Brother in law works for a local bed manufacturer who are in trouble, a big section of the workforce are from poland and live crammed in houses sharing the rent. They are voting for a wage drop to keep their jobs. If it goes through my brother in law will be taking home £180 a week! He's been there thirty odd years and will come away with about £6000 if the factory goes under. :-\
-
i do count myself lucky, but the polish lot arnt lucky living in them conditions, and i det there getting penuts for wages.so what is your point, feel sorry for brother inlaw or feel sorry for the polish ??? ???

Both, feel the love dude!
-
feel sorry for your brother inlaw the polish do have a choice!
-
Take your pick but i was thinking more of the brother in law.
Some days i only earn £100 and feel peed off. My point was £180 take home for a full weeks work is pretty poor don't you think?
-
feel sorry for your brother inlaw the polish do have a choice!
indeed
180 quid a week is still better pay than back home in poland
-
We shouldn't have allowed all the foreigners to come and work here in the first place unless they are trained for a specific job.
They should have tightened up years ago and let the british people have the chance of jobs, especially in the construction industry.
-
The solution is to drastically cut the workforce i.e. send several of the poles home and reduce costs. But as the poles are the bigger majority they are willing to vote for lower pay which means the guys who have worked there all their lives will have to go with the vote. People on here who don't live in industrial areas and can brag of not getting out of the van for less than £25.00 are very lucky. Things are becoming worse every day.
I have nothing against the Poles it's the situation that looks bad for every one. :-\
-
The thing is if the bed company got rid of the poles and allowed the british workers to keep their jobs, the majority of the british workers would work harder to keep the business afloat. We do live in great brotain...send the bloody foreigners home and let the brits have a chance.
-
send all the poles back, i here they claim money from goverment and send back to there home, seems to me they are better off the british people >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
yes child allowance for kids back in poland but its not just the polish!!!!!
-
It was on tv the other day...Anglia news...the polish community especially the younger generations are going back to poland because they now realise that they can no longer afford to live here....
What about the brits...we have no choice,we live here. They also said that because the economic downturn will eventually turn and things will get better then foreigners will return to work again.
So we have to get through the s.hit without them and then when things are rosy again we will allow them all back in....this country is a joke.
-
yes child allowance for kids back in poland but its not just the polish!!!!!
No you are right....some foreigners come over here who are a benefit to our society, but most eastern nationals see us as an easy turn, well they did and now they can bugger off again.

unless we learn and do as the Australians do ( only let them in if they are skilled in a job that they need )
of course this "downturn" isnt because of the cheap labour ( its afterall a worldwide downturn ) but they cannot have it both ways, here when times are good, back home when they are bad, then back again when things pick up
-
the bed company who is employing the poles doesnt care,if the polish had work ih there home they would work in there country, they are hard workers, and shouild have the same chance of everyone else, my brother works all week doesnt earn 180,just offered someone a job,5hours a day 5days a week for 200 he said no wants 250.
everyones in the same boat my anuty worked in woolworths 30years its happening everywere,
-
family and friends dont mix,he sometimes does saturdays for me.and if all the poles are working ligit, they have the same rights,if not bedcompany should be reported, they wont send polish home if there working cheaper then brits
-
You say the downturn is not because of cheap labour...but it has something to do with it.
All legal workers (of which i presume there are some) on minimum wage and upwards can claim working tax benefits and child tax benefits.....this is a drain on our benfits system and increases the burden to taxpayers.Ok yes if a british person was in that job they would also be entitled to these benefits but they would also probably be coming off unemployment benefits.income support....
Foreingners are also a huge burden on the national health services, this has to be paid for somewhere...yes out of the taxpayers money...i know the foreigners pay taxes, but how long have they been here to pay it??
As has been said, make it like Oz...dont let them in unless they are required for their skills, and also make every foreingner who lives here pay a deposit in case they decided to claim benefits or use our health system, and then we have something from them as well.
-
I was speaking to a foreign worker the other day and was told that the exchange rate is killing them at the moment,
Alot of them send money home and the poor value is hardly making it worth their while.

