Title: NI contributions
Post by: ftp on October 29, 2008, 07:44:35 pm
Anyone understand them? I pay class 2 about £2.80 a week - yippee! But, i also have to pay class 4 on my tax return  ??? I used to be employed so it's a bit double dutch to me.

If you're self-employed

    * you pay 'Class 2' NICs at a flat rate weekly amount of £2.30
    * you also pay 'Class 4' NICs as a percentage of your taxable profits - you pay eight per cent on annual taxable profits between £5,435 and £40,040 and one per cent on any taxable profit over that amount

off the direct.gov.uk website :)

Yes i have an accountant it's just something i didn't spot when she went through my tax return. She is so thorough that i tend to get lost at times with the jargon and speed she works, so i sit there and nod my head then forget most of it when i walk out her front door.  ::)
