Because of how dirty some windows are on the first clean does anyone think that cleaning them trad first and giving all the frames etc a good wipe down is a good idea? ???
-
i find it best on first cleans to do all the frames first wfp then go back to beginng and just clean the glass after all dirt has run out of vents etc, i think if you cleaned them trad you would still have problems because no matter how much you wipe you dont get in all the crevices in the frames that hold dirt where as running water flushes these out and it is this trapped dirt that causes problems for first cleans.

Start as you mean to go on
Ie, start off with wfp and stick with wfp
If a custie takes a dislike to it, theyll say " you can go up a ladder and do them the old way anyway " and youll be greived you ever did them trad
Its not hard to get windows good on first clean with wfp, yes a little tricky but practise ;)
-
Unless its a builders clean, avoid trad (ladders at least) all together would be my advice. Don't let the custie think that it's an option,.. it'll make things easier in the long run.

Ive had loads of new customers lately that have been really dubious of wfp but not one has compained!!
-
I've combined wfp with a dip of washing up liquid for very dirty cleans (upstairs)
and down I've used a hand brush and washed with a spray washing up liquid solution!
It works a treat, for getting rid of grease/black dirty grease... and a thorough rinse of course!
Now there will be a large debate on the subject, if this is read... and I will be told to crawl back under the stone... ::)
My point is that a carpenter doesn't just take a saw to work... he takes a huge bag of tools! ;)
Oh, and residue, my Ar........tichoke :P

just spend 2-3 times the amount of time on the first clean to get it spot on, dont worry if your not in the money, get it right and make a good impression. from then on its a once over.

I occasionally did this - but it means that you're doing everything twice.
If you're worried about the results of a first clean, why not use the ladders to have a quick 'close-up' look after you've done them WFP.
That way you could satisfy yourself as to the thoroughness of the clean and rectify any 'problem area' (by hand or by pole), if necessary.

WFP all the way.
Give frame a jolly good going over first + top of window.
Move onto next and only return to the window when frame stops dripping.
Clean as normal with a little extra rinse to finish off.
-
Just use WFP on a high flow give the top frame extra attention and rinse, rinse and rinse again

I like first cleans on really dirty windows , if i can i'll do one then show custy difference always looks good, just watch them vents and ensure a good rinse.
