My right shoulder is killing, with pushing that pole up and down, and sideways every day,
someone said to me " its as though you are going to the gymm
every day, from morning until night".... but, only doing one exercise.... something has got to give, using the same repetitive movements day in , day out,
been told to do stretches before and after work, shoulder rolls,
and go for a deep tissue massage.... was even told a visit to a "chiropactor" would be helpful.
am i alone in dropping to bits ?....starting swapping hands today to give my right arm/shoulder a rest.
-
I don't use this technique often but before i went wfp, i'm sure people on here were saying that the safest way to use the pole was to step forwards and backwards. Without moving arms up and down.
-
Hi,
Yes i have tried it, but i think its the whole thing... including downstairs windows. :'(
-
go for the deep tissue massage i have one every fortnight and its worked wonders for me , try and find someone who can reccomend a practioner so you know there good regards alan
-
How old are you Gazza? What weight/type/length of pole do you use? How many hours a day? Kind of work?
Then Dr. Malc can help! ;D
-
You know you're getting old when you go to bed feeling fine and then wake up in the morning with a knee/shoulder/elbow/kneck/back* injury!
How does that happen?

same here! shoulder & elbow, makes me wonder when it comes to employing somebody as they could claim against you for repetetive strain injury. I worked in a shoe factory for 17 years and my joints are shot to pieces from it and only just turned 40, ive got another 25 years to work yet and wonder if i will be able to manage it.

I'm really lucky because my Mrs is brilliant at it, they are taught it very early in the Indonesian back and beyond, they have techniques you wouldn't dream of, a skilled practitioner can even terminate a pregnancy, although my Mrs Say's she would never do it.

you aint wrong stan, wfp has made wcs soft ;D
-
Stan, i was doing trad the other day.... and it was murder trying to swivel a squeegie over the glass.... my arm.... my elbow (must have come back stan, tennis elbow :'( )... and my shoulder... had sharp little muscle pains..... im off for a deep massage.cheers prestigeclean ...
Malc, im 6ft slim.. n trim... always kept fit, and im 40 odd lol
i mainly use the 21ft extel... for both....
but today i went back to the super light fishing pole for a while.
i work 7 hours a day.

There's nothing soft about using an easier, safer, and qucker method to clean windows! You're not 'hard' 'cos you routinely use a ladder.
Most of the guys here started off using ladders, some of them when I was still in nappies!
-
i meant he should swop back,i dont get any pains, apart from the hernia im suffering with ;D ;D
same as you stan. no hernia though, up and down ladders all day no aches or pains whatso ever

why do people think that if you use your shoulders alot they will wear out afterall arent your shoulder joints made of the same stuff as ankle joints and no docter tells you you shouldnt walk to far or else your ankles will get repetitive strain injury.
the pain is either caused by lifting at an unatural angle or you need to build up certain muscles i would strongly recomend looking at www.fitness4x4.com on the about us page there is a video of just how good your shoulder muscles can become with the right training.
-
So did i ...of course ,, i could not afford wfp.... so i learnt how to trad.... i am really glad i did.... it will always be used in my opinion, at some point....
i mean, try cleaning the inside of a car show room ,wfp way....
but i love wfp too.... it just wears my shoulder away. ;)

thanks for that. i have always kept fit with football and going to the gym, my arms and shoulders are strong.... i really suspect its muscular pain,... same muscle contracting all day , will eventually strain i think.

your shoulders may be strong but may not be trained for endurance as an example there are many bodybuilders who undoubtably have strong legs yet only a few of them would be able to run a marathon, the same is true for the upper body and if you can find the balance between both strentgh and endurance then that is when you can manage the tasks that dragon achieves in his video and works brilliantly in our job.

Sure its not your age gaz?
;D
-
Gaz, try resting it over the weekend by taking enough Ibuferen on a friday and continue till monday morning to help relax it over the weekend. Not all week just at w/ends. Honeygar will help take the inflamation out.
Oh and accupunture helps.
-
OK Gazza I'm nearly ten years older than you - 6ft and prolly a stone overweight at 13st 10lb.
When I was on ladders it was my knees that hurt and my squeegee wrist.
I lost a couple of stones and that certainly helped.
When I went Wfp I had the infamous unger ali pole with the twist lock sections and my hands and wrists really started to hurt. I went fishing pole two years ago and I have no more probs.
So for me a lighter pole with pushfit sections worked.
Alternate between different poles to give certain muscles a break.
My fee is one English pint of bitter! ;D

