Buying a round IMO is the best way to start, you earn then from day one, then door knocking, then leaflets.

Not the best time to start a business at the moment but then again when is a good time

You can't beat door knocking and if not in leave a leaflet.

If door knocking is not for you put out loads of leaflets.
The results won't be brilliant to start with from leaflets so you would need to put out several thousand to get you started.
And leaflet all the time you are not working.
Some people keep the leaflets not many though so you will get the odd call a few months after you have delivered the leaflets.

Also re-leaflet areas you have previously done as you will get a better responce second or third time round

Also if you have another job don't pack it in.
Its not as easy as some people think to build a decent round and it takes time.

Yes :)

It's a numbers game.  The more you knock, the more jobs you will get.

You might have to knock on 50-100 doors to get one job.  Can you handle that?  If not you should stop to think if this is for you.

In 2 hours you can knock on 100-200 doors

You need to do that every day, including weekends when you should knock on at least double that amount.

Keep a record of all the ones that weren't in and go round them all again.

If you have the stamina and determination to do that, you will build a good round.

Best of luck

As w/w said invest in yourself and buy a small round and hit the ground running there aint no point in been self employed if you aint got no customers..trust me I know at least 40 window cleaners and this is how they started and how they have progressed.

Re Canvassing...Not at all areas will pay £10/12 for their windows cleaning...Northern England prices maybe £5/6 for a semi detached so without dropping on an area were there isn,t a cleaner you are unlikely to get a compact enough round to make money ....IE...you don,t want to be on and off yr van to clean one here and one there because at £5/6 per job  you will not make  money,SO BUY!

Got p enis envy little paul?  ;D

If you want rural work, put an ad in a parish magazine. I built my round on advertising in one of these. Plus leaflets.
