cheers guys.

matt yes i'd love to be an immergrant. one that works hard and and pays taxes and provides to the country. not like ours that sponge and steal from others to save them having to break a sweat. australia being a land of prisoners is like people saying all brits have bad teeth!

from what i know of australia i'd like to live in perth i think its a good mix if country and city.

ive looked up on google and found a company that sells franchisins so there must be a call for it.  ;D

Lots go that route but you`ll need to go over there for a month or so and see for yourself, you see what they do on the programmes they go over there and then go back again to see if they feel the same,it`s a big step if you choose to go but i know how you feel it`s like being a abroad in this country sometimes.

Can you emigrate to australia as window cleaner?... i know its a business and thats what counts , but i looked on the list of trades accepted , and cleaners or window cleaners were not there,

i dont know, maybe its just for employees , that list....and the business owner can emigrate.

NI wouldnt be far enough away for me. in honesty there arnt many immergrants where i live in bournemouth but there are more and more very season so it wont be long b4 they start goning that little further.

it makes me laugh how these people travile hundreds of miles across so many beautiful countrys to get her for the free ride! if they just wanted a safe place to live surely they would settle in france, beljum, germany holland, etc etc!

my wife is a vet nurse but surprisingly they arnt required either.

either way i'm sure i could find a way. i once heard that ex british army are automaticly granted visa's how much of this is true i dont know??

We have a family holiday home in Melbourne, when I was last there I canvassed and delivered approx 2000 leaflets in and around Frankston, Frankston North and Carrum Downs to see what I'd get. Not one call.

Spoke to a friend of ours who is Ozzy and they have theirs cleaned every 6 months, inside and out, and all window screens cleaned too for $80 AUS. A large bungalow with 12 - 15 medium sized windows all reachable without a ladder! Most of the properties I canvassed were bungalows so I guess they pretty much do them themselves.

I spoke to a window cleaner who cleaned in Frankston town but he only cleaned shops, and that was an extra income as he did something else part-time.

Hope this helps.

I lived in Perth,western australia,for a long time.
All my family live in and around the ballajura district (look on google earth),they have been there for nearly 20 years now.
Perth metropolitan area does have window cleaners (a welsh wc is very busy, cant remeber his name but he is on google),they dont have rounds like we do over here, they do 3 - 6 month cleans on residential, but usually do in and out and also clean all the flyscreens (a must in WESTERN AUSTRALIA...those flies really get on yer nerves).
There are commercial cleaners there as well, one of the biggest in Perth is owned by one of the australian cricketers..cant be that good if he still cleans windows ;D
I have two mates there who started a residential wc round a few years ago,and they had to diversify into general maintanance and pool cleaning.
Also gutter cleaning is quiet lucrative, especially in the areas up in the hills...kalamunda,mundaring,john forest areas etc.
I have seen a firm cleaning gutters with a guttervac type of thingy....which glyn howard reckons he invented... :D
Migration is very strict, and unless you or the wife have some kind of trade qualification or a degree (not in window cleaning though  ;D) you will find it very tough to get accepted. Also if you are over the age of 45 you will not be accepted if you are the applicant, although if your spouse is under that age you may still be granted residency.
All in all Perth is a great place to live and work, loads of sunshine, great beaches,a fantastic casino (where i allways loose loads of money)....
Do yourself a favour if you are thinking of applying,go through a registered migration consultant that is affiliated with the Australian migration dept......visit the online site and take the test points to see if you qualify...you may do and then you can proceed further.
If you want to know anything else if i can help i will.
 ;)

Polewash, who mainly posts on the non cleaning related board is from Perth. Mail him to find out what its like at the moment out there. I know a friend of mine was looking to go with his girlfriend, its still done on a points system and its alot harder to now than it was a few years ago.

Thats true, i know they have tightened the laws.... they saw what was happening across europe and decided to close the shop virtually.

They had the right idea.

and that is not a slur on hard working immigrants.

Just non workers...... that country didnt want them.... but for some reason our government likes giving tax payers money away .. and welcomes them . ;)

Looked into it in quite some depth to the point of speaking to immergration and fellow window cleaners out there. !st theres no way you get out there being a window cleaner unless you can proof you've turned over some stupid amount like 250k pa, But 2nd there is tones of work out there which is a real shame.

I think you really need to think this through, do a lot of research, discuss everything .. with all your family and friends,

take all their advice on board, then start looking at your potential,

then ask yourself  lots and ots of questions , will you get home sick, will you adapt?.... will you be a success in a strange foreign land?

will you miss the great British Weather?

personally, i would make a point of holidaying in the country i would most like to live..... and go for one month.

That would decide it for me.

if i liked what i saw and felt in that month, i would  take further steps, but not drastic ones...

feel your way through....

If you go, where ever you go, don't burn your bridges so you can't return. My friend Gordon has a place in Spain which he has had for years but has never lived there full time.

He always says that most Brits who go out there to live end up returning back to Britain after a few years but a growing number get trapped out there because they can't sell up or their places are now worth so much less than they paid for them.

Hi  Dean and all on here.

I live in Perth and I'm not doing window cleaning. I was going to when I joined this forum but had a few health issues and decided not to. I am in the service industry Satellite TV so it still involves climbing ladders etc  ;D ;D. Its a good forum and I like to see what the guys are getting up to.

I travel quite a bit around Perth and see very few window cleaners. The ones I do see are in crummy old vans or estate cars and don't look very professional. There is one fairly large house close to where I live that I've seen a WC at a few times. He uses  a trailer and has a huge DI unit in the back. By the way the water is very hard in Perth my TDS is over 400 from the tap. WC is not like the UK and it would be done more like  once or twice a year. There are now lots of 2 storey houses and I think WFP but work well apart from the fly screens. The other thing is the weather gets very hot between November and April up to 40C+. I'm not sure how WFP goes in really hot conditions. I'm a bit sorry I'm too old to give it a serious go. I'm only 49 but have a lot of pains in back, neck, hands etc. Oh to be 10 years younger.

On migrating out here as a WC I think it would be impossible. You would need a spouse with a very much sought after job and you just tag along. Plus it  take ages to get it all through.  The economy is just slowing down here now but we are much better off than other parts of the world. We moved here 20 years ago from Ireland and Perth is a great place to live. My wife is an accountant and we came out on her qualifications and even then it took 15 months for the visas to come through. I see from one of your later posts you have changed your mind and are looking at France  ;D.

One thing about Australia is that its a long way to travel to and from. You just can't go back home for the weekend. Its quite cheap to live here but house prices have jumped by about double in the past 5 years. If any of you guys are looking for jobs etc in OZ. Have a look at this site and see what's available. I don't think you will find many for WC's. ::) ::) www.seek.com.au

Hi

I live near Karrinyup, only 5 mins from the beach. I know Ballajura, haven't been there much work wise as they have cable in that part of Ballajura not satellite. Its nice around the lakes. I like the Hills area, just a bit of a worry with the bush fires. Very cold summer so far, we even had rain today. I 'm off camping for Xmas down to Busselton, hope it warms up.

Did you like Perth. I wonder why you went back to UK???