hi gaz
i have allways taken cod liver oil capsules,
and eat plenty of sardines ,mackrel salmon
at least 3 or four times a week <helps if you like fish> ;D
also a bit of light weight training
perhaps you need to go back to your zensoflex ;)
-
Good advice thanks lads,
i have just started with the cod liver oil tablets,... i may need a lighter pole too... trying to answer everone.. i cant lol sorry...
will take these comments , and try them out,,, ;)
-
gaz take some Viagra it will take your mind off your pain for a while ;D
-
[ they have techniques you wouldn't dream of,
I BET I COULD
-
Gaz you are not alone, my shoulders kill and i use a slx, I went to my mums today funny enough and told her they where killing she told me to use deep heat, good for a one off but this is continuas
Chris
-
R W C i know how you feel... personally i thought a few more would be feeling this too.
-
TBH it did worry me as this is now my trade and i thought if this is happening now at 30 how am i going to be when im old like stan ;D
-
if you are only 30... then we need to ask anyone if there is a certain exercise we should be doing....
as its obviously muscle pains with repetition.
did someone once post something in the way of doing certain exercises before and after wfp
-
Before starting wc i went to the gym 5 days a week for 2 years, now it aches beyond compare and this is going to a max 3 storey, im gredding using a 60 foot pole ;)
-
dreading.... even ;)
-
your not the only one who has these pains i get them a lot but i dont moan about it, there is no point just got to get on with it, but some times it does get to me find a old type chemist ask for some winter green its old school but better than deep heat etc, ive got foot straps elbow straps knee brace, this is not through window cleaning all through old bike crashes many years ago the only bone i aint broke is my neck, in 96 i shattered to vertebrates and doing wfp my back plays up the most
-
wow .. not bad for someone who dont moan about it..... ;)
only kidding.... i must say though with all that has happened to you , i feel bad for going on about my shoulder now...
fair play to you for sticking it all out.
take my hat off. ;)

well life has to go on, i got a family to fend for so i got no time for moaning just grit my teeth i also go high strength pain killer on repeat prescription had them since 96, every so often when it gets bad i have to to a day or two off to relax this happens every two or three weeks depending on how bad i feel. i use to have co-dydramol 30/500 but they dont work anymore now im on zydol50mg

I use a 17 ft Xtel for the tops and consider it heavy and unwieldy for many downstairs jobs (especially when reaching out).
Perhaps you're putting undue strain/stress on your joints/muscles/ligaments.
I have a (cut down) 2 x 2' 6" aluminium pole with a superlight brush on the eend for downstair windows.
Maybe you should try something like that.
But I've picked up a strange pain today - I can't wind the hose reel without a 'stabbing' pain in the front of my shoulder!

The trouble is WFP is so over-hyped on this forum that you would be forgiven for thinking it's child's play.
I use slx, carbon facelift + superlite brushes.
Personaly, I find trad a lot easier on the body. I've only ever had physical problems from wfp & they either take a lot of healing or are continuous. Neck, shoulder & elbows are the main areas of complaint. I'm 36, no weakling & fit too.
Many of my jobs I use wfp because it's safer & not always quicker or easier!!

-
ive been poling for 6 years now,i didnt get any problems for 5 years doing a 4 hours poling a day using a mix of 7kg 35ft pole and the 12kg 60 ft .
i started to get shoulder pain a year ago just as i eased the off the heavy weights at the gym, maybe its gym / bench press related ?
-
I thought the saying was: NO PAIN - NO GAIN
;D ;D
-
my arms never ache from using a water fed pole, but i do go to the gym regurally.
when i brush stand to a boxing stance a then you from right hand to support the pole then my leaft at the base pushing down till i get a correct weight balance, then move the pole up and down. if neccesary i will walk backward and forwards bend my knees etc so i dont use my arms too much.

I think there's a war inside my body sometimes, aches and pains seem to come and go for no reason!
Neck, shoulders, knee's... it's all work related, but hey... at least I know I'm alive!..................................... Just! ;D ;D ;D

sounds like someones damaged their rotator cuff.(shoulder joint to those who dont know) it wouldnt be muscular pain after a couple of weeks ur muscles would adapt to the extra stress placed on them. id sugest making an appointment with a good physio.might possibly need surgery. had a simular problem through heavy weight training 2 years ago not good. very painfull very sore.

just as a matter of interest, when was the last time you bought a new mattress and pillows to sleep on? i'm 54 this year, been w/c 20+ years, last 3 yrs wfp. Went through a faze of waking up to aching and stiff shoulders, neck etc; so i bought an sl-x and sl brush for daytimes wfp and new mattress and pillows for nighttimes. seems to have done the trick. 8) Syd

I have a 7ftx6ft waterbed, the best investment I ever made, it adds a bit to my electric bill with it having to be plugged in all the time, but well worth it. The matress weighs as much as 6 average men,
It's going to take a strong man to get to my hoard.

I couldnt afford the electric so bought a JJB Sports "Bean" like a big banna, blow it up and excercise on it - two could be tricky.

Take pain killers and see a doc BUT...Most docs and alterative specialists wont be able to do much until the spasm releases on wedneday, then go see a chiropractor or hopefully it will be feeling better. For a bit more info go to

don't think i got from wc just one of them things started to feel it last wednesday(just woke up with it) . had to take Friday off pain killers not touching it . need to work tomorrow plenty of deep heat. no disco dancing at the weekend :o

Add me to the list of crocks :) 45 and in pain :( Funnily enough though I never have any bother when I'm working. I run regularly and go to the gym all no problem. But when I wake up in the morning or stand for 5 minutes I have lots of pain. Even typing this, I have pains down the front of my thighs >:( I'm convinced wfp is to blame. I love the job and don't intend to stop. I am doing more trad downstairs to try to help, but I am getting serious worries about the length of my working life. My boy is 10 soon, so if I can hang on until he's 13 I should be alright ;D

reading threads like this makes me glad im not wfp ;D ;D
