Hi ,
We cleaned a 3 seater white sofa 3 weeks ago, they call me today and said that now the sofa is a bit yellow and they try to clean the sofa cushions covers on the washing machine and they are white again?
Anyone knows the best way to get back the rest of the sofa to the white colour.
Why did the sofa get this yellow colour?
Thanks

what did you use to clean and what to rinse?
derek
-
we have used only Nemesis Super for both
-
Oxy buff mix
Shaun
See Prochem or do a search on here
-
do you mean Fibrebuff + Oxibrite ?
Does the prochem Browning Prescription do the job or not?
Thamks for the help
-
You have to be very careful with White upholstery, especially if its Cotton. You are best off cleaning with a suitable specific Cotton cleaner which is acidic and prevents browning problems.
You could try the Oxy-Buff or Browning prescription. Both or either should rectify it. Try and dry it quickly afterwards.
-
Haitian cotton cleaner from Chemspec would also be good.

she remove all the yellow from the cushions covers on the washing machine, so should i try only with water or not?
-
mix her washing powder in a bucket, sponge on then water extract.
use cfr and speed dry.
we did tests which included daz and the results were on a par with some top com chems.

Don't listen to Derek and don't just use water. It is the water that has caused the problem. You need an acidic rinse or detergent to clean it again.
-
JK is right but I personally think a pre treatment with a long dwell really brushing it in so as to work to its optimum level and then a dry vac off and then a light water only rinse with turbo driers aiding drying.

Derek. We have a ccompany up here who use Daz and Persil. Non of the suppliers will entertain them and they have ruined loads of carpets and suites. Don't go there ;)
-
only trying to help him out of a tricky situ.
if thats how she got it white then it makes sense to me.
not suggesting to do it that way all the time.
ffs.

The browning is caused by slow and uneven drying. Putting stuff in the washing and then drying either by hanging up or over radiators is how she got it out. That might not work on cushions where some of the moisture inevitively absorbs into the inter layer and even the foam meaning the surface fibre can take a while to dry out fully.
-
Derek with such little experience you should reframe from stupid comments like that.
THEY DONT HELP. :(
-
Derek
dont forget that Daz, Persil, etc have "bleaching" agents in them, that is why they bought out Daz COLOUR, Persil COLOUR.
If she has washed them in a Biological washing powder, because they are white,
when he has cleaned them as John and Shaun suggested there still could be a colour difference because they are "bleached"

fair point, if thats the case, i apologise for my naivity.

john steel
reframe or refrain?

cheers for the extra info

Daryl, you are quite right and I have seen it many times when they have been washing the seat covers in the washer and just having the frame cleaned. Even affects colours. Oxybrite and Roto Buff and Browning Prescription will also have a slight bleaching effect so should even things up.
-
ps....
i said use a cfr and speed dry, so i got some of it right, give me some credit j k. :)

amazing the amount of custy who wash the scatter cushions in their washing machine, I,m always prepared with the responce of " Please dont expect exactly the same results, as your powder more than likely contains a bleaching agent and/or colour enhancer "
Never had a grumble yet about the difference :-X
geoff
Hatian cotton cleaner, yes used it today on some pale cotton window seat cushions, good stuff

With respect mate, be careful what advice you give. ???
You are a "clean it up god " with over 1200 posts !
A newbie will believe anything that you say !

DAZ ! :o
-
good point chris.
i see my self as a newbie and most people know i am but for the untrained eye, i could be concieved as a carpet cleaning legend. ;D
seriously though, good point. i usually put...... "as a newbie i would blah blah" and allthough i forgot this time, i will continue to do so in future when giving my "so called" advice.
apologies to the original poster in case that suite has now disintergrated into a million pieces from the use of daz.
derek
ps... is it me that thinks my advice, (all be it wrong and i hold my hands up) is being slightly exagerated as to the concequences of taking it.
-
Derek, the consequences would probably be negligable. Its just there are prescribed methods for getting people out of a hole. There are a lot of cleaners on here, thousands, most never post but many will have suffered the same problems which crop up. Its only right that they are giving the best advice wouldn't you agree?
-
totally agree john, and ive held my hands up. i'm now just defending the unnessecary onslaught. its not like i told him to cut the yellow bits out with a knife. ffs.
mention daz and all hell breaks loose.

Do you reserve that for the kids? it'll not be for your wife I bet you can't remember the last time she was naughty :o
Shaun

my kids are never naughty, and my wife is never good, but thats why i married her ;D

He's tried ruffling a fair few feathers on here and elsewhere since he got banned back in the summer!
Hi Paul :)
-
I would use Chemspecs Haition cotton cleraner made up a little stonger, it gives dilution rates on the back of container for cottons that have browned
