Do you find that the spindle on the hosereel comes undone a bit when running hot,it seems to work it`s way lose a bit after a fair bit of use. Also it was a bit windy today and i found the flame blew out a few times, there is air vents at the side of the unit that let air in and cause this. The thing is could i cover these vents over to stop it or do they need to be there,by looking at it if these were covered slightly it would stop it blowing out.

What about putting a wind shield close to the vents but still allowing air to circulate

I fitted a roof vent in my van so I can operate the heater with the doors closed. The vents on the side of the heater are needed for air to get into the flame, but like Wayne said, put a shield close but not blocking the vents and it should help.
I never had problems with my hosereel,.. but I found loads of connectors came loose with the hot water. I spent the first day of working hot fixing leaks and tightening joints!
