Title: Will washing with hot water save me money?
Post by: sparklebright on February 20, 2009, 08:11:42 pm
Thinking of taking the plunge with the L5 heater.

What do you say in summary about it?
Will it help?
Will it save me money?
What are the disadvantages?
RWH why did you ditch yours?

I've been using gas heater for 8 months now,.. €1.20 - €1.50 a day is what I spend on gas,.. even before Xmas with the big rush of work the bottle lasted just under 3 weeks.

It won't save you money,.. but it might help you work faster and be able to do 1 or 2 extra jobs at the end of the day, increasing your profit that way.

It depends on your round really,.. there are big advantages on irregular work and first cleans, but on fortnightly work you'll not see a huge difference in speed of cleaning.

Gas
Maybe i don't use enough for you NWH,I also only use 800ml water per a minute which is causing problems with the heater.I can't get the heater flow rate down so suit my flow rate use.
I don't have the water very hot mind. When i took the temp it was only 25 at the brush. But it makes a difference for me . I might get hotter once i am more comfortable with it.
Also how much do you lot pay for gas , As this makes a difference !

With hot water the job is:
1 quicker
2 easier to actually clean the window
3 far more comfortable to work with in cold conditions
4 easier to reel in
All in all it is better and is the only thing i think Ionic have marketed perfectly.

I think the Ionics Thermo system is around £12,00 - £14,000 and their similar sized cold system is around £4,000 cheaper. There are other thermo systems around but i haven't got a clue on the price. I also believe there is a company that can retro fit a diesel heater to your own cold system for a couple of grand.
It would be nice to have one, if only to be able to work in very cold weather.
