Title: What % increase next year?
Post by: Pj on November 19, 2008, 05:44:41 pm
Just a thought for all you sensible small businesses:

What do you plan to do next year in view of the economic turbulence?

A price increase?

What do you think?

Have to see how insurance is for next year.. both motor insurance and PLI. But it will only affect my lower end prices.

I have some as low as £6 for 2-3 bed semis.. i cant stand doing them. takes too long for so little. I dont want to drop them, but increase in the hope they drop me (or pay me more) :P

We wont know if were are are lowing or increasing work until next year.

At this moment in time we have been rather lucky in obtaining the work but thats because we have underpriced.

I say underpriced but if we are all honest, there has been such a big boom every company has almost doubled it prices in the last few years.

So I guess our prices are not really underpriced, they are now what is realistic in this pecuniary climate.

In one way I am pleased that we all now will have to pay assiduity to all of our working propriety.

Some and at times including myself have been beyond avaricious.

Some of us will either make it through this down turn or still try to too avaricious and fall. And the ones that fall, I will be pleased as it was just because of greed.

Alot of business that are over priced, do not understand why the customer thinks we are over priced. And when that happens that business should take a step back to reconsider.

I will be keeping my price's the same for the time being.

I raised a load early this year and with the way things are at the moment i think it would be better to keep things as they are.

No chance.
Wrong time to put prices up, even if they're overdue an increase.

I haven't lost any jobs yet, but their may be a few who are borderline.
Even a small increase could make up their minds.

Good!
The same goes for me only 10% though, for most (15-20% for worst!).
Everything goes up, I think we would look desperate if we didn't!

Anyhow my philosophy is this, If you put the prices 10% and you lose 10% of your round it still levels out, more money less customers... more canvassing! 8)

This is also a very good way of pruning the "Dead Wood" so to speak! ;)

Some people don't put their prices up for years... inflation means your working every year for less! :o

I have been putting most of my prices up, a minimum of 10%, ready for a hard winter. All new custies are paying the new price. No complaints so far.

Three @ £8.00 is better than one @ £12.00, my price's will stay the same for some time now. I'm now picking up the houses "next door" to the houses i already clean by keeping prices down, If your already there cleaning , clean the next one as well.

I only put a few up this year.  They were the ones that were priced so low that I wouldn't miss them if they cancelled because of the increase.
As for next year, I will wait and see.  The problem is that new work is being priced at good rates.  Window cleaning must be the only business where new customers get a more expensive deal than existing customers.

Quote all your new customers at a decent price before you take on anymore and increase the price of your lowest work that you can afford to lose if you've become the busy fool. Can't take your money with you when it's over and a social life outside work keeps the morale high :)

I agree with this - I did a price rise in July/Aug for some when fuel went up and inflation was peaking. I think by the spring fuel will not go any higher and the forecast is dropping inflation so generally no increases except as Shiner says, for new custy's it'll be a bit more than their existing custy neighbours.

I have one area which is underpriced - by my standards - 2/3 bed semi's at £6/7, small bungalows @ £5. (Goes back to my ladder days five years ago) But as new ones come on I've been charging £10 for the houses and I make an exception to my £10 minimum "rule" for the bungalows at £7. But I have a lot of them in each road - compact work see?

Because I'm not driving more than a hundred yards between hose runs the daily rate is as good as some of my other domestic, but I work harder as I don't get the occasional 5/10 minute rest as I drive to a different area.

So... although things are ok now I'll wait 'til spring before considering making any blanket price changes.
