Clean It Up

Hi all,
I have a proposal for you.
I recently posted about my canvassing for you. I have since just committed myself to a good guy not far from me, so my own time is now taken up at the moment. He is paying me double for all jobs, to be canvassed and quoted by myself. But after receiving lots of requests - especially from areas too far from me - for my canvassing services, I have since decided to take people on in these areas to canvass on my behalf.
As some of these places are too far afield for me to be able to travel to train people how to price up a job, I have an idea.
First, you give me details on what kind of work you're after. Ie:
- minimum job/house price
- rear access needed
- traditional/wfp
- when 1st clean will be
- areas wanted
- what days/times you clean
- do you wipe sills/frames
I will then find and send out a canvasser or 2 in those areas armed with this info. They will knock doors, and since they don't know how to price jobs, they will simply get the name, phone number and address of potential custies who have requested a clean. They will then tell the potential custie that they will be contacted shortly for a quote and clean. I will also email the canvasser, before they go knocking, some simple slips with your name and company details on that the canvasser will pass to those folks that want to think it over. When they decide they do want a clean, they will contact you directly and you get that job for free.
The canvasser will then give me all the customer details he has just got that day, and then either:
a) I can phone up all the leads and quote/estimate them over the phone, handing over to you jobs ready to clean - for which I'll charge double for every job price. Eg, if a job is £14, you pay me £28. I will let the customer know that it is an estimate, and that you will personally verify the price when you visit. I expect that you will visit some of these jobs and find I may have under/over-priced them, as I have estimated them over the phone. You can adjust the price and pay me accordingly. You won't pay me anything for jobs that blow out.
Or:
b) I can pass the leads straight to you, and you can quote them and pay me double whatever the minimum house price you wanted (stated prior to canvassing) for each lead that confirms as a certified job for you. This way, you will never pay more than your double minimum house price. For example, if you tell me the minimum house you want is £12, for every job that confirms, you pay me £24 - double the minimum. What this means is, if I get you jobs that are £13, £15, £20, £25, £30, etc - you will only ever pay £24 for each one. You won't pay me anything for jobs that blow out.
So what's the catch?
I'm an honest bloke, and I would preferably like to take a deposit as a commitment from you before I and anyone else goes knocking. But I know that times are hard and some haven't got the cashflow for that. So instead, as a small commitment from you, and so me and the gang aren't waiting too long to be paid, here's the catch.
In scenario a) above, you pay half before the clean (I pay this to the canvasser), and the other half after the clean (this goes to me).
In scenario b) above, you pay your minimum house price (eg £12) before the clean (I pay this to the canvasser), and your minimum house price (eg £12) after the clean (this goes to me).
Also, as part of the catch, we use this forum as a medium to report how things are going, to let others know if either one of us falls short on the agreement. That way, we're more likely to help each other out, since neither one of us wants our reputations attacked on this forum ;-)
For me, I just want to make some cash while I work on my career.
What do you think?
Scotty

sounds fair enough
2 X the clean is a good price, and i am sure people will take you up on the offer
good luck with it

can of worms scotty i would save your trouble and do it on your own and don't bother getting other canvassers involved
-
Yer i was kind of hoping it would be you Scotty, dont know now.
-
Good to be entrepreneureal but
Here's the deal...
1) No payment up front, you conduct canvassing however you want, either using footwork and phone - whatever.
2) For every conversion to a sale, you get paid full cost of 1st clean on completion when job is paid for.
End of contract. It's up to operative to make it work from then on.
No win no fee! If you're good - you'll earn well! If you're better - you'll earn more!
-
What happens if custy cancels after 1st clean.
Chris
-
Yer i was kind of hoping it would be you Scotty, dont know now.
It was just an idea that would get other people canvassing where I couldn't get to. I've had a little team before, and they did good. It would still either be me or you that confirms the job, and you only pay if the job confirms.
What happens if custy cancels after 1st clean.
Chris
I'll refund you half the amount you already paid me - half for you for cleaning, and half for me for canvassing.
Just putting it out there, my friends.
Scotty
-
Im am up for that, and am willing to give you a try.
give me a call after 6pm

Scotty! are you the same chap that is canvassing for my mate david in Poole Dorset!

Make sure you have the phone number of the custy to check, you know what these dodgy window cleaners are like.. ;)

Scotty,
Sounds like a good idea,
Have you thought of setting up a website for this venture?

Im with you on that Steve, I Like your enthusiasm Scotty, but i honestly think you will cause lots of problems for yourself. Just stick to areas that you can cope and deal with.

I hadn't - do you think it would help?

I would pay NOTHING AT ALL up front.

