On 1st and 2nd cleans and if they get dirrty between cleans we always found the best way was to "Box the window"  Most of the residue etc is in the seals in DG units or right in the corners on single glazed stuff.

We would give the top edge of the window 3 or 4 good swipes side to side and then do each downward edge the same going up and down Then we would go back to the top.. another couple of swipes right across then work down the window with short up/down movements of say 18 inches or so and repeat until we got to the bottom. THis way you work the dirt down all the time. Then back up to the top and rinse right into the top edge side to side a coulpe of time then zig-zag all the way down.

Sounds like a lot of work but it isn't really and almost always got very good results even on well dirty 1st cleans.

"Maintenance cleans" were then easy with a quick couple of swipes across the top edge then zig-zag down quickly..  back up to the top ands rinse in the same way as we scrubbed.

I do almost the same as Andy - I couldn't have described it better.

I do think you need a rectangular brush, though (with a swivel connector).

I don't see how oval brushes can get into the corners properly.

Start top corner, across top twice then zig zag down, then rinse brush on from top down.
Dirty windows up and down then as above, no probs so far except them little dirt runs that appear when your not looking [ swines]
