Title: New WCW Backpack FINALLY in!!
Post by: chuggers on February 20, 2009, 09:30:37 am
Ordered my new WCW Backpack today off their website last night, i'm like a kid on christmas eve!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Im hoping this piece of kit is gonna save me a lot of hose dragging and snagging, and Ive been told i should be able to do about three houses off one fill. Anyone got any experience of using these??

You will be lucky to do three window's if they havnt been cleaned before, But seriously back packs are great but the water in them doesnt last long.

I did have a gander on ebay, they were not the same spec with the 85psi pump. not the ones i could find anyway! i asked the lads about the price increase, apparantly its to do with the pound going down against the euro, makes sense i guess but still a pain in the ****!

but then again, compared to the 180+vat the shurflo would set me back, its still a no brainer!

The company that makes these backpacks is the same company that makes those dodgy trollies that Omnipole and the guy from Ebay sell ive got one already the backpack costs £40 and the trolley costs £90  if you buy them from China but i dont no what the delivery charges would be like coming from China.

Cheers for the info mate, i bet the delivery costs are ridiculous for one backpack, and it seems like a lot of hassle! The price im still happy with, so c'mon guys I just wanted to know ARE THEY ANY GOOD!??? :P

It's the exchange rate that explains this.

The Chinese want paying in dollars so anything imported from there will be a lot more expensive now.

Too late to worry about it now, you should have asked that question BEFORE you bought it ::)

I have one after running a shurflo backpack for 1 1/2 years. Have had the WCW number for 6 months and find it better, I CAN do 3 2 bed semis or 2 3 bed semis on one fill. Capacity is not as large as shurflo but it has a more powerful pump, 1 speed so no messing with settings. I've had it apart and its a much simpler set up than the shurflo, with much easier access to the parts. Kept my battery from the shurflo so have a back up. The shurflo pump gave up the ghost by the way and I was'nt paying £70 for a new pump when I could have a new pack for the same price!!!!

I have two of them. One's filling on a float switch whilst the other is being used for window cleaning so no time wasted waiting to fill up or transfer water from van tank to backpack. Very impressive. Much more practical with a sensible hand held handle built into backpack.

would these backpacks be any good for conservatory cleaning with ecowash?

just thinking of how long 15 ltrs would last on a job?

I have also have a 50 ltr trolley but just wanted to keep it for window cleaning with pure.

expensive way to do it, as you can get a hand pump sprayer a lot cheaper no battery to mess about with. I am sure you can get a hand pump sprayer somewhere with 15l/18l capacity as the guys I saw a few years back hand them for weedkilling and they was hand pumping them..

My results doing these wfp have always been good so cant see why yours would not be.

i have both the wcw back pack and the shurflo.....
the wcw is best by far.... easier to carry , lighter, and less complicated.

I'm thinking of getting the wcw backpack on these recomendations I've read. My only concern is the single speed and 15 ltr capacity. It would only get used for awkward jobs where my van mounts just too time consuming. Could a flow controlling tap be used to conserve water use or would this put a strain on / damage the pump ?

i have the hudson b/p, which is pretty much the same thing, and i have a hip flow controller fitted and it works fine as the pump has a pressure switch and cuts out when turned off.
i have had the hudson for nearly a year now, and like yourself, only use it on awkward access jobs, and have had no problems with it at all.

I fitted a bypass to one last week,.. it works a treat!

Thanks

My shurflo back-pack it ideal, I never use any other setting other than the first one, pressure is fine.
I should point out that I don't use any pole longer than 25ft!

Yes the on/off switch is in an awkward place, but it's doable!

I think they get a bad press because of the battery!
I just changed the charger, so it didn't fry the thing and have had no problems at all!
(at least 18 months now, that works out at £10 a month so far... Not bad, well worth it!) 8)

could anyone please take the time to list what they use, ie backpack with what fittings hose and poles? trying to cost up the unit to being able to clean windows.
It does look like a sensible starter to enter the world of wfp. Thanks.

I agree with that just a little slower would be nice!
as I said, I have had only to use setting one!
