Title: new rules and regs for next year?
Post by: johnny_h on November 14, 2008, 04:51:03 pm
a customer told me he's heard that if you have a ro system in the house there are new laws coming out that you will have to feed it off of a header tank and have a booster pump fitted !! has anyone heard of this? guess if it does come in we'll have to have water meters fitted too

Its been in the water supply regulations for years that you cannot connect a pump drawing more than 12ltrs per minute directly from a mains supply, so apart from the water meter part the rules you mention are already in place and have been since 1999 I think ;)

That is 720 litres per hour, would be hell of an RO to need that rate of supply!

Don't forget to include your waste in the calculation a pumped 4040 would be getting near it.

I think the waste ratio with 4040 RO is around 50%. You would do well to produce over 100 litres pure water per hour so max demand is around 200 litres or so per hour.
My pumped RO unit goes through about 250 litres per hour (a light industrial unit) and I would think few use more unless you need to produce thousands of litres a day.
