Title: aquatics ro systems
Post by: ccmids on November 24, 2008, 02:08:34 pm
is it true you can use RO systems from an aquatics store? a freind told me its the same thing and will be just as good as a w/c cleaning kit if not better,
so i looked on internet and they are identical. but cheaper.

They probably are cheaper...  BUT ....  the RO's typically sold by aquatic suppliers are usually no more than 100 gallons per day max output. They are used to top up fishtanks not supply a window cleaner with enough water. Small output would account for cheap prices. E.G. you can buy an RO for as little as about £30.00 from Ebay but it would be no good at all to a window cleaner. It would produce nowhere near enough water.

You can use them but they haves much higher reject ratio from what I remember. I keep fish and brought an ro for my tank about 4 years ago, it takes 6+ hours to make 30 liters and have a ratio of 1/5.

A better option for you is to buy a merlin.

That is the RATED output. You won't get anywhere near that out of it.

I wouldn't bother with anything less than a decent 200 GPD one.

either an ro or you will be using a great deal of resin, go for a 4040 and make life easy that way when or if you grow it is big enough to cope  ;)
