hi thinking of getting diesel heater does anyone else use one what are the pros & cons, thanks paul

I have just got the new Varitech Thermo 1 diesel heater,i`ve had it installed last friday but am getting it finished on wednesday as they couldn`t complete it on time.It`s a very pro looking unit it`s basically the same as the Thermopure from ionic and it`s webasto so it should be bullet proof.

It`s not listed on there website yet but i think it`s www.varitech.co.uk and it`s Mike you need to speak to but he`s now off till the new year,you will need a garage or similar to fit it for you as holes need to be drilled in floor etc.

I had one fitted at waterfed pole systems in Grantham. Had a blower fitted for cab and back of the van with a probe, so when it gets to freezing it cuts in to keep the frost off.

That`s the frost stat option that comes with the unit as an option,i will say that the unit does need to have 2 runners made for the unit to stand on and then be bolted through the floor.The place who are doing mine i know them and they made up 1 for each end for it to stand on,if you bolt it straight to the floor it won`t be level as van floors have ridges on them.It will take them longer than they first think aswell,so far they have given it 4 hours and will need another 2 on wednesday.It`s not just a case of bolting it in and away you go you have to plan where holes can be drilled as each van is different.

Thats it make sure its fitted properly.
Hoses that go through the floor should also have a metal flange round them, and the exhust should go out to the drivers side, better to the rear. I had a new set up so mine is fitted into a cage that i had made bolted to my skid tank.
You can get some good info about webasto from diesco in Ipswich.
There are lots of options, i went for the bigger KW heater as i run 2 hoses from it. I also had a timer fitted, but if you have a frost protection on it, then you probably wont need it.

Mine comes with a 2 man option,you just have another temp adjuster and another outlet.

I must also say that the heater i have although looks the biz is heavy,you know it`s there but it will be constant hot water with no flame to keep on going out and safe that`s the main thing.

When i was looking for another new hot system, i looked at the gas version from concept. Although a great looking and working system, i just preferred the ease of diesel.

Unlimited hot water with the link up to the diesel tank on the van that`s why i prefered it in the end,as long as you have diesel in the vehicle you have hot water.

£2200 + vat plus fitting...... That is JUST for converting your current system from cold to hot.....

If you are handy and have the time, you can buy the webasto and all the kit to do it yourself.

Yeah right i wouldn`t even attempt it lol,i was there when they were doing it for part of the time and it took 2 engineers that new what they were doing beleive me,it`s not a DIY project if you ask me there`s far more to it than meets the eye if you want it to work properly.When you look at the heater in the van it just looks like an upright stainless steel box,all the work is under the vehicle and requires a hydralic lift to be done right.

It can be done if you are handy, and have some electrical experience. It comes with all the instructions and you get advice on the end of the phone. But, i dont have any patience and it was easier to have it all fitted. In theory if its an add on, you could get all the kit and get a truck fitter/boat marina to install it.

I have the Thermo 90 S. From both hoses i dont know, but before hoses according to the digital temp it can get up 83ish.

If your running 2 poles from it you more than likely get about 30 degrees at each brush or so i`ve been told,what`s it cost you to run a week.

I will check to see what the temp is now, i know its hot ha ha.
The cost to run i have no idea really? I just fill the van tank up. But if running all day its supposed to be about £5-£7.

Nothing is it lol,with the gas i was worried after a week that i would run out and more often than not did.You then have the hassle of changing the bottle and all that,after i used hot water i didn`t worry about the expense of the heater as i find it so much better with hot.

It uses minimal amount of diesel to run the heater,you would have to pull up at a job with the fuel light on lol.
