Title: Thermadry
Post by: Carpet Genie on November 24, 2008, 11:58:07 pm
I've just picked up a thermadry sytem second hand and plan to use it on low profile carpets mainly. As it can also be used as a rotary scrubber on hard floors, I'm after some recommendations for the best pads to use for it for both purposes from people who've used this system or something similar.

Thanks in advance.

I saw the machine on ebay ???

Was going to have a bid on that :)

Speak to Craftex.

From my experience with Dry Fusion, the pads need to not only remove and retain soil, but they also need to be stable at the temperatures they are used at. Forget cotton pads, Charly Pads and possibly microfibre too.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I had a demo with the thermadry machine a couple of years back with jason from craftex, the pads we used were just the ordinary cotton bonnetts, we used catylist from craftex as a prespray and also microsplitters.

Hi
A couple of questions for Ken.

Just watched the dry fusion video.
It doesn't show what happens after the pad is dirty. Do you just keep on using
different pads or are they washed out for re - use, if so how.
Why are cotton pads no good?
Title: Re: Thermadry
Post by: Ken Wainwright on November 26, 2008, 10:24:42 am
Hi David

As with Texatherm and also some other pads and systems, the pads are single use then laundered.

As for cotton pads, they are very efficient at absorbing heat and retaining it. The heat doesn't pass so quick;y to the carpet.  With the Dry Fusion Turan fibre pads, they do not retain heat very well at all, so heat travels more quickly to the carpet.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Mike

Its worth investing in some more pads as you will use more than you will have prob.

I have about 40 in my van with me as you can never have enough.

A verry good tip also is dont wash them in your washing machine as it makes a hell of a mess with bits of fluff and dirt etc just take them to a launderete :)

Cheers clinton

with the bonnet attachment, would my rx20 do this job just as effectively? i'd just need to purchase the ringer and pads then.
2 birds, one stone, back of the net. i hope.

I've coma across quite a few who do that Derek, but IMO the RX is a more cumbersome machine than a standard rotary

Safe and happy padding :)

derek, i use my rx for bonnet cleaning when i have to, get the pad-driver and it's great, why would you not use it, you paid the money, use the machine, with the motor the rx has you won't burn that out in a hurry, use it all day no problems

Best bet Clinton,

if you have the space, buy an American Top Loading Washing Machine (best usually Whirlpool) It can launder up to 18+ pads at a time, and no grief off the missus for nap/fluff etc in her machine!

Ken

I didnt know their was a difference.
I think what Ken says here is very relevant.
If you have the Dry Fusion or the Texatherm you need the pads he suggests - Turan
If you use a Texatherm system or a "basic" rotary with pads then the cotton ones are fine.

John Gregory - I forgot to give you the Dry Fusion video cd when you took the machine.
Email me your address and I will send it you.

I just used the bonnet buff sometimes with warm prespray or you can also make up solution and put it in a wringer bucket but have never used that and just sprayed and buffed.

Got some nice commercial clients and have always used that method.

I've spoke to the seller a couple of times and he seems genuine enough. Machine is being picked up tomorrow so i'll soon find out.
Paying by Paypal so will get money back if dodgy.

Had a play with the Thermadry today - it works perfect - took a bit of a practice to stop it smashing into the skirting boards but eventually got the hang of it - it's a tidy bit of kit and certainly did a good job on my hallway carpet!!

I spoke to the fella who sold it and the reason he wasn't replying to the emails was because his business partner recently committed suicide so he had a lot on his plate to sort out.  Poor fella.

Gonna order a load of pads now for it.

Cheers for all the hints and tips fellas and thanks to you Joe for the CD.
