Title: 3kw heater costs
Post by: billozz on January 06, 2009, 08:57:56 pm: i have now decided to put a 3kw heater ...the fan type.....in the van overnight to ensure it doesnt get frozen up again does anyone have any idea of the hourly cost for one of these

Post by: Darren70 on January 07, 2009, 02:03:39 am: I have just bought two 3kw fan heaters,one in shed ro and on in van and the fans thermostat/frost protection turns on /off so it shouldnt freeze but the fans dont run all the time but keep it at low temp. Ill find out in the morning if its worked.

or you will fry the cable.

A hairdrier on half heat (750w/3amp) will work fine for a quick blast in the morning, but as mentioned oil filled/panel 200/400w overnight is best.

So your looking at about 72p an hour, if you leave it on 10 hours it could cost £7.20. Pricy but if it means you can then earn not a bad idea. Oil filled radsbare a good idea better output without using so much electric.

Post by: mlscontractcleaner on January 07, 2009, 02:12:34 pm: I had the same idea about buying a fan heater but the guy at B&Q warned me against it and said he wouldn't want to keep one running all night in a van.

Instead I bought a 200W Frost Protection Heater foraround a tenner. They're designed for hanging on the wall in sheds, garages, etc and it's pretty hot. It's actually designed to prevent frozen pipes so I'm hoping it'll work in the van.

Also, I connected my battery his morning to see if water was flowing and left it connected for only ten / fifteen minutes but there waqs a burning smell in my van and I think my pumps buggered. I love winter don't you.

I'm assuming a new one is easy enough to fit isn't it ??? ??? ???
