Title: deleting my account
Post by: alanwilson on December 04, 2008, 11:15:57 pm
I see no real point in coming on here anymore.

people like merson take the mick out of it - there's some good guys on the forum but for the most part its ruined by complete losers.

guys going on about how much they make but yet they drive around in old beat up vans and always ask where's the cheapest place to buy resin.

You always make good posts Alan and I agree very much with this one.

I think you are wrong to get wound up by window king though, all he's doing is a medley of all the nutters we have had on here.

You think you have it hard, look at what has gone on with the mods.Chin up mate.

I quite often think the same but there isn't any point in deleting your account,
I quite often just take a break from posting and there are a lot of others that do the same.
The thing is though the forum is great for keeping up with the latest developments and suppliers, so for me it wouldn't make sense business wise not to sign in occasionally.

Yeah, no point cutting ties, better to have and not use them.
Tomorrow's another day.

since suppliers are no longer allowed to post a pitch about their products or even link to them (for instance web design, trad wc supplies, wfp wc supplies, wc federations the list goes on, this forum has now become just a place for... chit chat and advice among many.

Suppliers are too scared to even post now "just" encase they go too far about giving advice on their own products..

WHY?

cos this forum is run by a cleaning supplies firm, and they believe any sales is in direct competition with them, so they ban the suppliers.

So perhaps time to find a new independent forum for "keeping up with the latest developments and suppliers" as you put it.

Even on an independent forum there are very very strict rules concerning suppliers, and the definition of advertising. I see nothing wrong with that on this forum, perfectly acceptable rules.

I come here now and then, not really often anymore for that very reason. If I want to chit chat I do it somewhere else. If I need professional advice, I ask people on here. It shouldn't be the other way around.

There's no point deleting your account. You'll only come back to it eventually in time. Most other forums post on the same subjects with more or less the same replies. Some posters on here even post the same questions on other forums, think it's a popoularity contest sometimes.
I've thought about deleting my account sometimes and totally ignore the forums altogether, BUT 'knowledge is wealth' and this forum has the most members and is the most active so some days I just come on and have a quick read and off again to catch up on my social life. I spend too long on here sometimes and find it too addictive. It's good to have a break away from here. The wind up merchants do spoil it for others and when they're on, I give this forum a miss for a few days  so that I won't say something I may regret. Don't let the bad ones spoil it for the good guys. It's a good useful site and should remain that way with good moderators keeping an eye on certain individuals to keep it sensible. I praise the Mods for trying to maintain decent standards on here.

And its growing in numbers, and a lot of helpful info :D with a distinct lack of "guys going on about how much they make but yet they drive around in old beat up vans and always ask where's the cheapest place to buy resin." posts :D

There's two posts on this page, both from members threatening to delete their accounts; and I see Wayne Thomas actually has deleted his account?

What's going on?

Do you think anyone will really care if you delete your account?  Does anyone remember Steve K?  He did it about three times, mostly when someone made a joke about Liverpool, yet the World still turned and he reapeared at a later date after each hissy fit.

So my point is, if you disagree with a member's post, argue your point - politely - below the post that you have a problem with.

Therefore, don't be a 'girl' and theaten to delete your membership; no-one will really give a 'monkey' if you do or not!

Some people have something of value to share,

Yes, but unfortunately, YOU are not one of them.

Where the ruddy heck is your taxi?

no I'm not going to.

I did think about it last night.

when I started on this forum it was based mainly on business and wc matters, now it just seems to be drivel.

but I'm sticking about.

Tosh - you missed the point, I don't care if anyone else cares I'm just saying that most of the time now there's no point coming on here other than to waste some time

Wrong, it's always been like it is now; just when it started it wasn't as busy.

I should know, I'm an ex mod here.

Most posts always start off ON TOPIC, then end up OFF TOPIC.  It's the way the forum always has been.  Philip Hanson (the mod I took over from) tried to keep it on the straight and narrow with no off-topic chat, but that didn't last long and he spent more time arguing with members than discussing window cleaning stuff.

I remember going through his 'pre-mod' back posts and posting all his 'off topic' chat that he'd posted up; just to wind him up.  ;D
