Well having started about 8 weeks ago, I thought I would update the progress, and advise how the information on this board has helped. Firstly leaflets, had about 5,000 printed got about 4 custys from them.....very poor result, but this was the general opinion of people on here, so I decided to door knock a few people. Had never done it before and felt strange, but once I had secured a couple of customers it gave me the confidence to go knocking on some more. The result was confusing!!. As soon as I knocked, they near enough welcomed me with open arms!!!!. "Your a window cleaner??, Excellent !!!, when can you start??, and my neighbour wants one!!" etc..................but I had already put leaflets through their doors !!! ???
General opinion was, that you could be anyone putting a leaflet through a door, but when they see a face and a short chat they feel at ease and you get the work.
Picked up about 12 in one day alone.
Now have nearly 40 customers in about 8 weeks, Ok I know its not great, but its a start, and would ideally love to get more to get it off the ground. Best thing is, people are commenting on what a good job and can really tell the windows have been cleaned.........................and even better I am THOROUGHLY enjoying it.
Gradually gettiing faster, but making sure a good job is done.
Thanks for all the info..............here's to the next 40 or maybe 400 customers...lol
cheers

door knocking is the best way to get new work but i hate it .
so have had a company going out for me in the areas where i already work and villages close by and in two weeks they have found me 12 hundred pounds worth of new work.
Good prices and nothing less than a tenner
so its out there

excellent Alan, Is that just an independant canvassing company?? or one of the companies used on here??
thanks

well done fieldsy, keep it up. the thing i like best about being a window cleaner and running my business is that you really do get out what you put in.
if you think its good now waite untill the middle of the summer!

thanks lee, the couple of days of sun we had, made me appreciate it even more...lol, although I do realise there will be bad/cold times.. ;). I just can't express how much I am enjoying it. I'd just like maybe to pick up a couple of rounds just to get a good base and I'm sure that this would be for me.
Having a very low stress factor is brilliant !! :) ;)

I actually like door knocking... I find it addictive. Once you get 1 customer you just want to carry on and get more.
I drove past a house yesterday that was being renovated this time last year... On the spur of the moment I stopped and knocked offering my services and they are now a new customer, £30 every 8 weeks :)

People pay for the tradesman; not the service! Fact!

That's 1 of the reasons to collect, IMHO it's best to keep contact, bit of a chat to keep yourself human
