Here we go again.
Friend i have not seen for years. ..." Hi, nice to see you, etc etc etc.. what job are you doing now.
Me ; " Working for myself, window cleaning.
Friend; Oh no , laughing... what are you doing really!!!.
Me; seriously thats what i do, and i love it.
Friend; oh really.. honestly?... how come you ended up doing that.
Me ;... what do you mean...? i love it and i will never do anything else.
EX!!! friend... well as long as you are happy..(eyes rolling)
It really annoys me...and before i even start to say anything, like its doing really well etc etc.... they always lose interest as they hear the word...window cleaner.
and you can see the thoughts swirling around in their heads.
Its as though i have been labelled and thats that.
Well i am proud of the round i am still building, and happy that i made a move into something i thoroughly enjoy.
There , its off my chest now. ;)

just think of them in a dead end job on minimum wage dude ;)

I've always liked being a window cleaner, no expectations from anyone else. Just go out there - do the job and go home.
It's only money anyway, what really counts is what you do with the rest of your life. :)

i love my job 95 to 99% of the time
my brother in law is a crane engineer who jacked his job a couple of weeks ago
well paid but long hours, lots of driving and stressful
in the end he could not stick it and just flipped (he has a second interview at a newer less stressful job on tuesday, lucky to get i too at the moment ::))
my brother is a motor insurance engineer for direct line,a regional supervisor no less
but direct line is owned by one of the banks thats in big crap and he is just waiting for his job to disappear :(
in the last month i have picked up about a dozen or so new jobs
on tues me and marcus was walking around a big factory in suits pricing it up and pretending to be businessmen ;D
it was great, regardless of whether we get it or not, it was two mates chancing their arm, trying to take the next step up
i love my job
balls to all the snides and the sneerers ;D ;D ;D
-
Have you built your whole round on handouts gazza!! ;D ;D
-
Too many people label others by the job they do but that only accounts for less than a third of their working time in their working life, not their personality ;D
-
Have you built your whole round on handouts gazza!! ;D ;D
hey .. you only give me a dozen calls.... and i bought a tiny few more off you. you cheeky monkey you....:)
my main large round is here in my town.... which was built through countless hours pounding the streets.
i will have you know!:)

I had this a couple of weeks ago, im a tiler by trade and i was on a job for a builder i do a lot of work for and there was a painter who keep saying i was a tiler no money in that job, you never make a living doing that, get a proper job like painting he kept on and on about it anyway a few days passed and a plumber came on site that i knew and we were all having lunch and the plumber said to me, your three properties you rent out need the boiler safety checks, so i said ok can you do them...with this the painter nearly choked on his sandwich and he never said another word to me ;D
-
;D So what? You are just a cleaner... oh! sorry a Specialist Cleaner... you clean windows, Just windows?... so your not even a real cleaner then! ::) ::) ::)
That's what an old friend said to me!
I just smiled, I don't talk to him, much now... He's a copper, I mean a real "Police Constable" :P
(In all fairness he is a nice fella!) ;)
-
It used to bother me what other people thought and their perception but window cleaning has bought me my house a nice car foreign holidays and other luxuries i work mostly the hours i want and take days off when i want with no one telling me about targets etc no stress in this job only have i got that window clean dont be bothered what others think just take care of you and yours and let them worry about where they stand on the social ladder

The more people with this attitude and the less competition there will be! Never paint w/c as a good earner to those (unless it's a very good friend) outside the trade is my motto!
-
Gaz your silence speaks volumes my friend ;)
I take it the Sandal guy didn't ring you :-\
-
I had a mate who is an estate agent, said that to me once.
Who,s laughing now!

couldn't give a monkies what anyone thinks of me,
When i chat to a custy they "ask how i'm doing etc".
i always reply "things could be better this credit crunch is really biting"
Afterall god gave us two eyes two ears and only one mouth and we should keep it buttoned at all times :-X. cos if everyone else knew what we earn they'd all be at it

That's good news, one less numpty that wont join us, going in too cheep & messing
it up for us. ;)
Too many start thinking it's easy money, go in a stupid prices then give up after a few month
leaving custy's with the thought we charge too much.
How many times has it been said to you, "but my last one only charged".
My answer is, " so where is he now".

Think he is the fool ! i have worked with a mate at times when work has been low on the ground ! he has neen running for around 20 odd years, and is always happy for a hand,he owns his own house drives a flash jap import car,and always has money in the bank, respect him as it`s flipping hard work at times, have been out in winter with him ,trying to blade off windows when it`s freezing ,and has turned to ice,not much fun ! I also don`t know how he manages to make 1 skrim last all day ! when i get through at least 3 ;D

window cleaning best job ever had
-
i love that people assume we scratch a living, nothing more satisfying than doing half the hours of average joe and complete freedom we enjoy.
-
let them think that. when people used to make simular comments to me I would laugh because theywere the ones working in a factory 40 hoursa week and hating every minute of it.
Where I live the biggest employer has gone bust about 2 weeks ago. Sinse then I have had 4 new "window Cleaners" flyiers through my door. I have had mates that used to take the mickey phone me up asking for a job. Others asking for work.
A chap in our street that used to shout things like " No work today mate, eh? or Rained off again, ha ha." as he walked his dog past our house. He set up a transport biz about a year ago. He has gone under now. Lorry gone, bike gone and house for sale. These are very hard times and worrying times for a lot of people. No-one knows how safe there job is. But working for yourself, doing the hours you want earning what you want / can. Alot of people would actually be rather jealous of us poor old window cleaners. Who cares if it is still seen as a skill less job. Its how you run your business that matters. You dont need to be a brain surgeon to clean glass but to keep your business going, and expanding takes a little skill IMO
