My pro-5 is nackered!
Went to go collecting last night, didnt even get to chap the door and noticed the windows were a disaster! need to back and fix them all. Lost all of today trying to fix the problem (trying to break into the polishing resin filter)
Then gonna loos a whole day trying to fix the windows that are covered in white water marks...lost a fortne.
PROLBLEM: the filter (sealed) has been leaking resin beads and throwing them out to the pole. So what resin was left sunk to the bottom of the chamber and as the filter lies flat along the bottom the void that was left in the chamber created a pocket along the top of the filter so water must have been able to pass thru it w/o going thru the resin. Filter is just over 1 year old and clearly this is a manufacturing fault as there is supposed to be a sponge inside to stop the resin from being pumped out....clearly this has failed.
The colour changing resin is still all blue so not really getting used that much so i refuse to have to pay 300 quid for a fault of theirs but its all they are offering. Because the filter is "so old" they will not replace it as they offer "no" warrenty on filters only if damaged when recieved or fault spotted immediately...how exactly can u fore-see an internal failure???
I will never buy any products/systems from Ionics after this, and recommend you don't either. 300 quid for a resin change and you could get about 6-8 changes from a 25k bag, just how greedy is this company? Im trying to get the filter opened and refill the void in it with standard resin and try find this dislodged sponge.
In failing that i will buy a DI beofre i give Ionic's a penny!
Got some large contracts coming up, was seriously thinking of getting a couple of new systems...glad i found this problem before making any plans for buying ;)

Some companies offer a "goodwill gesture" even if they believe they are legally in the clear. It goes a long way to getting more business.
Years ago I was in business running a Canon dealership for their office equipment and we had a custy who in our view had damaged their equipment through not following manufacturer's recommendations.
(I'm not suggesting you've done that RSW)
They were a good customer who had a lot of influence over who their departments placed business with. Canon and we (the dealership) replaced the equipment to the cost of £250 each (a £500 piece of kit) and explained we could not do it again if instructions weren't followed.
Our dealership got dozens of orders on the strength of that and with the likes of IBM and Olivetti sniffing around for business I am glad we didn't stand firm on what we thought was technically our "rights".

i get what your saying, but to have a sealed unit failmeans automatically that it is definately a manufacturers defect, i dont pay too much attention to the filters on a day to day basis anyway, just check the TDS at the start of the day but for them to offer no warrenty what so ever is just ludacris (spelling?) so you only have 1 week to check the unit is fine and fore see that t wonf muck up 1 year down the line. It is completely sealed with no way to open it so clearlyno interfierance has taken place so i stand by my statement that Ionics should remedy the problem.
As i stated the blue colour change resin is ALL still blue so has pleanty of life left in it should this fault not have happened. The filters are static and attatched to the frame with no way to open them at all so what is their problem with having a warrenty
Ionics BIG THUMBS DOWN in my opinion, wish you all the best with obtaining new customers and the absolute biggest amount of luck with keeping existing ones (you will need it)

RS,
That's got to be annoying. A few years ago people used to say that Ionics was the Rolls Royce of window cleaning equipment; and that could be true. But they're a large company and you won't get the same personal touch you may get if you deal with a smaller, but well established company.
I mean Alex Gardiner always seems to get positive feedback on this forum; and I'm betting his systems are a fraction of the cost of an Ionics one.
Personally, I reckon Ionics systems are for window cleaners with more credit than sense.

more like the Ford Ka of cleaning equipment. The amount of things ive had go wrong wit this is untrue.
As Jerremy Clarkson says FORD - Fix Or Repair Daily!

I have thermo pro-6, and the colour changing filters are not £300 lol
More like £60.
What filter is it that you need replacing? Do you mean the RO membrane, the membranes are about that expensive, but not the resin filters?
-
You could also stand next to the Ionics stand at the cleaning show and tell their potential customers about their customer service package they offer. ;D
I did it once to a carpet cleaning company a few years back ;D

Classic..

Just bypass Ionics blue DI filter with a normal DI vessel. It's cheaper to replace resin when it's exhausted. Just need to check TDS from time to time.
Ionics horizontal DI tubes are the biggest rip off going. Once Ionics have emptied your wallet for buying one of their Pro series van mount wfp systems they then rob you a second time with ongoing expensive replacement DI and carbon/sediment filters.
Think Ionics will have a harder time in this recession to rip new customers off with over expensive systems as their competition is overtaking them now with better value systems IMO.

