Title: Complicated
Post by: Martin-Swinscoe on November 20, 2008, 06:34:26 pm
Just had a phone call off a lady who was very distraught. She has got rid of me due to the lad who works for me passing some info onto a third party (alledgedly) who then i believe passed it onto the lady's child who then told Mom.
The last time we cleaned her property the lad saw something by mistake that he owned up to me about it. I told him to keep stum.

Now i've tackled the young man about it who has denied all knowledge of saying anything at all  to anyone (i don't believe him cos i haven't told a sole).
To be honest i'm very easy going and like to see the good in everyone.
Can't blame the lady at all for getting rid of me cos as a parent i'd hate to have my kids put into a similar position.

I've often told him what happens at work stays at work.

well to put it bluntly the lad is a good worker who has always turned up for work. i've had a few problems with him concerning his work in the past. But as time has gone by i really haven't had to pull him up for ages.

But this has really annoyed me...............
So i  think i'll just let it go. Cos he knows i ain't happy and i just hope he learns from it.

I guess it depends on how serious a problem this is going to cause you. If she is cancelling, will she get neighbours to cancel too? Are you going to get a bad reputation in the local area?  :-\

I would be tempted to let your employee know it is the last time you want any problems and that there are no more chances. Perhaps the temptation to "big himself up" in front of others was too much? Hopefully, he now realises the consequences of his actions.

make him go round to the woman an appologise, its the least he could do after placing the woman into a really difficult situation. He must have said something as he and you are the only ones who knew, am i right? if so how could a child/kid hear about it if it wasnt from you...

But yeah WHAT HAPPENED?!?

Too late now, you ahve lost the job so do tell.........pretty please :D

don't really want to say what happened not yet anyway.
i'd love to make him appologise but he reckons that he hasn't said anything. I was the only other person present at that moment. i  haven't even told my wife what happened. so it must be the lad who has spilt the beans or has told someone else .
Where we clean these windows its in a very small villiage, one where i was getting a fair bit of buisness from.
i'd hate to have my name been driven through the mud, because i've worked damn hard  getting what i've got now.....

With it being smallville that is probably what will happen if you dont deal with it now. Its only my opinion but i'd act fast!

Very well put Tomy and probably hit the nail on the head  ;)

If it is something of this nature DO NOT get the lad to go round and apologise, so far as the custy is concerned it'd be the worst thing that could happen, talk about rubbing salt into the water (excuse the pun). That'd be too insensitive.

I would give the lad another chance.
If the matter is really embarrassing, like you caught her in a compromising situation, she won't be telling many about it will she?
The lads young, probably couldn't resist telling his mate, and it's gone from there.
If I could clean windows as fast as gossip gets round my village, I would be a multi millionaire

Walk on ;) Life's complicated. Don't dwell on it and stay away from her. I can understand your worry about the rest of the village, but if she's going to tell them why she sacked you, you'll get to the bottom of it. Either she's cranky or your lad wants the boot. It's a win win situation ;D

I wouldn't often go down the letter route preferring to speak face to face, but on this one i would put pen to paper and grovel.
I'd tell her i understand her reason for cancelling, how sorry i am. The lad has been disciplined. And a bunch of flowers or summat delivered by the flower shop.
Then i would accept there isn't any going back to that 1 and move on.

Interesting situation for an employer though. I wonder how many if any have confidentiality clauses in their employment contracts?

Sounds embarrassing and not something you could easily talk about, but i would go round to see them and make sure you can settle things.

Even if they dont want you as a window cleaner anymore apologise and part on good terms
