Just been to van expecting to find it the only vehicle in the street not to be covered in ice.
Put 500w mini rad in it last night set on number 1 next to the tank and just 1 ft to left and below pump.
Got to van this morn and all frozen up outside, opened the door and all frozen up inside pipes, pump everything, heater warm but not too warm, perhaps it needs to be on full, but surely this would be expensive in the long run.
500 watts for 10 hrs =5kw for 1 hour=55pence or 5.5 pence per hour on full, hardly gonna break the bank but the leccy board will be rubbing their hands together.
after working out those figures I think I will have on full tonight, still might not be enough for a Trafic sized van though'

Where are you getting you electricity from that seems seriously expensive, I'm sure mine is only about 25p.
Simon.

I have actually no idea how much we pay per kwh, just went on google for average price and it came up with 11p per kwh.

I guess if it was flat out for 10 hours on a 55p kwh (or 25p) and cost you £5.50, you need to ask yourself will it cost me more or less than £5.50 if my van freezes. Another idea would be to put it on a timer switch to come on a couple of hours before you start work. I have one in my shed to stop the RO from freezing.

I have had a gas boat heater in the truck all night on low setting.
Everything frost free!!

I prefer a fan heater cos it circulates the air around the van

NOoooo 500w at 5.5p per hour x 10 hrs = 55pence total for the night

Put a gas heater in van last night , temp dropped to -5 , this morning came out to a frost free van , brill , then noticed a small drip leak from external inlet port had formed an 8inch upside down icicle on the floor , i thought it looked great , Sad or what !

Van is under a car port and is ply lined so dont normally have a problem with freezing.. however my large tele pole thats in the roof carrier was frozen up - had to leave it in the sun against a house for 10 mins to let it thaw out.. couldn;t leave it on the floor as it would have frozen even more..
Must get my L5 heater fixed up so i can not having anymore freezing issues.
