I am thinking of a new leaflet, and I was wondering what offers, if any that you are doing in these quieter times?
I was perhaps thinking along the lines of , have your upholstery cleaned and we will clean the lounge for free! Or the smallest room above 3 rooms of cleaning for Free!
Or is there better wording for the above?
Thanks
-
Sorry but I'm sticking this out. No silly offers just a genuine quality service for the money.
I see various people on this and other forums offering buy one get one free and all that, yet their still not getting the jobs.
-
If it's good enough for B&Q it's good enough for me. ;)
-
Thats my thoughts as well Mike.
-
???

Benny i always have offers on.
Neil NOT silly offers Genuine Qaulity and Service offers that bring me a Good profit and makes customers VERY happy.

Aren't doing offers a integral part of being a switched on business? Look at the number of offers big firms use all of the time to generate new business so why not us.

if tesco can say every little helps
woolworths tried it
if its good enough for tesco it'll do me too
-
Benny , am sure Mr Halliday runs an offer along them lines
it most be working for him
was toying with the suite lounge free one myself

With the suite and free lounge carpet offer people often think your overcharging for the suite in the first place. Better to do something like have lounge clean and get extra room cleaned free. You could even offer pay for three seater and one chair get the second chair free. What the customer is saving by taking the offer is what is important as it is the saving they are making that stirs them into ringing you. Thats how i see it anyway.

Ricky thats one of mine or should i say Mikes it works well as does free stain guard or 3 rooms smallest comes free.

Might they think you overcharging for the lounge carpet cleaned in the first place?
-
When you buy a product from Tesco that is on special at BUY ONE GET ONE FREE! Do you feel like you have always paid to much for that product in the past?
-
when a customers see this offer ....have your suite cleaned and we'll clean your living room for free
they might think its a con and the price is just added onto the original price, the same with any offer, people might think there is a catch,
but all it takes is an explanation why the offer is given, I'm honest and tell them the reason I will clean the livingroom for free is if I'm not cleaning the livingroom I'll have to cover the floor with dust sheet and be careful not to over spray while cleaning......it's actually easier & quicker for me to clean the carpet when I finish the suite than not.
and the machine is already set up it is'nt that much trouble to clean the living room. Although they only get a livingroom max size 12x14 not a full through lounge
people are not stupid, just tell why the specail offer is given and they will be believe it
-
Mike
you must clean like lightning as it only takes a few seconds to put down a sheet but around 45 mins to clean a lounge carpet. These things only really work if you have a published price list so people can see what they would have paid if the item were not free and so attach a value to your offer so they can say i saved £50 its not the offer that attracts them it's the saving.

Colin,
If Mike says it works it does, He uses his offers all year and it does bring in business because I use them aswell.
Cheers
Neil

Your spot on with that Colin. I know what I think when I see offers like that with no price to start with for various services.
What am I saving?
Bet he's just upped the price on the item on offer.

COLIN & JOHN it works just try it i have for the last 12 months. If the customers are happy i'm happy JOB DONE

I started offering 'Get your friend or Neighbour to have their carpets cleaned at the same time and ill give you both a 25% discount'
This is really doing well.
-
We do leaflets all the time and must have done millions over the years and the ones that do the best have prices on them and then says call us for our special offers. When they ring they already know the price for the suite so you can say if you have it done next week we'll clean your lounge carpet free. Thtas a lot more powerful a tool than just saying we charge £xx to clean your suite but you get your lounge carpet cleaned free which sounds too much like a set up.

Never put prices on anything because you will only attract the people that want to pay that price, The only time to put prices on anything is if you dont go out and quote. How can you have a fixed price for upholstery some take 2 hrs t clean and others can take 5-6 depending on condition and size.
Not knocking it but this is not my approach but horses for courses.

Neil ;D

3 rooms for £99, ring any website bells.
you naughty boy ;D
only joking mate, i don't put prices on leaflets either, why? because i go out and quote, why do i do that? because so far a lounge diner has taken me from 35 mins to 2 hours to clean, same price? i dont think so.

Sorry I was talking Upholstery 3 for £99 gets you in the door but my comments were ment for Upholstery.
Colin
Do you only clean new Upholstery then colin, I have turned some real nightmares back to as good as new but i would not have done them for a price listed on a leaflet, to many if buts and maybe's for my liking, they pay for it but are always happy and it can take time to do it. Is it me or should they all take 2hrs to do ???
-
only joshing neil.

-
Sorry anything should have been Upholstery, my mistake.
-
Neil, i've been in the job for twenty years and have never had one that has taken anywhere near 5 -6 hours and i've done some mingers in my time. Good on you tho your ovbiously a thorough man.

