I live in a small village - got up this morning to find 9 inches of snow on the roofs of the car and van.
The lane we live in is impassible and the main road through the village hasn't been gritted.
So I'm going to play with the dogs in the snow - they love it ! ;D
Steve
-
Steve, I can probably get out but I dont think my clients that have booked for today will really want the work done so I am going to re-schedule. I think it will be better from tomorrow, hopefully.
Phil
-
It's still snowing here Phil, so I can't see it improving anytime soon.
The council classify our lane as a D road so they wouldn't grit it anyway, but the fact that they haven't gritted the main road makes you wonder what we pay them for.
My girlfriend works for Toyota which has 800 employees - they are expecting less than half that in to work today.
As you say, even if you can get to work would your clients want it done, plus the logistics of trying not to walk snow through the hall every time you go back and forwards to the van.

Hi Guys
We've only got about 2 inches by the sea, well the Thames Estuary !
I am going for it, have got furniture all day so I am going to take my porty and save on the in and out probs.
Wish me luck :-*
Cheers

Here in Warrington, north Cheshire we have got off very lightly. Not much on the ground - wont cause any problems I dont think. Maybe a bit worse towards Manchester and the Pennines.
-
We have got some snow here in stockport about an few inches on the ground but guess the main roads will have been gritted.
-
staying in

Nothing over here in Cornwall but that horrible freezing wind... "Scorchio!" I made sure both heaters were on in the garage last night..... don't fancy a knackered pump to go with my knackered motors ::) ::) ::)
-
Live in village outside Heathrow - made a effort to get to Essex this am - took me 35mins to get from junction 14 M25 to junction 16 M25 - phoned client who said I was made to even think about it !!!!!!!!!
Turned back - will spend day doing paper work and watch my collection of Old Grey Whistle test DVD,s ahh The Clash , The Pistols, those were the days.
I feel guilty about not getting the work today NOT !!!!

Weird to see Barcelona on the same temperature as Glasgow in December and January. Over the past couple of weeks London has been, on several occasions 6 or 7 degrees colder than up here.
The birds have be pairing up over the past couple of weeks, swans moving into their nesting areas, etc. Something has certainly changed, weatherwise.
Definately not worth going out in snow, especially if you're not used to it.
Work on your web site, or marketing.
-
Anyone remember the Meteors?
-
3 piece leather suite at 2.30.
My road is under 5 inches of snow but main routes are clear.
They have a policy of always keeping the bus routes clear here.
John
-
It's not me, it's the less experienced on the road, so our Worcestershire's 2" means I stay home.
Just got off the phone from my mate in Perth. The temperature had fallen to 30C (nightime) and his beer was getting warm :'( The air con is on and his wife is so exhausted from the heat that she's gone to bed :-\ The problems right now in Aussie land are not too dissimilar to ours, just different numbers on the thermometer.
Safe and happy cleaning :)
Ken

there is 15 ins of snow here and yes i remember the lurkers i really liked the singles Ain't Got A Clue and Freak Show wich has a great b side called Mass Media Believer. oh them was the days. del :) :) :) :)

Hi Guys
We have about 5 inches now and I got stuck trying to reverse onto my drive, so I started up the TM and blasted the snow away ;D
Think I might cancel tommorow if it carries on like this.
Cheers

Another fan of great music ! i have the pistols box set, loads of unreleased stuff, was very much into punk as a lad ! Exploited,gbh,4 skins, chron gen, angelic upstarts those were the days ;D
-
We've got away lightly here today, there was a couple of inches early on and there's been the odd flurry over the day, but nothing to worry about.
I've had five guys down in Gosforth all day doing a post build clean on a £1.3m renovation of an old private school, they'll probably be there all day tomorrow as well!
-
We went into Watford this morning at 6.To work at the Hospital.
No gritters, snow ploughs. Absolutly nothing.
And they wonder why the country comes to a standstill.
We got kicked off site at 11, site agent says it will be dangerous later and wants to go home. Big Woosie!
We left and found all the roads perfectly clear, if they had done the roads early enough in the morning it wouldnt have been a prob.
Southern Jessies!
Going down the pub now.

-
You don't need gloves your big and ard that's why you don't use a wand glide :o
Shaun
-
Bet he dont wear a top either like them geordies ;D
-
Had one job booked today but even though it was less than a mile away it just wasn't worth the risk.
Even if I'd got to the property I would still have had to carry the equipment through 6 inches of snow over a distance of about 100m. Not worth the risk.
-
Have the oppisite here, 45C for 2 weeks now :P
-
45 degrees!!!!!!!!
27-28 degrees in britain and i'm in a cold shower for half the day. or sit in maccies
how do you stand temps like that????
hope youve got a very expensive air con system,
derek
-
Got two jobs on now tmor that need doing not far away so hope it does not snow too much :(
-
1 job today ;D van nearly didn`t start,frozen solid
-
Its ok here this morn no snow overnight :)
Two good paying jobs today :)
-
Nice to be in the mild North...................today we are hotter ( well less cold ) than Madrid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Not for much longer all heading your way,
We'er not used to it in London so much better up where it belongs.
Still gobsmacked though that one of the worlds major city's ground to halt over a bit of snow, all very embarrassing.
-
dont belive it blue skies,,,,,, shining sun
no trains on network southeast/west................london buses ok tube almost ok.......
all this for a bit of snow........dunno what they would do if it was worse
my kids school is closed....why??.lazy teachers means that 1/2 of north kent cannot go to work as they need to care for children that should be at school
-

