FOUR teenagers who set upon an innocent window cleaner “like a pack of animals” have today been jailed for a total of 11 years.
Judge Norman Wright blasted the gang as he sent them to prison after being told they attacked Ian Dewhurst simply because he had the “misfortune to walk past them”.
Mr Dewhurst’s teeth were kicked out and he had several ribs broken.
After the yobs were sentenced, Mr Dewhurst said the punishment was “justice in some ways” but that he had been left in fear.
And a councillor who represents the area where the attack happened in Blackburn branded them “utter hooligans” who should be “ashamed of themselves”.
Preston Crown Court was told that Mr Dewhurst, 47, was attacked as he walked past the group, who were sat on a wall.
He had just bought some lager from an off licence in Granville Road, Blackburn.
The self-employed window cleaner, who lives off Preston New Road, had his teeth kicked out and several ribs broken during the incident on November 30, 2006.
Mr Dewhurst, who is also a full time carer for his disabled partner, was unable to work for several months and had to pay out over £700 to have his teeth replaced.
The four teenagers robbed him of just £10 which they spent in a takeaway after the attack.
The youths were caught by police following CCTV evidence. One of the youths was 14 at the time.
Two 16-year-old boys, who can’t be named for legal reasons, a 17-year-old boy, who also cannot be named, and Yasin Ali Khan, 18, of Preston New Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to robbery.
Ali Khan and the 17-year-old were sentenced to three years and two months.
One of the 16-year-olds was sentenced to two years and 11 months, while the other got two years and eight months.
All four were sent to youth detention after Judge Wright said that a community order or a detention and training order was not a suitable punishment for them.
The judge said: “On that evening Mr Dewhurst was going about his business.
“He bought some lager and outside the shop he had the misfortune of going past you and the other youths.
“He was attacked, punched to the ground and there were threats to kill him.
“All he had was £10. That was the fruits of your escapade.
“All of you were like a pack of animals, kicking a man on the ground.
“He suffered serious injuries but apart from the physical injuries there is also the psychological aspect.
“It is not surprising he is frightened to go out at night when he was attacked in this way.
“All of you should be thoroughly ashamed of your behaviour that night.”
Mr Dewhurst said: “The sentence the judge passed is justice in some ways.
“They have been shown this behaviour cannot carry on.
“This was the second time I was attacked in two weeks - who is to say there isn’t someone who will act in the same way as them?
“They have affected me in a psychological way but I am pleased with the sentence.”
Corporation Park ward councillor Abdul Rehman said: “This was an atrocious attack on an upstanding member of the community.
“What happened to this man was totally uncalled for and was nothing but utter hooliganism.
“The people responsible ought to be ashamed of themselves.
“I hope the sentences will give them time to reflect on their behaviour.”

...and people wonder why the BNP is getting more popular?
People are getting less racially tolerant every time there's another Asian attack.

Hang on there! dont make this a racist issue , it's a social issue brought about by many things but mainly the breakdown of the local community,
for example the guy was coming out of an offlicense instead of a pub , if it was a pub he had come out of i doubt wether he would have being attacked due to the fact that the "scum" would have been worried that 1/ the guys mates would have come out to help him 2/ someone from the pub might have recognised them 3/ he probably wouldn't have been on his own.
I know that is not guarranted but it's probable. When i was a kid i couldn't get up to anything because everyone round my way knew each other through schools local shops local work local buses local pubs in short the local community, now days i hardley speak to anyone on my street because i never see them.
As an aside i travel to Spain a lot and in most cities and towns i can walk down the street at 1.30am past a group of youths and feel safe [ they still have local communities ] where can you do that in the UK.
PS Gary Newlove "lived" about a mile from me his murderers where "white"

I think you're both right, and wrong at the same time!
Love, it's all down to love... The lack of it,
"...for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness..." 2Tim3:2-4 (in part)
Sound familiar? :o ::) :P :'(

if i was him i wouldnt have even got the police involved at all, i have three sons all big lads and i have four nice iron bars, a short spell in prison will not teach low life scum such as these anything at all,its like a badge of honour to them.
its a very sad state of affairs that i should even have to consider returning violance with violance should anything like this happen to any member of my family "and it has",but the uk is such a violent place now, and prison terms such a joke,in no time at all these scumbags will be back out on the street and i have no doubt at all wasting no time in giving some other poor innocent person a beating,or worse.
and before anyone says you will only get your family in trouble i would add that you have to be sensible about it, no witnesses, right place right time.
am i talking from experience, yes. look after your family because no one else will these days.
oh go on,admit it arnt you all fed up to the back teeth of hearing and reading about scumbags like these hurting innocent people, sick to death of todays teens acting like some kind of mafia frightening old people so much they are affraid to leave their homes.
rant over, i feel better now ;D

