when i worked on my own i used to sing! had sad is that, an MP3 player soon kills the bordom

i find working on my own great ,dont need any music or radio, just make plans and sort problems out in your head and enjoy the day ;D ;D
Agreed. But I always like to start with a bigger house (say £20) as it gets the ball rolling and incentivates me to push on. Dunno why ...

I got a little pocket radio with external speaker and I listen to Talksport all day. I love it. I'd be lost without it. I tried earphones but they kept falling out and getting in the way and you have to keep taking them out when a customer speaks to you.

This happened to me on Friday, finished the front, walkin down side of bungalow and custy said "can you do insides today" scared poo out of me, she thought it was hillarious and i could hear her giggling to herself while i was cleaning, then as i left she said "see you in four weeks and sorry for scaring the c**p out you"

I like to just crack on , get my work done then rush home to go on here ;D
-
Normally just talk to myself and make plans, think up ways to spend my money and other hare brained schemes, but its nice to stick the iPod on every now and again. Nothing like working to AC/DC ;D The headphone jack went on my ipod though, so I'm borrowing my flatmates today, hes got Ross Noble's stand up shows on so that should keep me entertained....! :)

Find that getting out the door is the hardest part once I have done a couple of jobs then I feel ok and then the bordom sets in about 3 when I start getting tired.
Cheers
Dave.

I think working on your own, day-after-day, can make you a bit strange. All the window cleaners I know are strange; most of 'em anyway.
I mean take Squeaky for example...

Most of my customers yap away to me, and I am a bit of a bleather as well but still keep working, so dont think it slows me any. Non the less I like listening to the radio between customers in the car, so that keeps me ocupied.
I had a church the other week witch takes four hours to do, and to be honest I find the alone time relaxing, almost theraptic. It lets you dream away and and sort things out in your head while your working.
I think I am suited for that kind of work, but wouldnt say I am alone, as you have to deal with your customers. I would say I meet all walks of live everyday and its one of the most iteresting jobs you could do. Repedative yes, but no stress, no hassell most of the time and you choose who you work for, sounds pretty good to me.
My advice, learn to stop thinking out loud, and enjoy the freedom you have.

that bored last week i even joined facebook!

Wor Lass works with me three-or-four days a week, but we don't really work together; more like travel to jobs together. We usually work well as a team, unless I change something; she really doesn't like 'change'.
But I did find the 'being by yourself' thing difficult when I first started window cleaning. I came from a military background where I had 17 years of living, socialising, and working in an environment with people that could be glamorously termed as'a band of brothers' (but not in the Yank TV sense; more like the Nelson bloke comment; I'm not gay (honest)); and to go from that to a solitary window cleaner wasn't easy; I still miss the banter, the camraderie, and the humour.
But at least I'm not getting limbs bombed off me in Afganistan.
I guess this forum is the closest thing we get to a bit of banter, camraderie, and humour; usually; with the exception of Squeaky's and Mr Gold's posts.

Can't recommend an MP3 player enough. I download stuff from Radio 4 cos I'm an old fart.
But you can't get downloads about all sorts of thing for free. Science programs, debates, new programs, comedies. When I get to be really old and daft I might start listening to the Archers, when that happens I have instructed the wife to shoot me and find someone new.
