:)

The Guild is a new organisation, and very small compared to the FED or APWC etc,.. so obviously the benefits of membership aren't quite as extensive. But for £12 per year, you get the sticker on your van, logo's to use on your stationary & website etc, the occasional competition/give-away, your company details & links on the Guild website, the occasional special offer from suppliers etc etc.

The Guild is growing though, and many ideas are being put forward to improve and expand the benefits we can offer to members, and a lot of hard work is being put into it by the members themselves to make these improvements,... I'm genuinely impressed by the enthusiasm and effort expended by some of the members in this area!

Now is the best time to join as the you will get a full term of membership (£12.00 per year regardless of when you join). Look I even made it easy for you (and anyone else interested) - The link for the website is below ;)

I like the idea that they are all positive minded and want to put something back into window cleaning and not just take all the time.

As one of the new recruits i had a quick scout on their members only board where the guild top brass shoot new ideas and they have quite a few. There doesn't seem to be any politics and they are constantly looking for extra benefits for members. And, they have been given the accolade of a wikipedia definition' a world wide window cleaning band of brothers', those weren't the exact words but something like.

In a word - yes.

Nat (and the Admin team) have gone to great lengths to offer something quite special for window cleaners.

The input from other members is staggering!!...seriously, you'd think ever member personally 'owned' the Guild the way they discuss the smallest detail (such as the Guild sticker)...but every single member is heard and has the chance to respond and affect the outcome.

I should probably point out - I am a member. I joined last year.

Best £12.00 you'll spend in my humble opinion  :)

Curses i've been rumbled!

Well i've joined and i'm pretty pleased with myself mainly because they are such a nice bunch of blokes.

I've always admired what you have done with the diy site. The first time i saw wfp working it was a vid of you.You must have led so many to make so much. That probably wasn't your intention but thanks anyway. ;D

sorry...bit of an 'in joke' there  ;D  ;D

Got to agree with DWC about the DIY site - it spurred me on to think about the DIY options. Hats off to matt for that.

Title: Re: is the guild any good
Post by: Clive McDonald on January 23, 2009, 09:12:18 pm
To be honest i've wondered about this, as the guild get's bigger i suppose it must attract some of the more negative posters/big heads/ ego trips.

All i can say is that at the moment it's all good guys and there isn't any politics.

Besides, some of my unwanted comments, have altered some of your attitudes.Debate and disagreement is healthy although i take your point about argueing for arguments sake.

All of us want different things. I want to make money and be a success, your approach might be a bit more rounded. So i believe you would be in a position to help people because of your practical knowledge if you joined the guild, and i will benefit financially by having joined. Therefore we all benefit.

Clowns following you - I doubt it matt, I'm surprised you're not already there to be honest. It has a totally different 'feel'.

Will your opinion be welcomed? - Are you kidding!! Your site is quoted often. Most guys have a lot of respect for your ideas....and who hasnt made a Harris pole?

As DWC says There arent arguments for the sake of it - theres plenty of discussion of though!

There doesnt seem to be a heirachy or clique. You can find yourself disagreeing with a poster on one topic and totally agreeing with him in another topic.

I dont think the 'clowns' and 'trolls' would last very long over there. Most guys are totally open about which systems they use, where they live in the country, their trading names, pictures of their systems and that sort of stuff. You know if you get into a discussion exactly where they are coming from because we all know who is using Ionics, purefreedom, DIY etc etc...... and theres no system snobbery.

Matt, I am surprised that you let people get to you.
I hope im not on your clown list, your site is good and I also tell loads of people about it.
Your opinion is like anyone elses, you either take it or you dont.
I personally like being ridiculed by others shows they are interested in some way or they would not bother, I have found over my time on forums that the ones that ridcule and stay tend to be the people that listen to you more, the ones that dont and do it just to be wind-ups stop as they get bored just like a kid would as they dont get the attention they are after.

if thats the only reason that is holding you back, I would say go for it, your a helpful guy, I will stop now as I dont want your head to swell. As you already no I will disagree with you if I think what you say is wrong.

Get on there sunny and you will not be blocked  ;)

Yes it is slightly more expensive than yours.
£30 for the first year which includes 3 vehicle logos.
Additional logos £3 each
£15 for subsequent years
This is purely a non profit making idea and in December we handed over £200 to a childrens hospice with total backing of all members. www.safetyawarecontractor.co.uk/charity_work.html

Where do I sign up? What are the minimum member requirements? I like it,.. its a very good idea!

Membership:
1.Proof of your ability to control risks etc by sending in a copy of one method statement, risk assessment or H&S policy relevant to your business and a particular job/project. The submitted document must be checkable with the person responsible who will be named on the document. These documents can be sent by post, fax or e-mail. Also a copy of your insurance to carry out window cleaning.
2.Membership to last 12 months on each renewal.
3. Initial membership cost to be £30 which will include the cost of 3 vehicle stickers, a business linking on the web site and the use of logo on your personal stationary. Each additional sticker to cost £3 each.
4. Renewal membership to cost £15 per year.
5. All members will be consulted on what to do with any monies left in the account after allowing for expenditures. This could be for example donation to charity of agreed decision, purchasing far advanced web site, extra free vehicle stickers per member etc.
6. All paid up members will have a say on how SAC is run.

I usually find a hairdrier does a good enough job of losening the glue on most sign writing/logos. Any remaining glue can be removed with terps etc and finished off with T-Cut

the way i see it is, the more associations you have joined the better (from a customers point of view) which indicates to them that you take your profession seriously and that you you want to present an image that reflects a thoughful attitude and attention to detail etc (wot a waffler) lol ;D

Of course i am ever so slightly biased toward the www.mgwc.org as co-founder, however even if i only stumbled across it today i would join as the member fee is very attractive in these credit crunch days, plus the benefits are plain to see, free advertising, license to use the logo, a global network, blah blah (dont undersell it scrimmy) ;)

The online form requires EVERY field to be filled in,.. even if you just put "N/a." for sections that don't apply to you,... other wise you get an error msg.