Been thinking, a few addons:
1) I'm willing to work with instalments if folks want to spread payment;
2) I will give you the jobs for you to check before you hand over the 1st payment;
3) I will pay the canvasser after you have checked the jobs and made the 1st payment, and I will make that clear from the start - this way, the canvassers won't get away with giving me duff info;
4) If you have checked the jobs, made the 1st payment, and then any jobs blow out before the first clean, I will refund you half of the 1st payment made;
5) If you have gone round and made the first clean, and they have turned around and said they don't want you again (more fool them) then you can keep the 2nd payment.
I think all this sounds anal, but we all want to make money, and none of us wants to be ripped-off. I just want to make some cash while working on my career, and at the same time, leave some folks better than I found them. Corny, but true ;-)

I have used canvassing teams in the past...sometimes works, sometimes dont.
What allways worries me is that a customer can be gained from a hard sell.
Why not canvass and rent the customers out to the window cleaner and share the turnover and then at an agreed point in time...say 4 months the window cleaner can then pay for the customers which he has already serviced for 4 months.
That way the canvaser and the window cleaner get a good deal and the canvaser earns more from the start.
-
A simple question to the Mods -
WCBC was deemed to be offering a 'service for sale' and his membership was suspended until he pays?
How so, this topic can run and run?
I take it Scott Stevens is paying advertising rates?
Why don't I see a "paid advertiser" logo on his avatar?
Why isn't this topic shifted to an appropriate (advertisers) Forum?
If you're going to wield your big stick...don't you think you should do it fairly?
....or will I get banned for stating the bleedin' obvious? ;D ;D
I have nothing against you Scott, just the way CIU uses its mighty POWER!!!!!! ::)
It seems totally unfair.
-
its the way CUI is,
Advertisers are all equal but some are more equal than others
Still, WCBC would not come back here, he said it himself. This place is not winning any popularity contests, however is a big draw on newbies to the profession, which Express Cleaning Supplies can make money from, which is the very reason for this forum
We all know there are more helpul, un biased forums out there, which u and i and many others use David, which are far better - the only thing this forum has is numbers.
I know where to contact Kev, should i need help.. advice etc.. CUI's loss, others gain ;)

Totally agree chrisy,
But what about fairness?
It stinks that CIU (or its moderators) can pick and choose who to allow to advertise and who cant advertise and what rules apply and what rules dont!!
Let me make it clear - I have NOT signed up to any service. I have no vested interest....but the double standards leave me feeling like a fool.
WCBC responded to a regular poster and that topic got over 1,000 hits and over 20 pages of replies. WCBC defended his corner and other poster defended their corner. It was an interesting and enlightening topic.
This topic is nothing more than blatant ADVERTISING. NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS.
There is no discussion. No challenging of ideas. No thoughts from other posters - its just a simple BUY MY SERVICES advert.
I'm sorry Scott - I my humble opinion, you should PAY CIU to advertise your servicers and it should be removed from the regular topics and put in the adverts forum.
MODS - either let a discussion run to its conclusion or REMOVE all adverts.
-
David.
I think it's a case they just haven't spotted it yet. I'm surprised at how many have bit. All the ones i'd least expect to.
This is harmless pipe dreaming though.
Coach will come back, and he will pay.To be honest i had a few schemes that might have interested him.

I agree this is no different to any other advertising he is still selling a product.
-
he is rather good at it though, look at the ones he's sucked in. He lives hundreds of miles from them and he's not even a window cleaner, or a canvasser even. He's a philosopher.

DWC,
I sat back and i read everything. I dont think I replied once...there was so much much to absorb!! Both the Pro's and Con's of his ideas.
I learnt LOTS from everybody....is it worth it? Hmmmm reading today replies, I reckon not. - log in the next next day......hmmmm, he's psoted up another idea!!!....and on and on it went!!!
It was a excellent "discussion"..... I even got some personal messages from other posters to show me how they achieved the same results for free!! They even sent me their artwork and flyers to show me what to do????????
Isnt this what we are all about? - helping each other?
And lets give WCBC his due, he sparked it off - because other posters wanted to show me how to do it for free!!!
I say again, Scott - I have no axe to grind against you, and have nothing to sell. It just seems totally unfair that a very popular discussion was stopped in its tracks (for advertising reasons) and another is allowed to continue......ADVERTISING!!
I cant make head or tail of it!!!
Will a MOD please let me know where I'm going wrong?
A level playing field is all I ask.

Its not important though really, is it?
Not when people are dying in the middle east, or starving in the third world.
:D ;)

sounds good scoty give me a email tomorrow martinamies@fsmail.net

:D ;)
I didint realise any of us (including WCBC or Scott!!) were dying in the middle east?
If Scott is dying in the middle east, let him come forward and let me know....then I'll question how he's able to offer his "proffessional services" as a window cleaning round builder to people in the UK.
Reading the posts - he's based in London (so not exacly third world!) come on Gazza, he's ADVERTISING pure and simple.
Theres no harm in that....but is he paying CIU?
That was after all, the reason WCBC was suspened.
How is Scott different?
-
Sorry,
i was just having a bit of fun and trying to lighten the situation, and by saying " dying and starving" i wasn't referring to Scott having to make ends meet.... i purely meant its not worth getting stressed out over, when there are more important things going on in the world.....
sorry it wasnt meant to offend.
I do agree, if this is not advertising a paid service, then i dont know what is!!!
It should be the same treatment for everyone,.. or leave all posts alone.
-

I was having lots of fun reading the topic which WCBC replied to -
It was brilliant. Everyone had something to say and something to contribute....then it just stopped!
Because of advertising rules.
Thats OK....WCBC must have overstepped the mark on CIU. I understand that and accept it.
THEN.....Scott starts posting a direct advert with not even a hint at "discussion" and its left for all to see and respond with not so much as a 'by your leave' from the MODS??
It stinks >:(
-
Nah, I'm sick of this.
How do I report a poster to the MODS?
This topic should go the way of the WCBC thread.
Its advertising pure and simple, and should be put in its correct place (with revenue to CIU).....the adverts forum.

