IPA helps a little,.. but not much. -3 last friday and my system froze with 500mls IPA in a 400 litre tank. You need huge amounts before it'll be really effective.
You can buy it cheap on ebay.

went to do a gutter vac clean first thing, dunno why i bothered, the gutter was full of water and moss and it was frozen solid. As i went to bed it was raining hard! it froze overnight...
Had to sack the gutter clean off, no point trying to ladder and bucket it as its was literally solid, wouldn;t budge, and i didnt want to have to replace sections of guttering if i broke it.
Hopefully it should warm up a bit or at least rain and not freeze in a few days time.
Will have my hot system ready at the weekend, so i could melt the ice next time :P

If your happy to use ladders I found gutter cleaning easier when the contents of the gutter were frozen. I used a fork (the kind you eat dinner with) to lever out gutter contents. No goey mess, just comes out in big frozen chunks and does a better job and is quicker because everything comes out in nice frozen chunks.
This is not the sort of work I look for but definitely found it easier when frozen!

definatly easier when frozen, i use a flat utility bar , ( same as i used when i fitted fascia / guttering) i use it to lever it out , once you get the first bit out , its easy ,
and takes half the time.
