My website has slowly (ever so slowly) been creeping up the rankings, (www.kinderclean.co.uk) it's now number 44 in a google search for
'Carpet cleaners Chesterfield', still not good enough I know, but as it's been hovering between 150 - 200 for months previously, its a big improvement. (site has been live almost a year!!) Can anyone offer some assistance to give it that final push.
I know I need a link page adding and someone mentioned meta tags on photos, if someone wants to volunteer there services for a reasonable rate I am open to offers, I will also need a few minor alterations on the site.
It hit home when Doug said in a recent posting - its all right having a pretty site, but if it's not going to be found... well that's me.
HELP PLEASE !!!!!!
Cheers

I see looking at your source code that you have the word "Chesterfield" in your description, try putting it in your title as well, also try changing your alternative text from "kinder van" to a search term....worth a try ;)

Paul,
Your best optimised page is the Allergy one. You are on Google's front page for Allergy control chesterfield. it's a start.
For Your home page do what Chris says.
Change the title to ... "Chesterfield Carpet Cleaning & Upholstery Cleaning Specialists". That will keep you under 64 characters.
Change the page description to...
"Chesterfield carpet cleaners, Kinder Clean are specialists offering a healthier alternative to traditional cleaning methods with carpet and upholstery cleaning based in Chesterfield, UK.
"carpet cleaners Chesterfield" is only getting an average monthly search on Google of 58, so do not expect miracles here.
Hope that helps,
Garry

personally i'd buy the domain name www.carpetcleanerschesterfield.co.uk, that will get on the first page 58 times a month if garry's figures are correct, without any seo but only for that search term.
just a thought and exactly what i'm in the process of doing, i'll let you know if it works.

Iv been messing about trying to build a website on microsoft office live,i bought the domain name www.hydropowerclean.co.uk months ago and it never came up in google ranking unless you maybe went to page 100!! A couple of days ago i took Dereks advice and bought the domain www.carpetcleaningcraigavon.co.uk and put it as my primary domain and now for some reason if i put in carpet cleaning craigavon "hydropowerclean.co.uk" is on page 4 and www.hydropowerclean.co.uk is on page 9 and both the sites are different from crap to crapper but they are works in progress in fairness until i get an expert to look at them. But to say im confused about this is an understatement ??? ??? ???

Ryan,
I believe there are something like a hundred or more factors involved with ranking alghorithms. The URL is just one of those and seems to be have been downgraded in importance in the last couple of years.
When I have tried to look at the sites I was re directed to your new domain address each time.
When I have tried to track your sites I've found the old one at 40 on Google and 24 on Yahoo.
The new one has dissappeared.
It's possibly a (temporary) duplicate content issue. If the two sites were similar when they were crawled, the search engines may have dropped the new one down in because the same content was already on the web. When the re direct is discovered, it may sort itself out. Without seeing both sites I cannot really comment further.

Ryan, just looked at the two sites in different browsers.
You've got the same pages on two different URL's. The one ranked is the /carpets.aspx page, not the home page.
This has happened (accidently)to both myself and Stuart Clements in Middlesbrough. In our cases it was a thing called canonicalization. This where we had a "www.website .co.uk" and a "website .co.uk" with identical pages caused by mis filing.
Google views it as duplicate content and dumps it.
The best way to deal with it is to have totally different content on each site.