This thread was reported about 5 days ago, after you mentioned it on another forum... just to see if anything happened..
Guess what nothing happened.
CUI MODs and Admin just have something against the coach - pure and simple.
Scott, nothing against you in anyway, but we want clarity for all!
TBH, the admin/mods have no balls... they delete threads/posts without any reason given, they should edit the posts, and include their reasons as to why they modified it for future reference to all.. even if you have to delete the post, just edit it, delete the content and say
"MOD edit - post edited due to (insert reason)..."

The debate still goes on (cleaningpro) ::) and I agree with what you have said, if there is going to be rules, and in some cases there has to be some sort of order, then the rules should apply to everyone, unless there are midigating factors, when he first started his canvassing offer, it was limited to one or two cleaners in london, which I feel should be exempt from advertising fees.
But when you branch out into a full blown business, then fees need to be looked at.
If he does not want to pay, then there are other forums where he can trade.

Come on MODS -
Thats two members that have posted complaints to Forum Admin and still nothing happens?
Do I need to post a rude picture to get a response?
MODS - is this topic purely and simply and advert, or can you defend it as having any "discussion" merit?
You killed a topic stone dead that had over 20 pages of replies......what possible reason do you have to leave this tropic running?
Shame on you CIU :'(

Guys, I have just got back in to see where this thread has gone, and I'm flabbergasted. I had no idea I was doing wrong by posting here.
My apologies to all. I'm just a bloke trying to keep the wolf from the door whilst working on my career. I sincerely love life and love to see people get ahead, and don't get satisfaction from a free lunch.
I shall happily stop posting in this thread if it upsets anyone.
Total respect to you all, and I wish you the best ;-)

Hydro,
We've crossed swords once or twice before..... ;D
I sometimes havent agreed with your posts or your ideas.
....but it seems even we have reached an agreement that Scott is now falling into full blown ADVERTISING and this must surely need a ban/suspension pending advertising rates (subject to CIU rules)
Or maybe WCBC should be allowed back to defend his ideas.??
At least WCBC has the good grace to add to the overall discusssion of CIU....could Scott say the same?
Ban WCBC....no problem.
...but lets also ban Scott for flouting the same rules (to a bigger degree than WCBC if we're honest!)
Scott adds nothing to the debate - he's flogging a product.
-
carry on scotty.. do what you have been doing.
as said b4, its nothing against you in any way.
However, if admin/mods wer to follow their own rules, you would need to pay to advertise your services - in fact you would have just been banned straight off.
as you can see its a touchy subject, which is forcing members to go elsewhere for real advise among professionals.
-
david go on another forum and you willbe able to get more info of the coach has its a independant site ;)

Scotty
All respect you fella ;)
You're in the same position as the rest of us and you're working you're corner.
I have no problem with that.
WCBC was barred from CIU for daring to even mention his "services"....yet your posts are allowed to run and your "services" are far more blatant and offer no "discussion" - you seek to engage "work" pure and simple.
WCBC has a topic stretching to 23 pages (and over a thousand hits) but he was banned because it was deemed he was ADVERTISING
What we (the members of CIU) are asking for, is equality - if you are allowed to advertise your services ( which I have no intererst in) then why cant i read up on the ideas of WCBC?....Which I feel may be more benficial than yours (as they had more input from CIU members).
Did you pay to advertise your services on CIU?
....Or did you you just post them?
-
Great idea scotty ,
i used to be a canvasser and the one major problem i had seems to be the one thing that you have overlooked.
Employing good and reliable canvassers is difficult enough in the area that you are in never mind canvassers hundreds of miles away.
This was the the reason i stopped canvassing and built myself a round,
If you had a solution to this i too would be interested.
-
david go on another forum and you willbe able to get more info of the coach has its a independant site ;)
Ronnie,
I'm already there...as you know ;)
This just feels wrong to me.
If we have "rules" then lets stick by them....for everybody!
Lets discuss stuff...and if a poster is found to be a fraud isnt it better we expose him?
If he's found to be a bit clever....shouldnt we learn from him?
You know where I'm coming from ...I take it you've read my ideas on promotions and Kevins answers?
Between us all, I think we have a solid working idea ;)
I emailed my dad......he says no problems - He'll get back to you when he returns to the UK ;)

Who really cares what these moaners have to say...
I bet if they needed your services they wouldn't be grassing you up so loudly.
All moaners and grasses can now hit the reply button ::)

Sorry guys i am not aware of the wcbc story , if some one would like to bring me up to speed before i lock this post.
