When using an L5 heater hot water TDS reading was 12-15,i now use a Varitech heater with stainless steel heat exchanger and the water even at it`s steaming hottest is 000.That say`s something about the internal workings of the L5 to me. :-X
-
my L5 tds isoooooooooo
-
L5 TDS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
I SAY OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Mine never was it was only when i changed to a different hot system my tds went to 000.
-
nwh
and all you other greenhorns. Remember on frosty mornings be carefull. It's thermal shock or temp diff that hurts.
Go steady and you won't give the rest of us a bad name.
Remember,on frosty mornings think.
-
The way the weather is at the moment i have it on just above minimum with no problems at all,it`s only for the first couple of hours i find you need to watch it.
-
my morco d51b is 000 at 40°c
-
When i was using the L5 it was never 000 the lowest it got was about 12ppm,you do realise with these DIY heaters and this cold weather you can easily get a cracked gas pipe and we all know what can happen then. :P
-
why would you get a cracked gas pipe?
a cracked water pipe or heat exchanger I could understand
-
Someone on here the other day said on inspection they had a cracked gas pipe i thought it might have been water or next to the gas, either way it`s madness having that in the van.
-
My TDS is 000,... so is my dads,... and a mate of mine,... all 3 of use use the L5 heater. Don't know what you were doing wrong NWH!!
:)
-
jeez nathan, you've really got scared about this in the last few weeks.
going back a few months you were praising gas heaters up and I for one (and many more i'm sure) have fitted gas heaters in their vans, spurred on by your successes. now it's "madness" to have one fitted??
mine's staying where it is, I think you're worrying too much mate
-
Is he on varitech's payroll do you think? The turn around from loving L5's to the "madness" having one in the van was suspiciously quick!
:)
-
I loved the L5 because it was hot water quick and cheap but quickly realised as you say it was stupid having a gas bottle in the back of a van connected up to a outside heater, yes madness it is not my words but firemans and others a like.I didn`t really look into the risks involved and there are risks with gas, after being warned of the risks i got a proper diesel heater that is designed for the job and is more importantly safe. Some of the work i do i was breaking H&S regs by having that in the van parked on site, sometimes i`m more than a 100mtrs from the van with it running so you could have said i was mad.It showed me hot is the only way as it has to many advantages not to have it,3k is nothing for peace of mind and hassle free hot water.
-
3k :o :o
I see where you are coming from...
why didn't you just fit you own eberspacher/webasto or similar for 1k ish as i'm sure you could have as you seem handy at diy?
although i'm earning more with hot water, i'm not rich enough yet to spend like that yet!
my next big spend will be a new or nearly new van
-
I honestly can't see how a properly installed gas cylinder is any more dangerous than a tank of highly flammable petrol or diesel in a vehicle? In a crash you'r more likely to rupture the fuel tank than damage the gas cylinder,.. especially if its correctly positioned.
-
Petrol tanks and fuel lines are inspected once year by a competent and qualified person ::)
-
nwh is def on sumert if fit write tank is safe as for ruptering gas pipe in heater is tosh it never cold enuf ,how many petrol tanks rust thue and leak in betwen MOT , how many pet line leak in betwen MOT , I THINK he got a DISCONT on his new set up to try do a hachet job on L5
-
To be honest I just cannot understand how some of you can be so lacking in foresight. :o
I give up.

Just remember-
What NWH loves this week, he hates the next! ;D
SL-2 - best pole on earth, then it was rubbish, sold it & bought an emporium. that was crap so he bought another sl-2! ;D
SL-X - Best pole bar none, he told us all it realy was something special ( after handling the prototype ) a facelift beater! He used it for 1 day then told us it was no good & the facelift was miles better! ;D
L5 - WOW, this baby's so good he ordered another TWO (why i don't know?)
and guess what, yep, It's now crap too! ;D
Oh, nearly forgot this one- "who needs a hot system when there's IPA?" the new antifreeze of wfp. cleans miles better etc. etc. ;D
So, just before anyone was thinking of letting go of 3k :o I'd wait a week or two! ;D
P.S. He also has a museum of barely used wfp items- bargain hunters! ;D
-
To write all that about me Tony only tells me what a complete twat you are mate, get a life.

Just a few facts my friend, nothing personal. It would only become personal if i had indeed followed your advice & wasted all my money ;D
Cheer up ;)
-
You can buy mine anyone if your interested still in box with a filler part so you can fill it at petrol stations,£150. ;D
-
i'd might interested in the filler thingy. can you still replace the bottle OR fill it up?

OOOOOOOOO wasn`t it funny thing really Matt i was expecting a sarcastic reply from you,you seem to aviod some threads where certain people are doing ok,better stick to the old DIY mate.

Dave Turley
you are the first one to use a morco. Congrats on that. I've been waiting for someone to do this.
What ignition system is it? how is getting on? have you a pic in situ?
-
hi discount, no pic at the min, but no different to the others. mine's a pilot flame model, i'd probably fit a spark ignition next time though.
it cost me about £170. if I had to buy another heater i'd spend about £300 for a proper good one like in my static caravan (that was £400 for a combi boiler).
-
I think you've gotten hold of the right heater. The pilot light is more reliable and has other uses.
Am i right in thinking the combi would have a powered flu and a higher minimum flo?
Simplicity is the key and i think that's what you've got. This thread(about tds) is a bit baffleing to me as part of the simplicity proposition involves not having a di on the van.
If you haven't got a bypass back to tank put one in. Other than that your system will run trouble free for years and probably because you are a caravaner you have escaped a mistake purchase(L5).

A mistake purchase the L5,why`s that then.

I'm glad someones proven that a morco works. I have a rinnai 54eu.
The L5 issues will become apparent soon enough.