What makes you different to them though then?? Everyone wants to repay violence for violence. where would that end?? Its a hard one because you dont seem to see justice in the courts, but repaying the same crimes is never a good idea, although it feels like it

lets just turn the other cheek shall we ::)
the justice systems a joke police have both hands tied behind their backs
its about time comunities took their streets back and if it takes intimidating
these scum bags so be it.
in the town i lived in years ago redditch, worcs there was a case of this
where a certain area dealers and prostitutes were running riot
police could nothing in the end it took the community it self to drive
these scum out.every night when these scumbags came into the area
50 -100 people would come out of their homes and harrass them they
tried to turn nasty a few times but the area was ready for it,at least
twenty guys at one time would come out all hooded carrying bats and
basically sorted them out it even made the news
it took several weeks but in the end they couldnt stand the hassle
and moved on if every community area would have the same balls it
wouldnt take long to change it.
it keeps happening because we let and we are the only ones who
can stop it not the police not the justice system but communities
themselves not sitting there and tolerating it >:(

Sorry............I'm with Rugby on this one..........God only knows what i'd do if this happened to someone i love. I tell ya what i wouldn't do..........and that's let the justice system deal with it. I'd sooner they deal with me for sortin it my way.

well in my many years dealing with violence on the doors the only thing that makes them understand is violence its a sad fact but a fact.

the system is failing everyone because it it is too soft.
i worked as a doorman for 15 years and packed it in 4 years ago due to the way the police are favouring the trouble makers when i first started you never trapped off to a doorman when i finished it was standard every weekend (as long as they thought they were in front of cameras).
another example: i was burgled and found out who was responsible i found one that night , he then moved away after i dealt with him.
i found the other one at his workplace the next day and knocked him out there and informed his collegues id be back daily untill i was paid money to make up for the stolen goods.
i was then called in by the police because the tough burgler was scared, fortunately i knew the skipper who cautioned me and on the way out told me to make sure there was no witnesses next time!
i got paid using violence i would not have seen a bean had i used the system.
we now have 3rd generation mongrels breeding and living on the social thinking that its ok never to work ,unless something like forcing them to pick up litter for their money is done things will get worse.
the reality is that you cannot rely on the system, and the only thing they respect is that if they do cross you they are made to wish they didnt.
its embarrassing how our country has gone from the envy of the world to the joke it is today

I have every sympathy for the poor guy, and I'm pleased that the Judge did his job, no slap on the wrist for that lot.
Ah, how I long for the good old days back in the 1950's, no hoodies hanging round on street corners.
No self respecting Teddy boy would be seen dead in a hoodie, it would mess up his quiff for a start.
I can still see my grandad laughing at the new drain pipe trousers I had on, with my size 12 feet I had a hell of a job getting them on. Those crepe sued shoes were the dogs man, they made you an inch taller.
The harder guys allegedly carried cut throat razors, although I never actually saw one.
It all changed in the 70's when flares came in, my size 12 were partially hidden too.
Mods and rockers terrified old people in our holiday resorts, gangs of long haired louts chasing each other through the streets, the rockers allegedly carrying bike chains, although I never actually saw one.
My how times have changed.

I've seen plenty of violence in my youth.
I once had to fight for my life or I wouldn't be here today.
I was stabbed by a group of young men. The only thought going through my head at the time was that if my time was up and I was going to meet my maker, I wasn't going to die alone, I was going to take one of them with me as I had one them in a stranglelock as I was choking them to death whilst being stabbed in my legs.
Some youngsters today are ruthless and violent and need a dose of their own medicine, not a slap on the wrists, the justice system is a joke that needs to be changed for the better of victims.

I AGREE with squeaky,
although there are numptys all over the place now & we SHOULD NOT tolerate it.
I had my garage broken into for 4 nights over a 1 week period, everytime around 4 in the morning.
I had told 2 of my mates who live in same street, and on the 4th night we caught him, RESULT , it was a pleasure to be awake that night ,although he wished he'd not come back believe me, CARNAGE.
The only good thing that happened for him & me,was my 3rd maste wasnt there otherwise i would proberbly be inside because my best mate is major league & would have seriously damaged him.
Thank god he wasnt there to be honest, ;)

Theres a lot of replies advocating voilent retribution which is understandable, i've got 4 kids and i found that at first a smack worked but they became inured to it so then i changed tack and if they did wrong i would look for something else to use to keep them in line .
A mate of mine used to get battered by his dad if he did anything wrong result he spent time inside for assult and you could smack him with an iron bar and it really didn't bother him, so in my mind [ he was a nice lad really but used to get off on violence ] that didn't work.
Solution ? i haven't got one, wish i did ! but beating someone up isn't it , dont get me wrong i'm not a bleeding heart liberal but doing something that doesn't work [ but makes us feel better ] is a waste of time,
I quite like that 3 strikes and you out rule from America.
Anyway rant over going bed now night night [ can't you tell ive had a drink watching the footie ]

voilence seems to work alright for the scum bag though who
mugs and hurts the innocent ::)