and if more brits got of there back sides and got jobs, there wouildnt be any jobs for polish,at least there willing to work
-
Thats the same old argument mate....
There will allways be a lazy and scrounging element to any society...do you think poland has no spongers,no lazy sods....of course not.
The answer is what the government does to prevent this.Ok lets say that the 3 million that may be unemployed soon are all told that they have to go to work,no matter how meanial,no matter if it is basic wage,no matter if it is not what they are trained to do....but they have to get work that is available. If they are told that their benefits will stop if they dont then you just watch those so called lazy brits get out and do it.
The trouble is a lot of unemployed will not get the opportunity because foreign labour takes a hell of a lot of basic pay jobs, and then when they are not making enough to send back to their homeland they all want to bugger off.
Of course there are lazy brits, people who want a free ride, people who have no moral standards, but you tell that to the british man or woman who is out of work and has a family to raise,do you think they would jump at the chance of work.
The UK failed its own people many years ago when it opened the doors to this country, allowing basically anyone into the country who wanted a better life.Well what about the people who have paid into the tax system,or the people who have paid into pension funds,or the people who worked hard to buy theire houses just to have them repossesed and then be able to get council accomadation because foreigners are taking them away from the people who through years of hard work desrve them.
Dont tell me Brits are lazy when in times like we are suffering, with it only to get worse, many people are going through turmoil yet we still hand out benefits to foreigners.
This once great nation has been bought to its feet because of incompetant governments allowing this country to be used by foreigners for economic gain and by foreigners who come here and preach their religion and foreign laws.
Close the doors and sort the systems out and make them all pay for what they have...you watch how many will bugger off back to their countries if they had to contribute to the country what the majority of british citizens do.
-

How do you judge a 'foreigner'. Would it have been all the British that went to Germany and the like in the last recession looking for work? Is it me, an Irish man working in Manchester.
I was listning to the radio a few weeks ago and it was a program about british bricklayers going to Holland for work. Surely you mean then that they should be stopped at the port and prevented from leaving the country? Won't they be a foreigner in Holland.
Come to think of it, isn't Pingu a foreigner then too? Come home Pingu.
-
Yes why not prevent them from working there unless their skills are specifically needed and do not take away work from the citizens of that country.
If foreingners come into a country and take work away from its citizens then in my eyes that country is failing its citizens.
Do you think that all the foreign labour that is working on the olympic sites are necesarry in these times when many brickies and labourers are out of work,of course not. There is not a surplus of work to support foreign labour in this country, and i imagine a lot of british citizens are p..sed right off that they are suffering yet we hand out millions and millions in benefits and housing benefits to foreigners.
If Ireland had a flood of imigrants taking the little work that maybe available would that not be wrong, would you not consider the irish people should have the chance to have their own job opportunities?
I am not against foreigners coming here, but they should be going through a rigourous system to enable this country to get only those who would benefit our society and culture,in other words poeple who are trained to specific standards who can offer the services to this country...IF NO BRITISH CITIZEN CAN BE FOUND TO FILL THAT JOB ROLE.
-

yes there are lazy brits at least 20 people i have interviewed wont work for 200 aweek, they will but want there dole aswell, one guy said ill do it for a profit of what i earn and his dole, whats going on there.but they will stay on the dole for 45 quid a week, most are in the pub every night,i carnt aford that.

Wouldn't it be a little hypocritical of the Irish to complain about imigration. In 2004 they estimated 3 million Irish citizens lived outside Ireland. The popularion of the whole country is only 4.2million. That's some amount of emigration to then turn around and complain about poles coming into the country.

That's right. Because they are born in the squalor and crap of a soviet dictatorship, they should have to stay there. How dare they even think of trying to earn more and feed their family well like you do. What about the protectionism we are all involved in, living in Europe? What about subsidies to farmers preventing goods from cheaper countries coming into this country? They have to live in the home country squalor and by god we are going to make sure they never get out of it!