One of cc's perennial problems.
You give a special offer because it's January.
You have to explain to the same customer that because it's December you don't get the same special offer!
-
I think someone on here had said that explaining the special offer was an off season discount was the way to sell it. The discount MUST be based on volume you can't offer % off 1 carpet it makes you non profitable.

Ok I give in and for the first time ever I'm going to try this get a suite cleaned get a room carpet cleaned free trick.
I know how many hits the web site gets and I know how many requests we get, so let's see if this works or not.
-
I do have a suite cleaned and protected and get a carpet cleaned for free, it yields about £190 a job.

£190 for suite and protection. How much if it's just clean only?

You say if Mike uses them they work
You use them but do they bring you that extra Suite Clean?
-
Yes they do work and i offer them at all times.
The new one i am trying is the 25% discount if you get a friend or neighbour to have cleaning on the same day, this is working very well and gets customers to talk about you.
cheers
neil
-
But Neil what about if you are booked up for that day and can't clean the neighbours etc...
IMHO this approach would defo tell the friends/neighbours that you had no other work on that day so were banking on them to give you the work.
Even if I wasnt booked up I wouldn't use this approach.
-
will
if i rang a plumber and asked when he could fit me in and he said, "ive got nothing on in 5 days time" i wouldn't think, "he's poo then"
just my opinion.

Sorry Derek you're going to have to decipher that one for me.
-
doesn't matter will.
just read your reply again and it doesn't quite say what i thought it did.
sorry chief, just ignore me.
but i still think the idea is a good one and will be using it in the near future, not quite sure of 25% though, 15% maybe, or 20% at a push.
apologies again will

No need to apologise mate. :)
We all make mistakes and misread things.
Me more so than most.
-
Its worked 4 times in 5 weeks when without the prompt it would probably not even of put this into the customers mind.
Only desperate people want cleaning tomorrow and they are normally rentals that dont care what their neigbours want.
-
Neil desperate people are good at filling wholes in your diary and also will pay what your rate is as you are in control, over the years I have had a few wanting tomorrow and if I can fit them in I will as if it's a small job it pays for the diesel for the week and that's the way I see it, most don't use you again but I have a lady who was desperate and I cleaned her a bedroom carpet for £75 albeit bigger than average and then she booked me for the rest of the house which was another £350 or so and she still uses me to this day.
Shaun
-
I would agree with Shaun.
If you have a "can-do" attitude it often pays to fit in those one-offs because as Shaun says it'll pay for a day's o/heads and it suits you as you often find it is (in my case) very near to another job and therefore there is no travel time.
Make the time and phone the next client to make sure they are ok if you arrive a little later than planned. Most clients are perfectly ok with this as all they want to know is that you haven't forgotten them and what time you will be turning up.
It then keeps the larger chunks of space in your diary free for bigger jobs.
And of course you can be pleasantly surprised when they do use you again.
-
Not saying that I dont do them as i would be crazy to turn them down. I am just pointing out that people that want the offer seem to be happy to book well in advance.
-
started my leaflet campaign today, took all the advice on board from the last thread, decided to pay my mate £30 a 1000, he left his house at 9.15 this morning, first leaflet through the door at 9.30, @ 1.45 he had posted 500 leaflets. he's a young lad, plays football, loves his ipod, and he got cracking. thats 8 hours for £30!
can't see him doing anymore and i don't blame him, luckily he's a mate so i know he'll tell me straight, if he wasn't a mate i could see him losing a few.
back to the drawing board.
derek
ps.... anyone who's paying less than that and isn't living in a terraced village, and its only your leaflet there delivering, you have been warned.
-
Derek
Least it gives us all an idea of how long it takes to do the 500 then :)
-
yeah clinton
these were all 3 bed semi's with medium lengh drives, say 1 to 2 cars long average.
got a call for a leather suite off one tonight, quoting tomorrow at 12.
derek
-
derek why not ask him how much he wants paying.
he might turn round and say £45, how about him working 4 hours a day but he helps you for 2 of them and then you both spend 2hrs lealfeting. the jobs will go quicker and 2 of you will find it easier to lealfet.
-
Come on Clinton you haven't got amnesia have you?
9.30am first one posted
1.45pm rang Derek to say he had done 500
4hr 15 mins
Luckily this thick bugger at this side of the pennines can count, that's why they make countdown here!!
Can I have a p please Carol?
-
Derek
Least it gives us all an idea of how long it takes to do the 500 then :)
60 mins in 1 hour.
Walking fast you can deliver 2 leaflets per min ( semi det )
120 per hour max
regards
Chris

Looking at Derek's deliverery stats I think you are spot on Chris although you know the homes you want to get into are the ones with the longer drives.
