Title: NOOOOOOOO Had my first van flood

Got in from work today and put van in the drive ready to fill tank for tomorrow,connected hose up to van tank and turned pump on my static system and van tank starts to fill,then got chatting to a mate outside my house then about 10 mins later heard water gushing  :o yep forgot all about it and water everywhere probably about 20 or 30 litres all in footwells but luckily it was coming through the drain holes so at least it was escaping,so i spent the next half hour mopping the rest up,oh well there`s worse things in life  ;D  ;)

Done that a few times.

But not recently since I fitted a gravity powered 3" bore transfer hose and I can put in a 100litres in less than a minute!

So I wait by the tank until it's full.

Malc how much lower would you say the top of your van tank is to the top of your IBC?

Im getting my van-mount in two weeks and have a tank round the back, but its a bit of a  trek from front ot back, so was wondering if using gravity to transfer how much difference in height you have there?

About 800mm. (It's a 600L IBC) The last 100L is a bit slower to drain and I'll stick another couple orf breeze blocks underneath at some point. It's the size of the pipe that speeds it up!

Do you siphon it out the top of the IBC (if you do, how do you get it to start siphoning) or let it flow out the bottom hole?

I have a 38mm transfer hose, that should move some water.

I don't have a tank anymore - i just use the van!


If you have a Despatch watch out for water getting trapped under the flooring in the cab - it's made of sponge with a plastic cover - it will never dry out once the water gets under it and you can't whip it out to mop up.
