For those that do work for Councils could you please help us out for a consultation I am working on.
There are various requirements required in Scotland with regards to Insurance required in Scotland. It can range from £1m to £6m but I cannot see how some Councils justify you having £6m to clean windows. I do know the reason behind some of them but feel it is unjust.
Could you please let me know what is the required Insurance limit in England and Wales for those who work with Councils.
Thanks

Unjust or not they wont change.

Unjust because one tradesman burnt a building down so went up from £1m to £6m. The scope for that should have been trades that are risk should be insured at £6m the rest £1m.
The risk having a blow torch, etc...

Most of the Tenders that are about now require you to have a minimum of £5 million of cover.

We have just had to have 10m on both employers and public
Crazy for a window cleaning contractor
but to keep the job we had to sort it

I asked a mates dad who works for local council as someone who gets in contractors (unfortunately not for WC) and he said £5 mill minimum before they even look at you, they also want book for 2 years, evidence of you being legit and reliable basically so that you wont let them down once you are given the job, quite a laborious process, but once you get in with them at least you know you will get what you asked for and the work will always be there....
