You've been reading my tag line!
NEver refuse to move something but there are ways of getting the client to fall in line with what you want to do. For example I never refuse to move the bureau loaded with glass and china. I simply say "certainly madam, you empty it and I'll move it" I've never yet had a customer whose not then agreed to leave it where it is.
Actually that 's not exactly true. One lady insisted on shunting itself, fully laden to prove how incompetent I was. there was a shunt from her....the sound of glass on the move....a moments silence....then the sound of glassware breaking as it fell off the internal shelf :o :o
She turned to me and said "Don't say a word. It was my idea! and my fault :) Phew :D
Other responses include references to midgets and limbo dancers and the queen! IN all cases I never move sideboards etc if unpractical. (Often you can get underneath them anyway!
ANd I've lost count of the number of times people say not to go behind the TV because they are afraid that a connection will be lost and they won't be able to work out which cable goes into which socket! Far be it for me to try and persuade them otherwise. :)

I normally ask the customer to remove as much as possible in terms of smaller items. I never ask them to remove the 3-pc suite or dining table as I can move these around easily. I tell them that if they want the big cabinets moving from around the edges they'll have to empty them all, otherwise I'll clean round them. I don't have to move many cabinets :)
I find quite a lot of customers will clear out rooms very well, but there are a few like the one I did last week where she hadn't touched anything. Cheeky cow also paid me £97.76 in mostly pound coins and nothing bigger than a fiver!! Right down to the last penny too! You'd round it up to a ton paying cash wouldn't you ::)

i always ask before i quote, avoids disputes after

I love the ones where they've moved the wardrobes or big chest of drawers about 6 inches away from the wall expecting me to move it the rest of the way out! I just push them back in. It's never dirty under the big heavy items anyway as nothing gets underneath them.
Like the others i don't touch the entertainment units - it took me ages to sort my own telly out - don't fancy spending half a day setting someone elses up!
I'm happy to move suites and tables but that's as far as it goes. As for small nick nacks - thats definately down to the customer to move.
