Title: Hygiene with microfibre cleaning!
Post by: maggie67 on March 23, 2005, 11:08:55 am
Hi All!

Can anyway shine some light on this subject. Scientific or otherwise :-\

I do not understand how floors can be cleaned to a high standard (Removing all germs) with microfibre cloths & no cleaning products.

I have been informed by 'THE EXPERTS' that all you need is water and it certainly looks impressive but surely there must be all sorts of germs which can't be seen, still lingering. Great for show homes but kitchen/utility room floors?? :o

Hope I am not appearing extremely dim.

Look forward to receiving some  feedback here.

Regards

Maggie :)

Microfibre products produce great results in the right environment.

If you need to sanitise then you will need chemicals.

I'm not aware of any products that remove ALL germs.

Hope this helps.

Think I know of one! BLEACH. Oh what a cleaning agent ;D, not very good as a duster so to speak.

Thanks Guys ;)

Fortunatley I do know which chemicals sanitise but BLEACH we try to avoid!!

So those who have categorically told me that there is no need to use a product are not quite right then.

Hi Len,

Thanks. I will take a peak!

Firstly I love the beach..................... but more so on a sunny day!! ;)
Bleach is a pain I tend to use a disinfectant such as Zoflora (SMELLS LOVELY) and dilute as necessary. Don't forget most of my work is domestic ;D not commercial.

Hi Maggie!

I was considering the microfibre cloths too, but having not used one before I was a bit loath to buy some as the ones I have seen are a bit expensive. Do the different colours depict different densities or anything like that? I checked out the link above and the mitt sounds like a good idea. My mum has one that she can put over her broom and she mops the floor with it, apparently she bought it at Wilkinsons, and it wasn't expensive at all, so it looks like I amy have to pay them a visit!

hi there,

colour coding as per BIC's

red-- sanitary appliances and washroom floor
blue -- general areas ie offices
green-- kitchens
yellow-- washbasins and washroom surfaces.

they are the main ones,  so that answers the colouring for you.

you pay for what you get,

we are using microfibre floor pads, which are guaranteed  300 washes, 60 degrees, with detergent, but NO fabric conditioner, apparently the microfibre doesnt like fabric conditioner.

admittadly we paid a reasonable price, but should get  a year out of each pad,

microfibre cloths vary in size and price and again in quality, we have some great glass microfibre cloths, and they are great.

Bleach-  just dont take it on site,

it is a nightmare, reacts badly with any other chemical to give off chlorine gas, can play havoc with your insurance cover, and we have all seen the carpetted area just outside the cleaning store cupboard, lovely dark blue carpet, and those mysterious little spots.

regards

martin

Norwex Uk are an excellent supplier and extremely CHEAP! They supply mops & cloths.

Just received an excellent mop with a microfibre pad for damp mopping another for dry mopping and a large cloth which you can put over the top. Used it for the first time and it was brilliant!  8)

Sorry - thank you also Martin for your helpful advice too. The exact same reason why bleach is a NO NO for me! ;D

Maggie and all.....
The creators of microfibre cloths have never stated that you can clean with these cloths, and not using any chemicals you can have a germ free enviroment!
The way they are constructed are different from the usual cloth. From what i understand from looking into them before using them ourselves, the "microfibres" reach the parts that usual cloths do not.....the fibres are so small that they will get into any nook and crannie and take dirt, germs, bacteria etc. This is where other cloths fail.
However, just using water with these cloths, they do say that it will remove around 95% of germs and bacteria etc! However, if you were to add a chemical agent to the water, as you would normally do in cleaning, this would obviously enhance the cleaning up of the germs etc etc.
I gleamed a lot of the information from a report on the added benifits of using microfibre cloths for hospital and healthcare areas.....although i can't find where i have placed it for now.
The authorities gave it a thumbs up and are recommending that all Hospital and Healthcare cleaners put them to use and they come in all the clolours mentioned in above postings.
We use them all the time on our building sites cleaning the houses. Any plaster, mastic, dirt and dust etc that we find on toilets, kitchen surfaces, tiles etc come off as a rule just using these cloths.....as using abrasives and scrapers tend to cause scratches etc. We have 100% eliminated any problems from scratches just by changing to these cloths.
Also, we now only use just the one product for cleaning, a multipurpose toilet cleaner that we use in the water for cleaning, and also afterwards putting in the toilet bowl.....thus cutting down on the amount of cleaning chemicals etc.....
Cleaning mirrors and windows with a wet microfibre cloth and drying woth a dry one brings them up a treat as they do not leave smears....work a treat on stainless steel ovens, hobs even on American fridge freezers.
Baths, sinks, tiles all come up smear free when used correctly.
No smears on kitchen cabinets or on floors....there is no lint to come off these cloths because of their construction.

So what i am trying to say is that after the initial expence of buying these cloth.....we wouldn't ever go back to using general cloths again....infact there are no such cloths to be found in our vans.

Do you think i could make a career in selling these cloths??
