Title: GRAND DESIGNS
Post by: Big Dave @ CWC on January 31, 2009, 10:50:07 pm
i got a call the other day. "urgently need a clean. cannot work out quote via quote calculator on your site due to windows being various sizes."  arranged a viewing, it was in Staplehurst, Kent, turned up and its an arched roof building.  one of those fancy designs.

Walked round the building to price it, i said to him, this should be on Grand Designs, he goes "it is on grand designs, thats why i got you here, its showing on 18th February, i need it spotless inside and out, especially for the final fiming. You missed Kevin McCloud by an hour."  I was gutted, i love that programme.

What a catch, i'll get to see my work on national TV. lol, bonus, thought of asking for my logo to be shown but its a building programme aint it, you dont see that stuff on it do you.

Anyone else had that? :D

Hi, I've never been so lucky myself but just wanted to say that my baby daughter was born yesterday at 11.10 a.m  :) after choosing to have a home birth, the midwife came, did her job and left again saying she would come back and visit again in the eve to see how we are getting on. By the time she came back we were watching Grand Designs on digital tv, me and my mrs were saying we'd seen it before but remembered it was a good one so chose to watch it again, you know...that one where the bloke builds a house out of wood using old methods in a coppice somewhere in the south (tolworth or something?), anyway, when the midwife came in we had it playing on the tv, I noticed her looking at the tv and then she said "I've been there, and delivered a baby!", and that they got two kids now, sure enough they showed the mother with kids. Maybe I should ask her to phone them for me and put in a good word lol  ;D
Quite a surprising coincidence though;)

Grand Designs and Tme Team, two of my favourite TV programs that I can watch when having my dinner Tuesday and Thursday. Both off at the moment but look forward to their return soon.  Just to show we do get some good British TV down here in Oz. The other one me and the kids like is scrapyard challenge I think its called especially Andy "Proper Job"

I did one for "Escape to the Country" a couple of years back, they were desperate, needed it done by 8am the next morning and were paying cash on completion - you can guess I milked it for all I could get.
When the programme aired the building looked fantastic, the reality was it was still only half finished and they filmed carefully and put in lots of props.
The building recently went on the market, I posed as a buyer and went for a viewing, it still isnt bloody finished.

Yeh thats the one Marcus, back of beyond in Holbeach, I think nearly every cleaner in the area had turned them down and they were getting very desperate.
I started it at 6am and charged them £150 for 2 hours work, went and had a fry up and then worked the houses all day, was a good day, you should have took it!!

I wouldn't trust that roof though,.. you could get exactly the same look and still have a bit if steel hidden inside the layers holding the whole structure up!!