My partner works for the DSS and you should hear some of the stories the scroungers come up with to get free money. Strangely enough they don't all have 'funny foreigner' accents either.
You are just lucky you were born here and not Zimbabwe or somewhere else equally crap yet you go on like you have some god given right to prosper while no one else is allowed to.
-
Well before we start to support and help every other country how about looking after the one that we live in.
I dont disagree that other poor souls from less privaledged places want better for themselves and their families, but we just allow anyone to come here and get it,but at our expense.
If we operated a fairer system to the british taxpayer then in hard times maybe we wouldn't mind so much, but when the DSS give out money left right and centre to anyone, foreign or british, then the taxpayer is being wronged.
No doubt your missus sees huge amounts of claimants who basically are scroungers, but no doubt she also sees sob sob stories from people who came here with nothing but end up with something...well i dont care because i dont want to work my nuts off to pay for people who have not contributed to our country.
It is not my god given right to be the only one who prospers, but it is right that i should expect the british people to prosper from this country before others do.
My tax bill increases nearly every year,i dont mind that, but i want it to be spent on services that benefit the british citizen,i dont want my money going to romanian gypsies, polish part time workers or the other multitude of eastern nationals who use us as a meal ticket.

Bugger off Davids3511...I'm staying put..UK PLC is doomed and I shall sit here making cheese windmills whilst wearing my cloggs as your ship goes down ;D ;D ;D
Hey ...Love the euro to pound exchange rate by the way...hopefully it'll be 1 to 1 soon then I'll come back to do some shopping ;D ;D
Lets face it...the common man whether a UK Citizen or from outside the UK is not at fault...The House of Commons, House of Lords & the invisible croney's within the Home Office continue to feed from the fully flowing trough which is fed from the tax's you all pay...it is they who should be held to account for their actions but they are not, so why should they take their positions seriously...they know it's a joke and so do we....hence the UK is seen as a place to feed yourself to bursting...if you're able to get your snout close to the trough that is.
All the while there is no accountability the UK will continue to sink deeper into the poo until everyone drowns in it.
But for some to say foreigners are to blame is laughable and does make me feel pity for such small mindedness.
I look sadly to the coming years watching UK PLC's sickness continue until it is effectively disabled and in a vegetative state....sorry but as that chap on Dads Army used to say..."were you're doomed".
And and get this...My German Shepherd was exported to the U.K from Poland and I brought him from the U.K to Holland...so..that means even a Polish dog would'nt want to stay in the U.K ROFL>>> ;D ;D ;D and he'll work for scraps!
Cheers
Dave.
ps..I used to be very proud to be from the UK (I served my country and felt honoured to do so) but these days it is very hard to be that..instead I just feel sadness that a country that was so great is suffering so badly at the hands of those who are custodians charged with its protection..but fail, time and time again to carry out their duties.
The UK is a joke within the EU...Sorry but it just is.
-

what about all the brits who worked in germany and holland in the 80's when things werr grim here?
i guess they shouldn't have been allowed to earna living either.
-
How can you send the Poles back? They are members of the E U and travel is free between countries who are members of the EU its like saying send the English back home from Benidorm :)
-
and lets not forget that without the sacrifice of thousands of poles in the second world war we'd all be speaking german now.
-
Really I thought we declared war on Germany when they invaded Poland!!!
The Poles, contributed like many other nations, but dont forget it wasnt us who required liberating.
-

if you send back all the Poles then all the tents will fall down :-[ :o :-[

Interesting debate guys :)

