Post by: monkeyman on February 01, 2009, 08:05:51 pm
at the mo i,m collecting on the night but am a bit tired of doing this to be honest, how do you guys who use self addressed envolopes find it,do you find everyone pays on time,do you state on the ticket for example "please pay within seven days" and do you get them to write there address on the back so you know who,s paid, are all the custies ok with paying by cheque?

sometimes you dont get paid for like 2 months so then you have to go chasing the money.

Most clients will pay on time, either sending a cheque or via online payment via paypal or bank transfer.

I even say they get a cheaper window clean for paying these ways as i dont have to return. If they want me to collect i will but i charge extra for it - my time, fuel etc.

problem is not everyone wants to pay later, they may be busy, be out, or have no money with them..

Give them the options..

I hate collecting more than working in cold, rain etc, however it is still my main way of bringing in the money as it helps keep up loyalty in custies, correct any problems and mainly - get paid on time, i use envelopes after a few weeks and no answer, but i call every wednesday evening and if missed envelope goes in, i go home, and if no pay still (which happens 9/10) i go knock !! But its a 2 hr job one evening and im paid!!

You could spend that time working out what cheques are arriving etc maybe not so much but still, i find its a necessary evil and cant find a realistic way out of it that doesnt mean my cash flow wont die!!

I'm sure most of you feel this way

I would rather clean the windows in any weather than go out collecting

but it has to be done. And you never know you may get £40 out of the £100 you are owed

Hi Gemma i have been facing the same problem over the last 13 years of doing the job, but always gone back to collecting as this is the best system. I usually do most my domestic monday to thursday and have thursday nights as my collecting night. I also think its good for the customer to see you each month so you know they are happy with the service and they are seeing whothey are dealing with. For the ones that are not at home i will put a envelope through and request prompt payment. I find this way that most thursdays i probably get 80 to 90% at home. Least you get the majority. Whereas if you just use envelopes then you can be waiting forever to get money in. Hope this helps. Cheers David :)

I only use SAE's as i hated collecting..... it just made life miserable going out at night collecting.
Most customers pay within a couple of weeks so cash flow is ok.
My reciepts ask customers to put their address on the back of the cheque but as each customer has a unique customer reference number, i always write that on the back of each envelope as a back up.
It works for me.

I do sae.

They get a slip each time the clean takes place.

On the reply envelope I put a code in the top left so I know who its from.

Say its Bloggs street Im working in the code would be B1, 2 etc.

Normal payment is within two weeks but I do have a few who go over. I give them a call on the phone and its normally ok.

I have found this system works well for me.
