Title: Just sacked an employee
Post by: Dean Taberner on February 16, 2009, 08:02:26 am
Hi guys,

With todays uncertain climate I cannot believe that ive had to sack somebody today for poor attendance,

Here in stoke there are alot of companies who have had to put their employee's onto a 3/4 day week.

We are very fortunate to have enough work to operate as we have been but this clown has been letting me down week in week out.

This morning was the final straw.

An advert will be in the local paper asap to try and find somebody who wants to work.

Im well cheesed of and frustrated with these people >:(.

Ive been working away all weekend obviously missing valentines day so ive arranged to take my wife and kids to the circus and then for a meal.

Time for a rethink!

Now you've sacked the worthless slave you should cut costs and get out there and work yourself.
Tell the wife and kids that work must come first as you have to set an example

Firm but fair! ;D

Topclean,

That sounds good,

Ill take a look into that tomorrow?

What info did you have to give the job centre? Ie insurance, safety policies?

Thanks,

Dean

Be careful using the Job Centre, many years ago I used them and they kept sending me ex-burglars and arsonists, they seemed to think they could send anybody as it was only window cleaning.
When I challenged them about this, and said haven't you any sense sending me ex-burglars, they told me that they didn't keep those kinds of records, and even if thy did they would not tell me.

I kindly informed them that I would not be using there services again, and I haven't.

Just my experience.

dean, you dont have to give any insurance documents or any other info bar hours and pay.

I also have used the job centre before and had no luck, but this time because of the current climate the phone hasnt stoped, honestly i have been spoilt for choice. ;D

why dont you try some  as a trainee for 6 months through the job centre..you dont have to pay them and job centre pay you 75 quid a week  for your trouble

You get 2 weeks trial, after that you have to take them on for about 32 hours a week for the £75.00 but it goes along way to paying there wage :)

The 2 week trial they work for you for nothing but still get there benefits, and you get to check them out, if you dont like it you say no, no obligation to take on...

Only catch is this scheme is only for long term unemployed, around 6 months plus, however the upside is they have to ask to be allowed on the scheme and hence are not forced but are voluntarily trying to get back to work, so they must be eager!! And during the 2 week trials they too can decide they dont want the job if they dont think it would be worth coming off benefits to do!

I checked it all out late last year and am going to try it myself , just building up enough work for someone now, - just go down to your local job centre and there is usually someone who runs this scheme and coordinates it, you tell them what you want they find ideal candidates, then set you up with a room to interview them in
I would try it definitely, the people who go through the job centre these days arent all the stereotypical lager lout, doleys you might think, many who have been laid off recently are office types, and hard working skilled people, so you may bag someone who is desperate to work or fancies a career change to ride out the recession, worth a gamble in my opinion, you dont need a rocket scientist, just someone who has a good work ethic and some loyalty

Good luck, let me know how you get on if you try it out

If you have the time go to the jobcentre and see for yourself who is in there signing on.  If they appear OK get their phone number and have a chat with them outside when they have finished.  Interogate them over a coffee, then give them a 3 month trial.
That way you can assess the person yourself, ask them what you really want of them , see if they are hungry for money and will they be really dedicated, and all it has cost is your time on a wet day.
Genuine people will be over the moon to have a chance to earn money.

Same here! How daft to waste your own valuable time standing around in the JC :o
If you use the JC for advertsing then use it right and then you can "interrogate " as you put it in a formal interview. That is the way to see if people really want a job or not.......if they turn up for the interview. In our experience, most candidates from JC doe not turn up for interviews >:(

Jobcentre and all recruitment ads have to be politically correct.  Therefore the replies come from all types - the majority you don't want.  This all wastes your time and is frustrating. Hence my earlier post - look for lookers, go fishing in a pond where you know there's fish. It has worked for us.

Exactly and thats what the JC staff advised me to do (of course they are not allowed to say that ;))
