Hmmmm

Got a phone call from a customer today... A £45 every 8 weeks customer... Kung Fu Cleaning canvassed the area and undercut me by £20!!!

Because the customer is feeling the pinch at the moment (in the building trade) they are now going to use them.

How long will they last doing it at £20.00 less, unless of course your well over pricing ;D

Thats what I was thinking!

No its not overpriced at all... Very big 3 storey house with a big conservatory.

The thing is... The customer is really nice, and I could tell on the phone she was upset about having to let me down, and I can see things from her point of view.

But, undercutters really annoy me! However, maybe they didn't know my price first.

Thats all a little bit frightening.

Perhaps they can do it at that price because they work as fast as lightening?

Ring them up and ask to talk to the big boss.

Very sorry about that, just couldn't resist. won't be the last of this type of thing, just hope they don't survive the cold spell.

We had the same thing with 'The Bin Cleaning Company' although I think they used a different name for their window cleaning side.
First thoughts were 'War' which quickly changed to 'You do all that for half our price if you're that desperate.'

Andy, they are from Dorking way I believe, I was already quite surprised to see them all the way up in the guildford/shalford/chilworth area, but farnham, that's quite a way for them. I believe they are quite new, seem to be making a bit of a splash advertising wise, I got their leaflet thru their door as well, and I'm about 35min away from Dorking.

Kungfu Edit :

They are from Nutfield? Whoa, that's even further away, makes me wonder what the heck they are doing all the way up here. I got their leaflet 33 miles from them, can't be very profitable for them to come all the way to Farnham and Guildford area. Maybe for commercial okay, but half the price of your work? And some domestics? Hmm...

may be your charging to much extra for 8 weekly clean than 4 weekly ..be honest it doesnt take that much longer....what would you have charged  4 weekly?

Redhill and Reigate, more or less the same town as they are right next to each other just 2-3 miles outside Dorking,I'm in the next town which is Leatherhead, mind you I have work in Merrow and Guildford and Redhill is probobly closer to Guildford than I am and still Guildford is not far from me!
I'll give them Kung Fu if they take any of my jobs! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D ;)

Yes they have been canvassing heavily in my areas , Redhill, Reigate and Dorking and they have been quoting well under reasonable prices to my customer base , they were quoting my £20 jobs at £12 and ive lost a couple to them , i know someone else locally to me who has lost a couple of jobs to them £25 jobs they are doing for £12, one of which he got back as they didnt turn up!

Yes.  They have made a name for themselves in the area as intentional undercutters.  They canvassed Smallfield where I have some work.  The work I have in a road they tried is old work and a bit underpriced so I got away with it.  I heard they quoted £12 when I was charging £10.  Really, £12 - £13 is a more realistic price but I've left the prices alone for ages because it's a pretty compact part of my round and I still do OK from it.  Now that the custies know what others might be charging, maybe it's time for a small increase in that road.
Companies like that are bad news IMO.  There's no need to undercut.  They go out of their way to sell on price.  I anticipate a lot more of this in the future.

If their website is to be believed, they must have several vans and lots of employees to cover the vast area they claim to be operating in.

We all know the problems with lots of employees in this industry, quality control is a nightmare, as is reliability, punctuality etc.

If they are charging such silly prices across the board, they must be paying their employees peanuts, and that can only lead one way.

They seem to be embarking on a massive and rapid expansion plan, with enough capital input anyone can do this, and make a very big impression.

Maintaining the quality and reliability of the service is another aspect altogether.

Trying to do it on minimal prices and margins will prove very difficult indeed.

If they succeed and prosper, then good luck to them but I very much doubt it.

Well the £12 they quoted to one of my current custies is doable but you would need other work in the immediate area to make it worthwhile.  I amable to do it for £10 but only because I have a number of them.  If I was starting from my current prices as a base with no work close by, I would be looking for £13 - £15.

All my customers are atleast 8 weekly... I don't do 4 weekly cleans. The £25 Kung Fu Cleaning have quoted is also for 8 weekly!

Their web address and limited company has only been setup since June 2008. But, there website says they have 6 years window cleaning experience. They seem very inexperienced with their pricing so I doubt it is true!

I'm surprised that a newbie hasn't come up with the idea of offering 3 monthly cleans for the same or lower prices and just leaflet everywhere in their vacinity to start and fill a round.

How well do you trust your customers now some of them are worrying about job cuts with more doom & gloom to hit the news making customers twitchy.

I would say that the majority of my domestics would love it if I only came round every 3 months. As long as they have a window cleaner that comes round when the windows are dirty, they would be happy.
Now if someone sets himselfe up on a cleaning by appointment business he could make a killing.
Dial a clean would go down really well with most people. No good for us though.
