Title: Best Pole For GutterVac?
Post by: airways on November 17, 2008, 05:31:10 pm
Hi All,

I need a new pole for my guttervac system.
Do you think that I could use a modular fishing pole or a flag pole?
Can anybody recommend a suiteable pole?
I know that some people have used the bottom sections of an SL2.
Also I want to change my vac hose from 38mm to 51mm. Does anybody know where I can get a 38mm to 51mm inlet adapter for my vac. Its the popular 1200w x 3 motors model that most people use.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What happened to your old pole?

It was damaged beyond repair.
I was thinking of using some 2 inch gutter downpipes if I cant find a better alternative.
But I would prefer some type of modular fishing pole (because of the weight) if possible.

Two options really - buy the proper pole from omnipole or purchase S2 sections from Gardiners and make your own. Gutter pipe will be very bendy once you go higher. Can't believe you destroyed a powerpole? Pretty sure the early Guttervacs used the pole to support the vacuum pipe whereas the latest ones incorperate the pole as a vacuum pipe.

Are there any modular fishing poles similar in size to the SL2 sections?

Fishing poles taper to the top. The S2 sections are parallel because you are only using the base sections. You might find a supplier of fishing pole base sections but they won't be as strong.

What diameter & length are the SL2 base sections?

I think they are five foot seven long with a diameter of just over 44mm but not sure off the top of my head.  ;)

I have been looking on fleabay & you can buy 2 inch lightweight aluminium tubing. I think that this will be ideal.

I am going to try to make my own vac pole.
I am looking for 2 sections each of the spec. below to make a 24 foot pole.
I will let you know how I get on.

51mm x 2 metres x 2 sections
48mm x 2 metres x 2 sections
