Title: Zap it and solutions red rx spotters - am I alone?
Post by: Phillip Mold on February 24, 2009, 08:30:06 am
Am I alone with a problem that re-occurs with both the above?

When I use them unless I rinse and extract very quickly I seem to be leaving a bright ring in the carpet, another call back to do now.

Any suggestions as to how I can remove the ring?

Phillip
You should say if its one spotter or the other that are causing the problems. I've had a circular ring apprear after using Zap it on 80-20 wool base carpet. Rinsed carpet and cleaned after applying Zap it. Circular ring mark was left in carpet after drying and remained there for about 3 days then disappeared. I was told this cann't happen.

Red RX is a product that is designed to remove dye stains, so it will possibly removem the dye from carpets.
Make sure in future you pre- test carpet first in an area out of the way.

Hi Phillip,

The answer lies in the "dwell time". I would be rinsing in 5-10 minutes with cold water and checking the result. If it hasn't removed, try longer durations.

Would recommend a producy called CBT as being a whole lot safer and having longer dwell times to work with. (Celloulistic Browning & Tannin Remover)

I didnt realise Solutions made a red rx spotter but Prochems Red rx is very foamy and sometimes even if you rinse there is still a discolouration in the treated area caused by the excess foam.

After extraction I treat the area with a little defoamer then rinse off.

Could it have bleached the area or maybe its not rinsed enough and theres still trace in the carpet.

Stainpro from Prochem used to do this when I used it 8 odd years ago.

Mark I have used a lot of Stainpro and have never had a problem but i always use fibre and fabric rinse to neutralise it.
