Well, i had ice in the bottom of the tank which wouldve chilled it a bit and i didnt leave enough time to fill tank to the top, well half actually. It was hot to touch in the tank.
Got on the first job was cold, i was like :(
But then the next one i noticed the pole was warm, and the hot was coming outta the brush head, not boiling but it was hotter than warm. Must of taken a while to get through the hosereels.
Must say its a joy to use and stayed warm all day. Ive just bought some lagging so im going to lagg the tank this weekend then fill it to top with hot and it should last most of the day, its was still warm after 6 or so hours.
I can see why you guys go on about hot so much, those first few houses this morning were a joy...and yes it is quicker.
I know somedays i wont be able to do this as ill have some left in it, but its nice to see wht its like.
The reason i thought about doing it like this is because vv8edd an ionics guy said he only heats his up in the morning and it stays hot all day, and like i say it did last around 6 hours warm, if i could get it real warm it would stay hotter for longer, especially with the lagging.

I have an immersion in my ibc to heat the water before I transfer it. Works really well, and for a surprisingly long time as well even on a sub zero day like today. I had ice on the brush stock and angle adapter but the water flowed all day long. Plus hotter water just obliterates birds mess.

Im thinking getting a 12v element in tank, i asked someone on ebay who was selling them about heating a tank with one and he said no chance would a 12v element heat 650 litres, but it may maintain it. So get it hot in there, and maintain it ... should work.
Anyone seen any good 12v elements??
-
If you want to keep the heat, you were right first time. Insulation. Those small unite are silly really, there would also be an issue of where to plumb it. It would need to go in the bottom so it is fully submerged all the time, other wise it may burn out.

What about this?

Just have it on cig lighter and if it did drop just un plug???

The other advantage of a full tank of hot is that it'll act as a big radiator overnight and stop your van from freezing. Even if its only 20 deg C when you get home in the evening, a couple of hundred litres at that temp will be enough to do the job!
-
Yes the back of my van felt warm when onpening the doors nathan
Its a win win situation lol
-
i have a 250 litre tank that i fill in afternoon and put a heater in it from a aquatics place i bought for 30 quid. in the twelve hours before the next day it only heats it to around 20 degrees but then it is great on the first few jobs when it is cold.never put it in tank over xmas and still regretting it .
-
Matt, so did you fill from your houses hot water tap?
If so what about TDS? Is your tap water pretty good and just needs DI?
-
My tds out of tap is 050, so yeh, ok with just DI, yes outside hot water tap
-
Wow!! Good for you.
Lucky bugger ;D
That'll save you a few quid.
My tap-water in the past has tested as 270, I tested it this week and its up to 370 at the mo :o

What does anyone think about these

Just to maintain the heat
-
How would it be fitted?
Youd have to think of the connections etc and the water contact?

You would need large and expensive solar panels for the higher amperage models. Otherwise its a good idea. As said, insulation will keep the tank water warm for a long time- 6 hours.
-
Well its 12v so id just wap a cig lighter end on it or wire it in with a switch.
Thought about fitting to lid.
-
If it was fitted to the lid Matt what would happen when the tank was half empty?

Simon.
Simon,
What immersion heater do you use? Do you have a link?

Yeh not sure how long it is
Could do with it being as low as possible wouldnt it, jsut dont wanna be drilling my tank eek!!
-
Matt,i think 750 watts is probably the biggest you may get as it would zap too much power if any bigger ;)
-
matt these elements look good, to keep the water warm

In the summer time would it be possible to get enough heat using a couple of proper solar panels on roof of shed and heating ibc tank and then transferring water to van? Or would be too expensive to set up?
-
Hot water from the tap can in no way be compared to a hot water system, the way your doing it the temp is dropping by the second and will cool down even more when going through all hoses etc.To have proper hot water you need to heat it on demand, luke warm water for window cleaning is in no way the same as hot.
-
The kind of temp you`ll get from doing it that way will be less than hoses absorbing heat in the summer and making the water seem warm.
-
I see what your saying NWH, but in what way am i doing it any different to the ionics guys who just circulate the water back around and back into the tank for half an hour in the morning??
-

Depends how hot the water is going in, and how well insulated the tank is. Even if it is cooler, its still better than cold!
-
Im going to get one of those new TDS meters with Temp gauges on, ill tell you what temp it is in the tank.
When i put it in the other day, its the heat id be happy with habing a bath in lol!
-
The water coming out of my heater is often uncomfortably hot,.. but the time it gets through 100mtrs hose its a pleasant "bath" type heat.
In the winter though the water can be a lot cooler since I'm paranoid about cracking glass (not happened to me yet!) and I still find 20 degrees Celcius a huge difference from using cold & sometimes near frozen water.
-
anybody seen the element on the andrews water treatment website £250 or so i think
looks something like a washer part
-
Putting 40-60 degree water back in a 600ltr tank won`t make any difference luke warm maybe but in no way hot water window cleaning, you know when your using hot water cos the brush is steaming from hot water and the windows are misting up from the heat.To see the difference from cold you have to have constant hot water going through the hose at a constant temp at least 40 degrees.
-
The main idea of a frost stat is to circulate water so there`s no freezing in the pump or pipes it keeps everything above freezing it won`t heat the water enough to say your using hot water to clean windows.

Yes i see that bud, but like i say the Ionics guy circulates hot around the system in the morning for say 30 mins n thats it...so there isnt much diff in my opinion.
If your using it on demand yeh i see what your saying, but im pretty much doing what they do.
-
Putting water back into the tank is not done to heat it as it would take hours and hours to do it,my heater gets upto about 80 degrees before it`s ready to supply hot water to the reel.I then set the heater to give water of about 40 degrees in the cold weather like we had last week.

I dont know how it works, and im not saying ive got a hot system, far from it, but its a nice try, the water was steaming and the windows were getting condensation on them, got to say something?

I have this in m IBC storage tank and heat the water for 3-4 hours before I transfer it.

All i`m saying is it dosen`t really matter what the waters like when you put it in the tank,it`s such a vast amount it will cool very very quickly by the minute even if insulated. With a heater hot water is constantly being put through the hose at the same temp.

Yeh sure mate, im gonna get a temo gauge tommorow, will tell ya what it is in tank and at brush
and i know it wont be as good as proper hot system, but will do for now...
Egged me on to sort out hot system though!!
