What does,?
its forecast bitter cold next week, lets have some serious suggestions of waterproof and warm gloves that work please...
there are so many people who swear by some, then someone comes on and says they are useless,
there must be a glove out there we can all use. ;D ;D
-
i've spent loads on gloves including 2 different types of sealskinz, all lasted about a week or so until the right thumb part strating wearing.
If you find any that last, please let me know!!!!! ;)

There are over a dozen different models of sealskins on the above link. I have only used the standard ones that others on here have probably used and although they are good they do not last long. Maybe some of the others maybe more durable ?

ive been using these gloves, there very grippy, easy to put on and relatively water proof, and actually quite warm. but there only a temporary measure until I find something better
-
oh and they last REALLY well
-

I like the look of the kevlar lined goretex motorcycle gloves, finished in leather. You can also get ex army gortex lined tactical gloves on ebay

Anyone tried mixing gloves ? ie when cold workman gloves with a liner. When wet waterproof gloves over workman gloves. when cold & wet all three. for sizing just buy different sizes liner small workman med waterproof large ?
Main thing with gloves as with anything use one pair all the time and they'll soon wear out, have a pair for each day and they'll last 10 times longer.

They look very similiar to the ones I have. I'd say theyre as good as theyre gonna get. Not entirely waterproof, but hey, better with the pole than a ladder.

check these too:

try the artic gloves from strauss-direct
fantastic
-
what ones suitable for trad?
-
What about the ones Gardiner Pole systems sell?
-
Bought a pair of Grey thermal fleece gloves from the "Tchibo" rack at my local "Somerfields" last week for £5-90.
Got 'em for the cold really, and for general [not work], use, but when I looked at the label, at home, it said that they were also waterproof.
Tried them Wednesday and yesterday, whilst using the pole round the back of some houses that were in the shade.
Very warm, but it wasn't the worst of the weather, of course, they are not waterproof, but they seem to let in such a small amount of water, that it warmed up inside the glove, like a diving suit.
They also have a toughened patch on the palms, although I think that's for when you're driving.
See how they go when it get's colder and rougher.

Gazza, these are Police standard, they wear them before getting involved with baddies!!!
-
Go onto the sealskinz website, the glove you want is the winter glove don`t confuse it with the winter mitten.
-
i know... :).... but i thought if they are slash proof.... wont wear out as quick... and warm, flexible and water proof....
i have to try them ;)
-
at least i wont get splinters ;D
-
That glove ie the winter glove is THE glove for WFP,i`ve tried them all.
-
its the inner layer thats slash proof, but the leather outside is very good too!

looks too big, i need to be able to control an ipod too!!
-
There not to big in the flesh, there the perfect glove don`t waste your time on others.Out of all the sealskinz range and other brands these win hands down for warmth and being waterproof.
-
im tempted to try them on your recommendation
-
Me too, very tempted, mind you I don't have any gloves at the moment apart from some trad Unger gloves, haven't had to use gloves yet, but I think the Ungers would fall apart.
£25 is not too bad if they last long, warm and waterproof, that's pretty good. :)
-
Showa insulated.
I bought 2 pairs a few weeks ago (I use wfp) and have tried them on cold early morning starts. They are the best gloves I have tried so far. I have tried Unger, neoprene fishing gloves, skiing gloves and Sealskins mits. If you put damp hands into them, or any other gloves, you start to feel the cold, so buy a couple of pairs.
I found these to be the cheapest H ttps://www.hygienesuppliesdirect.com/products/prod120410.

good selection here ;D

thermal star are very good, i had a pair they lasted 3 winters ;D
also the glacier is pretty good :)
the c skins are exellent , i have never had cold hands with any of gloves here
-
I use a pair of gortex gloves which are lined. A little bulky but strong and defo water proof.
As I used to do a lot of mountaineering so thought I would dig them out for a try.
Worked well last winter....and warm
-
No problem with unger, had them 2 years!!!
-
No problem with unger, had them 2 years!!!
Depends on what you use them for, traditional they are good yes (not the new one, but the old neoprene one) if you use them for wfp, I don't think they would last a day. :)

i have used yes the old neoprene for trad and wfp many times and they are good, your hands get so warm you need to take them off after an hour, granted its not so cold in this country that you need them regularly!!
-
Great, I do have a pair of those actually, I should try them out for wfp when it gets cold. :)
Yea, your hands get VERY hot actually, when I was trad, I did have to take them off a couple of times, very weird sensation.
-
sealskinz ultra tough make sure they are xtra tight these do work, just sold to bob ;)
-
Those ones are rubbish.
-
not being funny but if you let your hands harden to the conditions they will cope. why gloves
-
sorry but I have had windburn twice now and never ever again.
sealskinz same as ones above do me fine
-
Those ones are rubbish.
tell me have you worn a par of these, not rubbish at all.extra tough for rips ect and waterproof.
-
Those ones are rubbish.
agreed i have a pair and used them last winter - cold and wet hands - no good!
-
Its true what others have said about allowing your hands to harden to the conditions.
Ive worked outside all my life, including farming in Denmark, where it went as low as -28°C. Now Im not saying I worked out in that but when temps get that cold you do at some time work out in temps much lower than you ever going to experience here.
If it is cold I go through what I call the burn, where your hands become painfully painfully cold, almost like SOmeone is hitting them with a hammer, then afterwards carrying an aluminium ladder with wet hands seems all of a sudden like a holiday.
If you molly-coddle your hands how are they going to get used to being wet and working in cold conditions?
-
So your saying we need to harden up, and stop being softies? ;D
I don't know about you, but when I'm 60 I still want to have reasonably healthy looking hands, and somehow I don't see that working with hardening up your hands.
btw, you can go past the pain treshold, but then when they get warm again, all of the sudden you start noticing the cracks, not pleasant, you can't really stop your hands from getting dehydrated unless you properly protect them.
Next thing you say is that hand cream is for women only.
-
ok so what ones for trad then?
i cany be buying all of them ???

The Unger neoprenes are reasonably good.
www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk/shop/index.php/Workwear/Unger-Neoprene-Gloves/Detailed-product-flyer.html (http://www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk/shop/index.php/Workwear/Unger-Neoprene-Gloves/Detailed-product-flyer.html)
The ergotech Unger's are pretty terrible, they didn't last long at all. I always wring out the applicator between thumb and forefinger, the gloves did not like that, they were ruined two days later! The original Ungers last longer, for a winter or so.
-
we can all have harden hands, but when realing in your hose throw dog mess and pi..s.bo you realy want that allover your hands, after 20 years you still carnt stop the cracks in fingers, and it wont stop the cold.the unger ones one hole in then water gets through no good
-
I always use a cloth soaked in anti bacterial spray when reeling my hose in.
Yea, agreed, one hole and your done, but they seem quite comfy those Ungers, never tried any others tho, maybe they are more durable.
-
ungers 2007 new ones, just looked says less likely to get holes in,anyone tried them, they look ok
-

Dreadful, they were falling apart after two days.
(That was trad btw)
-
So your saying we need to harden up, and stop being softies? ;D
Yes
Next thing you say is that hand cream is for women only.
Not IMO, but I guess your obviously the guy to ask ;D ;D ;D
-
These are the ones I use all year round,
www.safeandwarm.co.uk/pages/proddetailnogroup.asp?productid=26040022&group=P&gclid=COTgquOvxZYCFQ2Y1QodZSPmyg
I buy 10 pairs at a time, they are waterproof with a flock lining and are Ok for trad or WFP.
I always have at least 3 pairs on the go, if you leave them on your van dash board, the windscreen demister warms them up nicely. At under £3 a pair they won't break the bank.
