Post by: G O A on January 23, 2009, 05:14:00 pm
does everyone knock off 40p a mile for tax purposes or a % of the vehicle usage?
looking into gettin a van and have been charging the 40 p a mile but thinking of changing it to a % on the van as it will be mainly for work
any feedback

I do 40p a mile and charge it to my limited company as the vehicle is my own.

I do mine on % of total running costs.
Not saying it's the best way.  It's just the way I've always done it.
My van is my only vehicle.  I offset 85% of total running costs against the business as I do have some private use out of it.  This % also applies to loan interest that relates to the van and the same % of the capital allowance.
If I had a private car, it would be 100%.