Yes luckily we have ducted air and refridgerated.and plenty of coldies in the fridge ;)
But the van does get extremely hot, after the t/m's been going for a couple of hours,i sweat like a pig,so only doing one job in the mornings and the rest of the day off.
Some of the trains here are'nt going either cause the tracks are all bent out of shape, from the heat. But i would'nt swap with you for quids.
-
what I hate is a hint of snow and the phone goes dead, Monday is usually my busy day for phone calls, I get about 6 calls and usually book half of them them into this week but no calls on Monday or yesterday.
So this week is going to be crap :-\
-
Seems to put them off and think the weather is bad so the cleaner wont be working ::)
When we had snow in the past it was never on the headlines of the news ???
-
Good point about the news on TV................
Right now, I'm looking out on blue skies and brilliant sunshine, no snow to be seen, unless I drive a couple of miles and look across the Clyde where the mountains are like Austria and covered in deep snow.
-
Ah, but it's only reported on the news when London gets snow.
The rest of us could be 2 feet under but if it's not London it doesn't count.
-
With all the crap thats been happening, credit crunch to name but a few, it amazed me that people were moanning about having a day off. It was the teacher's fault (as usual) and there was so much negativity going on.... What if the schools said "We're open, make the effort to get your kids to school!"
News headlines "3 children killed in tragic accident!"
Who's fault? The school and the teachers presumably....!
My kids loved yesterday as did my wife.... Who is a teacher by the way ;) ;) ;)
-
Agree Colin
Teachers get lumbered with the outcome of bad parenting
SEND THE PARENTS TO BOOT CAMP
-
Robert
Here here just watch the programme shamless and that will give you an idea :D
-
Everyone outside Manchester thinks that everyone from Manchester is like that a bit like Emmerdale or Corrie.
Looks like another heavy fall tomorrow, I have personally wrote this week off, worked today apart from one job that I had no chance of getting to.
Shaun
-
Thought that was the last of the snow :(
-
sorry to be a kill joy but i had monday and tuesday off due to the weather and i loved it!!! most of the year i work my nuts off so a little unexpected break was great, worked today and have work for the rest of the week weather permitting. that said i realise that some have more financial commitments than i do so sorry for you. what i dont like is having to 'phone customers to rearrange although they always understand.
colin
-
Snowing again here ::)
Just got two jobs locally so should be ok and no cancelations as yet ???
-
Written off again :(
More sledging :D
Shaun
-

colin
-
It rained here all day yesterday.... But today's a sunny day at the moment and I've only got a chewing gum removal job at the local...
Might pop down to the beach with the mutts today 8)
-
Nothing for me today snowing again.
To the supermarket I must go.
John
-
Hi Guys
It's been raining for about 3 hours now but still got stuck near Brentwood on a stone drive.
My van has been really hard to control in the snow so am glad of the rain, it's virtually cleared the snow here.
Cheers

I'm going to ask a stupid question. If your liveliehood depends on driving in poor conditions might it be worth investing in Snow Chains or Similar?
You might never use them, but if you might NEED them one day.
just a thought
-
if your livlihood was ruined by one or two days work then theres something wrong, if it snowed everyday then snow chains would be the norm.
so yes!
stupid question ;D
derek
-
Had a company van with snow chains on that broke and the wing looked a right mess that was about 18 years ago I can't really remember a snow fall like it since apart from now.
Perhaps we are reversing global warming and we don't need eco cleaning anymore??
Shaun
-
Seems like only me working today while you lot play on yer wii ;D ;D
-
It's called insurance derek, like jump leads, or tyre inflators, but you probably don't feel the the need for those either!
-
Shaun ,,, have a drive up to the Mcdonalds roundabout at Tankersley, some one built a massice snowman on it,,, every day it has a sex change, it was a very big man today lol
-
yeah got those robert.
sorry for responding to your question all though in my defence, you did suggest it was stupid, just confirming your suspicions me old. ;D
derek
-
Jason went past your concrete firm the other day (well I think it was yours) big area with 2 porter cabins??
Shaun
-
We had some kids in the middle of a large roundabout here throwing snowballs at the cars ::)
-
My Dad got my old sledge out today so I no I mean we have been on the hills going reeeeally fast.
Shaun
-
Snow chains are fine till they snap and, like Shaun says, your wings are shredded.
Used to drive a van with them fitted in my youth 32 years ago when we had snow.
John
-
Were do you guys go sledging or went years ago ???
-
Sheffield has 7 major hills, former deputy labour leader Roy Hattersley likened it to Rome ;D but if you can't go sledging here it's time to give over! unless like David Blunkett you may not find them until it's too late.
Shaun
-
We have buxton which is half hour or so from us here in stockport for sledging :)
Have been to one of the hills years ago in shefield :)
-
Can you remeber where?
Shaun
-
Shaun
Think it was near the moors or near the border ???
Used to go sledging at cusworth park in donny as a kid when we lived there :)
-
Not sure as Sheffield is a bit of an island with borders on all sides.
I think I may go again tomorrow I enjoyed it that much, when I look outside I'm sure I can see Ford Capris stuck in the snow and my Mum shouting "shut the door!" and the smell of the calor gas heater in the front room!!
I need comfort food, anyone got an Aztec Bar?
Shaun
-
dont forget the multi coloured back door drapes to stop flys coming in.
curly whirly and a cadburys boost. yum
derek
-
Remember Old Jamaica chocolate? my Mother used to have it, too strong for me though.
Shaun
-

Well you've got to have faith ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Shaun