Ive never had a problem with my system in 3 years, not had to mess about with anything on it at all. The colour change filter, where are you getting the price of £300.00 from? The last one i bought, which was 1.5 years or so ago, as i now use a static to fill my vans, it cost me £65-70.
-
With a bit of hose a DI vessel and a few connectors you can transform that pro 5 in minutes.

You either do not use much water or have super ro unit.
I would not pay for there resin vessal as it is very over priced for what it is, as above fit a di vessal or 2
-
1 ionic resin filter £65-70 you say i can fill my DI 3 times from a 25ltr bag for £70,if i had an ionic system i would never buy another cartridge i would just add a DI vessel before hosereel it`s far cheaper to run it that way.

Dont understand what you mean Ian? The last time i bought a colour change filter for the thermopure it cost around £70.00.

Yeah, thats why i fill from static now, filters for them cost way too much money. But my point was i thought the colour change filter is/was about £70.00 not £300.00.

I bought a blue change filter after xmas and it was £80.My tds reads 6ppm going into it and its nearly changed colour already(Was using one a month!!!).I have since fitted an 11ltr di prior to the colour change filter. They are sealed and there is no right or wrong way to fit one,so as you said,it is obviously faulty.

Anyone ever wondered why ionics changed their name from OTT direct, we had an original 650ltr system back in 1998 when they were the only WFP company about. Once they sold you the system they didn't want to know you. If there was anything wrong with your system they would not come to you back then, you had to travel to them.On one occasion when was a bit naive back then and our pump stopped working, phoned them up and they told us we needed a new one (£160 back in the day) we had no choice so we bought one off them. When we got a bit wiser and started to investigate other companies that sold the same parts but nothing to do with window cleaning realised that it was only the £16 switch that had failed, not the whole pump. We bought quite a few poles off them, reason being they didn't last 5 minutes, flimsy and cheap, using plastic when it should of been metal etc etc.
Tell me why would the originators of the Pure WFP systems suddenly change their name??
-
Because they thought all these complaints we are getting are ironic lol,i know said Rueben we`ll call ourselves IONIC lol. ;D ;D ;D ::)

your vessal you get from ionics is polishing resign ? if it is then they are expensive when you can get a sack of resin for less than £70, £60 + vat for dowex 25l sack have di di vessals and will save even more money on resin.
Ionics systems are good although very pricey, but the maintenace is OTT as there last company name was, fair play to them as they keep getting paid.
-
Why are they good?,they might look good but apart from that there no different to any other unless your talking hot.

Sorry I was talking about hot
-
sorry not been able to reply to my own topic...been busy fising something that ionics should have taken responsibility of, then going round all my work and having to appologise to every single customer and re-do their windows for free.
The £300 price tag i stated was what i was told over the phone when i called Ionics. It was £264 + Vat or somethign like that.

You need to contact Craig Mowlam direct, the muppets in the office are a waste of time. I had an issue with BWCA with the office staff, contacted Craig all sorted. Did have his contact but have lost it, maybe someone else may have it.

Did you not notice the beads on the window during the day? Surely they're visible as they wash down the glass?

Ionics are simply the best i had my system for five years NO PROBLEMS, i have not changed a filter for 18 months i use 5000ltrs per week, i took tds reading yesterday....0.01
I now building a static only because it cheaper so i wont really have commparisons for a year or 2 when i have to work out costs of replacement filters etc.
After reading original thread i would be highly dissapointed if ionics did not sort things out for free.

"Commission cheque on it's way for Kenny Jones!"
"Stop that cheque, we have a traitor in our midst!"

lol of course i didnt notice the beads on the glass, else i wouldnt have been in the possition im in right now ;~)
we are only talking about a small handfull that was lost during the course of one or two days. But that handful was enough to leave a small gap all along the top of the filter, and naturally the water must have taken the fastest flowing route missing the resin and thus making a mess of the windows

LOL stuff the pen if they let me of with £300 quid they been chasing me for months for poles i be happy ;D
-
I would have thought Ionics would fit a strainer before the pump anyway so it's either there or swimming round the tank?
-
there is a small spongue just before the exit hole that the hose lock fits to.
Yes im sure that it got out, there was a substantial gap in the chamber where resin used to be and when i took the filter off the system i put it in the sink in the house to drain beofre working on it as i didnt want it dripping all over the floors. Went to get it out the sink and there was a noticable amount in the sink. Im guessing the leakage took place over a couple of days but only really caused a problem towards the end.
