Title: How can I tell
Post by: Slash on February 05, 2009, 07:07:33 am
I have recently purchased a new 450 GPD RO unit as a back up as I have damaged my last 300 GPD RO unit during the really frosty spell, however I recieved it yesterday and altough it is supposed to be the upgrade to another 150 GPD both my new 450 and old 300 GPD unit look completly the same,I have paid obviously more for the new one but how can I tell that they have sent me the 450 instead of another 300 GPD unit, they have 3 membranes on top but on one unit they are supposed to be 100 each and the new one 150 each but can't tell the difference as both units have the logo but nothing showing membrane size etc.
I have always dealt with this company and their service is excellent but mistakes can be made, just want to be sure. ;)

The 450 gpd units from RO-Man do look exactly the same.  The only way of telling the difference is to unscrew a membrane housing, pull the membrane out and have a look at what's printed on the label.

I think the membranes do look the same and the housings, i think its all in the actual makeup of the membrane itself that determines its GPD & I think also the ones you now have are 150gpd x3 that makes it 450 gpd

Yes it will look identical from the outside.

As already stated the only difference is the capacity of each membrane.

There should be a sticker on the membranes saying the GPD rating on it.

Just pull one out and have a look. If it doesn't say the GPD rating post on here what it does say.

I have taken 2 membranes out from their casing but no numbers or anything, they are just blue and blank ???
I don't want to run water through it to find out if it's quicker incase I need to send it back to the suppliers.

Call your supplier and make them aware of this. It is very unusual for membranes to have no label on them.
If your supplier says that they are 150 GPD membranes tell them that you will run it and see if it is quite a bit quicker than your 300GPD.
Tell them that if it isn't that you would expect them to send you replacement membranes out.

Thanks guys,
I rang and was informed that the 150 membranes don't come with a sticker/label and only the lower ones do so thats fine :D
I did noticed that on the 150 membranes there were more coils, the tree trunk thingys but would probobly be fewer in a few months when water bonds them together.