I see in the daily mail today that the employment minister is requireing businesses to advertise their available positions to british people before foreigners from outside europe can apply for the job. They will have to prove that the job has been offered to the british public via advertising and via jobcentres. This will stop non EU citizens getting the jobs before the brits...however it still doesnt stop the rest of europe coming here and taking work from british citizens. We cant do nothing about that as we bow down to european law and have no say really. If this was to stop then more work would become available to the british public, the government could even try the novel idea of forcing the long term unemployed to take jobs that they feel are beneath them,at least that would shut the dogooders up who think all brits are lazy.
Give the jobs to the british,we live in britain,we are british...sod the rest of them, lets look after our own.
-
I think the best way to sort the long term unemployed is to run a system like the US. You only get 5 years of benefit in your lifetime. Once you have had your 5 years, that's your lot.
-
to many benefits that made britain lazy.the foreigners took the jobs that brits left behind .wasn't any competition for those jobs.now all the money fromn tax payers go to banks and companies to help with the economic situation.it's this right ?don't think so.life isn't fair all the time .you need to help it from time to time
-
Looks like the proverbial is hitting the fan now....BRITISH people are actually standing up for their right to work and have jobs....sod the europeans lets look after number 1.
-
We could also burn a couple of witches...
This is the type of talk that creates racism...
Lets face it anyone within the EU can travel within other EU member countries and work...if that individual so chooses.
I have to admit this type of 'foreigner talk' does make me very happy not to live in the UK anymore and if they were such a thing as a EU passport I would get that also....
Respectfully
Dave.
-
Yes well perhaps the people living in the uk want to have jobs for the british and not foreigners who can just come over here when they want to work.
It allways comes down to playing the rascist card when British people speak up for themselves.I am not rascist,i have been married to the most wonderful lady from Thailand for the last 14 years,so dont try and put that one on me.
I firmly believe that British citizens deserve the right to british jobs and it is not rascist at all to believe that.
European passport, well you can stick that,i dont want to be classed as european,i enjoy my identity as a British person.
Dave perhaps you are better where you are,but the poor sods over here who cannot make a proper living are paying the price now.
Britain should look after the british first and then worry about others.....
-
But when you are in the EU you cannot do that can you unless you pull out and I do honesty believe that would the last straw for the UK.
British jobs for British workers...fooey...the next time you had to visit a hospital you would have a right scare.
I am sorry but this BRITISH flag waving, all brits working together, Britania rules the waves is sad.
Italians, Poles etc are not to blame for the UK and the rest of the worlds woes..it's your and my gov't, home office and all the others with their snouts in the never ending trough...It would appear that yet again years of mis-managment have yet again bit us on the a&^$ but it is so easy to look at other country's workers and kick up a stink.
Looking a little closer to home is where the problems lie or is it lye?
Dave.
-
pingu you visit a hospital over here it would be empty without non
ethnic persons as would care homes they just cant get staff the problems
start and finn with benifits system
-
What is it with us Brits, we think we have the God given right to go where we please, and work if we want to, yet would deny that right to others.
The Europeans that are working here are working for the same rates of pay, it's the employers right to hire who he likes.
We voted to be part of the European union, and it was great when object one funding from the EEC paid for loads of substandard housing to be improved, many houses where I live got new roofs out of it.
Now some are demanding that European workers are sent back, the word Hypocrite comes to mind.
-
if you put a add in a paper job going no blacks no poles you would be hung
yet the euros are geting contracts and doing just that if you have ever been to france
you would know just how racist they are about the english something
to do about blowing up all there ships in the war or ahundred other things that p#]['
them off the point is all you want is a fair playing field

I count myself lucky.

Gentlemen are you aware that we spent £100 million on interpreters last year.Just think how many doctors, nurses, policemen, firemen etc we could get for that money. Regards Alan(swindon)

I agree Alan - why do we want Japanese interpreters just so Honda can come to Swindon and set up a car manufacturing plant that keeps so many Brits (including me) in work, hmmmmm????

I count myself lucky, although most people don't realise just how painfull it can be waking up each morning, looking in the mirror & seeing how good looking I am these days! Such a burden at times. :-\

It's an easy thing to say but people from EEC member countries do have a right to work here. In the same way, any English moving out to (for example) Spain have the right to work there too. If it stops one way, it should stop the other way. By stopping the Poles from working, it could effectively stop Brit nationals from emigrating to the EEC if they need to work when they get there.
-

Japanese car factories operating in the UK employ their own interpreters; I know because my Mother was a Japanese interpreter for Nissan in Sunderland. And there wasn't many Japanese who could speak Japanese, English and GEORDIE fluently; so she was paid a small fortune.
But I agree, we do waste a lot of tax payer's money on pointless daft Welsh translations when there's no requirement.

For pity's sake Tosh. When I visit my sister in Co. Durham I need an interpreter ;D .
Made me laugh the first time I went up to see her. There was some weather bulletin going on about (little skytie bits (spelling??) . We eventually found out it meant snow.

Any bugger can understand the geordie lingo, as long as your fluent in Scottish. But from the last blogs lets bring the drawbridge up anyway, even though we're 25 years too late. Bit of homiphobia gannin on i reckon. (not in my back yard and all that!)

180 for a weeks work is really bad for someone thats worked there for so many years. i mean people of the age of 16 can start jobs nowa days for 250quid Pw
