Just as I was nearly home this evening I pressed the accelerator to get going, nothing. It was already on the floor. I stopped to have a look and the pedal is moving freely up and down but has no tension in it and nothing is being translated through to the engine. If it's not one thing it's another with this bloody van!!!!!
Any ideas anyone? 2000 Scudo by the way.

Sounds like the cable to me, had the same thing go on our scudo.

Must only be cable, cheap fix ;D

If you can start the engine, look under the bonnet and see where the accelerator cable meets the lever onto the injector housing, pull the lever and if the engine revs then it's the cable snapped or unhooked.

Cable, I snapped about 5 on different vehs. Just get a piece of rope attach it to the end of cable end inside the bonnet and pull it out through the grill, into driver window and control it by hand pull to get you to a mechanic.

Its the cable, happened to me once, the AA fixed a tempory one. It lasted at least until I got shot of it.

accelerator cables snap frequently if they have not been changed periodically, but it might be worth mentioning that with Diesel engines vibrating it can loosen the end piece of the cable and it simply pops out of the housing that attatches it to the injector housing.
Check it yourself.

I carry a spare accelerator cable. I was advised to by a friend who is a mecanic and runs a courier business. It was only about £30 with the vat from a local motor factors.

I can understand carrying a spare fan belt but not an accelerator cable. The chances of it breaking are slim. If you were a courier then theres more chance as they do loads of milage but the AA will fit a temprory one so it gets you where you want to go

Last month my fuel pump went and i was quoted prices like that and above for a new one so i looked through yellow pages and found a local diesel pump repair specialist and he sorted it for just over £300 and all done in a day worth looking around as he said most garages always put new pumps on when its not needed as they usually are a cheap and easy repair
