as the topic says, what are you reasons for stopping cleaning people windows ?
-
Usually because they have asked us to stop, we have not got enough yet to drop people but we are working on it.... ;)
-
noi being payed
-
I took advice from here when I started about dropping customers and in the 1st 18months I was a little too zealous on certain occassions and dropped around 10 for things that now I would certainly leave until the next day before making a judgement.
But in the main:
Being mucked around for varying reasons.
Payment issues.
Access issues.
.........and in combination with, how much I like the job/person/location/money ;D
Cheers
Dave.
-
Too many 'not this time.'
Having to keep chasing up payment.
Was underpriced to begin with and they weren't happy with a previous price increase.
I simply didn't like the job or the customer.
-
I have just gone w.f.p now and I clean a 1st floor flat, but the water drips down onto the groundfloor windows and they have complained so I have had to drop them as I no longer use ladders and they were bad payers too. ::)
-
In town Chip shops, which you can only do when there open and people are in their at tables eating.
Two weekly fish & chip shops, too much air borne grease on the windows, which really messes up applicator and rubber. Told him he needed weekly he said he cant afford it. Yeah right chips are £1.50 a portion on their own.
People who dont clean up tons of dog poo in back garden.
Peeps who mess me about regarding payment.
My round is now nearly completely rid of all these. Probably 40 jobs in total dropped.
-
reason why I stopped cleaning one house is I was in a nite club one night well sozzeled ended up taking a lass back to my place....after we,d finished been rude to each other she got a taxi back home in the morning and I thought that was that...anyway a week later was cleaning a customers house and angry voice shouted up "oi you I thought you was supposed to ring me up you big fat lousey *******
Unknown to me it was my customers eldest daughter who had moved back home after a split from her fella ;) ;)
-
i drop people for being too tight had a job 4 quid 2 windows went from monthly, bi then wanted every 3 months, wanted me to clean a roof quite small 2min job, ill do it for 5 quid, the bloke nearly had a heart attack, he went into shock when i told him.
-
i have a yearly or 18 month cull of custys ;)
usual reasons bad payers, rude ones or just plain annoying ::)
-
my reasons would be, very bad payers, ignorant customer, more hassle than the jobs worth, or if I'm trying to compact the round i do this every couple of years.
-
Nice 1 Elite mike, Cull, annoying mmmmmmm getting an idea here..... ;D
-
I had a guy who only ever had me do his windows as and when, would here nothing from him for months then he phones and tells me he has visitors coming on the friday and wants the windows done on the thursday, but thinks its ok calling me on the wednesday afternoon to tell me. he must think I am sitting at home waiting for him to call.
-
if they have loads of dog crap in garden and if they say can you do them every 2 months
-
I never drop any customers...i just sell them onto other cleaners.
-
Bad payers.
People who don't clean up their gardens after the dog.
The above would all be dropped but for those obnoxious or awkward customers I levy what I call a PITA supplement, as in they are a Pain In The A**e. :)
That way if they continue to use my service it's for top dollar, or they drop me, cos I'm too dear, tho often they have had trouble keeping a windy cos they are obnoxious/awkward.

SAME ERE
-
Bad payers
Poor access
Dogs mess
Customer only wants it done at certain times.
-
Bad payers & irregular cleaning frequency from customers that get dumped.

I like it.
I clean 3 houses of 3 of ex-girlfriends and they are all fine with me cleaning their windows becuse their previous window cleaners were terrible. Occasionally, they phone me or I phone them and we go out of a Friday or Saturday night and get merry with drink and back to theirs or mine to look at the bedroom ceiling, etc. The good thing is none of them have any hang ups about the situation afterwards as we just treat it very casually. I'm onto a good thing with the extra perks of window cleaning. In the past I would never dream of mixing business with pleasure but I'm single now so what the hell, life's too short.
-
My main reason lately for dropping customers is non paying
In the past its been for messers awkward windows/customers and early on for undercharging which even now i still manage to do every so often

