Title: new website
Post by: richy27 on January 22, 2009, 09:51:08 pm
I am now getting on with sorting out my new website as all i have at the moment is a simple web presence.
Whats the best sites you have seen when noseyin on google.
Already deal with a designer/developer for other work so goin to stick with them because i think they will do good job with the optimisation.

Just wondered what good sites were out there that i haven seen just to get some ideas

Cheers

Richard

not mine deffo, but my new one is looking ok, aftar chatting with mark at dp ive come to agree with his ethics on website, short and simple, no long boring texts and most importantly of all, no scrolling down the page,
log on, read it, if your interested then click on a few more pages, what could be simpler than that. to much text kills a website. and a picture or two paints a thousand words.
my own newly enlightened views.

Not sure with that Derek, too long and they are bored too short and you can't get the message across, pretty pictures do hold you on a page longer but the idea is to mix the two.

I think it will be another 2 years until us northerners get the same response as London area and commuter area response.

Shaun

Think there is a north south divide.

There again my mrs is younger than me and she books everything on the net from cinema to meals etc

So think its also the age too.

Lets hope we do catch up,only trouble is it increases the price shopers >:(

Pictures of babies, puppies and kittens and a big phone number.

The price shopper thing will slow down but may take years as the average internet enquirer has a lower average age and a lower attention span as you can flick from page to page with the push of a button.

I like following human nature even if it does infuriate me!

Thats why i dont / wont have E-Mail enquires on my web site, you cant sell to them like you can on the phone, if there intrested enough they will pick the phone up, in another business we used to run we had an E-mail facility on the site and all we got was time wasters.

I would however have something like enter your E-mail address for this months special offers, or free stain guide and then at least you can do E-mail marketing

That's the best idea Paul, whack them on the database and it cost nothing to send them stuff every so often.

If someone emails I simply say I need to speak to them. If they ring or give me their number to ring back great, if they don't no worse off.

Hi Guys

My Leeds site gets lots of enquiries and the lads do well out of it, maybe Leeds is different to say Sheffield or Manchester, I don't know ?

It's a balance between text and pictures, text is searched, pictures are not.

Cheers

Doug
