Oh God,I'm sooo glad i got an accountant for this year. £300 but like people always say....1 or 2 trips down to see them, carrier bag in hand and it meant for the first time in years i didn't have to go thru all this cr*p. I almost enjoyed xmas for once lol. And yes i'm convinced he paid for himself, not by loads but enough.
Wish i could help you out mate, but i'm gormless at self assessment. Sometimes i even guessed where to put figures in(and almost definitely in the wrong place too)
George+accountant=Time for Living(in my book)
Hope you get the answer ya lookin for(cos i know this aint it)  :-\

Just looked through my old tax return.

I now reckon its other expenses.

There is another section where you can add additional info. Write in there that your other expenses are for sub-contractors.

This is the 1st year ive had employees and subbys so i decided to get an accountant to save all this mither. Hes charged me under £300 which is also tax deductable.

The best thing to do to be sure is ring HMRC.