I won't clean for any Indian or pakastani customers over the age of 50. Over the last 7 years I have either been sacked by or got sick of and dumped dozens of them. As a group they are a window cleaners worst nightmare ie: Always wanting extras done for free, arguing over payment/price, rubbing their fingers over the frames really hard while your standing there and then showing you whats left on their finger!!!
However I have plenty of younger generation (20 to 40) year old Asian customers that are perfectly good customers some of whom are good friends of mine. This I believe is because they have been brought up in the UK and know what behaviour is acceptable from going to school over here etc.
I must emphasise that I am anti racism and this is just an observation about older asian customers. I think it's a culture thing not a race thing.
-
Just got an invite to go to a British National Party lol. ;D
-
I had three asian customers and now have one.
The first to go was a bad payer. (Oh and she called me 24 hrs after I'd cleaned to say there was a massive load of bird's poo on a window that had landed after I'd cleaned and she wanted me to go out and clean it off.)
The second had restricted access to the rear of her property and it meant meeting her at 4pm after the school run (hers). The second time she cancelled because she had to get young Gupta from after school piano lessons and so couldn't make it was the last time I called ....
The third was very pleasant, gave me a key to the side gate but was a bad payer so I stopped calling. As I clean her next door neighbour she saw me "miss her out" about 3 months later and asked why. I explained politely and took her back on on a standing order basis. She is still a good custy.
So not hugely different to all nationalities that I clean for - but I agree it is a culture thing.
Oh and the one that got away - Iranian lady I think - came up to me in the street and said in broken English "You do my windows!" (More of a demand than a request.)
I said I'd give her a quote shortly and she said "No! No need - you do them for five pounds!" Not liking her attitude I simply said no thank you and left her to it. Next month she said much the same but raised her offer to £10. I said no thanks.
A third time:- "OK you quote!" Me:- "Madam I wouldn't do your windows for £100!"
Finally, she comes up and says "You the normal window cleaner?!"
Me:- "Fairly normal but I have my limits madam..."
Her:- "I don't want you I want the other one!"
Me:- "Nope, you've lost me there ..."
Her:- (literally stamping her foot!)" No, there is another window cleaner I don't want you! You're the normal one!"
Me:- "Well I never thought being called normal by someone would make me feel they were so rude madam! - good day and good-bye."
I think Starion who lurks about on this forum does her house for about a tenner more than I charge her adjoining neighbour - but horses for courses eh?

This comment just about says it for me too! 8)

i had a customer who was a bit short with me, but I didn't take it personally and carried on with their windows.
One time I cleaned them and they called me back saying I had missed a window.
The window was clearly wet from being cleaned but had a large fresh bird poo in the middle that was actually running with the water left on the window from where I had cleaned it. I said 'You can see that this has happened since I did them but I 'll it clean as I'm here' They said nothing, not thank you or anything, so I said "No really you're welcome!" so next clean I upped their price by 35%, and they called after to cancel. When called I said 'Oh good thank you' just so they got the point

how can you join the tories or labour but not the bnp open up your eyes you are
living in a fachist party state or maybe commy state either way new labour
are as oppresive as the chinese not that i have any intrest in polatics
-
Look, I think somebody is telling porkies about qualifications here and trying to take the intelectual high ground, let's get back to the subject.
Bad payers and moaners are the main reason I dump custies. I've always found that when I open a new custy base in a new area, I lose the bad payers and the "not this timers" in the first three months. Everything after that stays the course, if you know what I mean.
-
You can guarantee that you will lose a third to half of customers you have canvassed for in the first few months, either because you boot them or because they just want a spring clean on their windows.
I think people who join parties like the BNP do so because they feel the need to focus their anger over their inadequaces on others.
If your life is crap it must be someone else's fault, I think is their general outlook.
-
made an inappropiate racist comment

See, the above poster has an IQ at least as high as room temperature - in fahrenheit, too! ;D

Sorry? What is all this about? Is it aimed at anyone in particular or is it simply a rant?
-
its aimed at you why whenever a mention of the bnp comes in anywhere
do you just denounce them as neandertholes
and say they have alow iq you just have to have a go and put them down why

I have never likened the BNP to Neanderthals. Indeed latest scholastic opinion seems to be that Neanderthals were quite advanced but for me the jury's out on that one.
Actually I am about the forth person on this thread to respond to mention of the BNP. The first person said the IQ was 7 and I raised it tenfold to 70, so please aim your comments where they belong.
You are all over the shop with your comments - first you liken "new labour" to fascism and then communism which is in my view ridiculous. Both are at opposite ends of the political spectrum! And if you think we are restricted as to freedom of speech - under any Labour or Tory government within my lifetime - then try Communist China, Russia or Eastern Europe of the same timeline. Or Nazi Germany, Franco's Spain, Iran or one of the African dictatorships.
Then you come up with your rant about marching to "free tibet", human "rites" (sic) demonstrating for and yet denying freedom of speech, voting, reading Jewish literature and burning it.
I have no problem with freedom of speech or reading what you wish as long as it is not used to incite violence or crime or murder; I just wish you'd come up with a cogent reason as to why I should take the BNP seriously.
Personally I rate the BNP somewhere along with Hitler, Mussolini and Franco but with the flavour of Mosley. I would rather be under any Western European or North American Government with politics somewhere between centre left and centre right than anything else on offer from mankind on this planet.
I'm all for striving to improve mankind's lot - but the BNP is not the way to go IME.

ok,
1. Loads of missed bookings
2. Having to go back allot for payment
3. Non-payers
4. Unsafe
a. steap soft ground
b. clutter in or around home
5. Attitude towards you
6. price dispute - e.g. they get new window with more pains but dont want to pay more
7. Holding you up, whether it be chatting or just getting in your way allot
8. Pourly maintained windows
-- dropped a customer because when I cleaned the outside the water ran down the inside, and flakes of paint causing allot of streaks. I hate that, they can get on everything.
